Title: Politics and News
Description: around the world

This may have already been a thread but I looked through these topics and couldn't find one like this.
Basically I wanted to put this here instead of Bakaland because I find our world politics and news affect us all. I'm not someone who adores politics or anything but I don't catch up with world news as much as I should.
Perhaps if we could date the event/news, we can keep better track of discussions. It's just a thread to express your views and opinions.

I'll start as I'm making the thread.

5th Nov 06:
Saddam Hussein is sentenced to death by hanging.

I have always had a very strong opinion of hanging which is i think it's one of the worst forms of death ever. I get very weirded out by it and I find it plain disgusting. However Saddam Hussein had it coming (so to speak). Can't say I'm happy or not about the death sentence it because it's death of a human being yet he destroyed lives and did horrific things in his life. I see the good in his death for humanity.
I'm glad he got the guilty verdict, of course!! So what happens now though? I heard something about an appeal?
I hope we can all discuss this matter as it's the most recent world news I know about.

I heard that Saddam Hussein can make an appeal for the next 30 days, and if it isn't given to him, he will be hung within' the following 30 days. I wonder why this took so dang long. I know that everyone gets a fair trial, but if the world has seen what he has done within' the last 15 years, this trial should have been lightning fast!

I also belive this:
Will Saddam affect vote??

This HAS to be the November surprise that the Republicans had in mind to help sway last minute votes. It's a strategy the the Republicans, heck, any dominant party in office, uses on the weekend before the election. I belive, with this verdict, it will remind some people about something positive about the war and sway some votes. Also, the Republicans may not lose the House of Representatives because of this. The Senate was already out of reach for the Democrats, but the House seemed reachable, but this tape might have saved the House.
In 2004, the November Surprise was the release of a Bin Lauden tape reminding people about the War of Terror. This is true, because if you remember correctly, Kerry was actually leading the polls coming into the final weekend, and how else could he have lost it within the last two days??????? I rest my case!

I can rant and complain about this a bunch like the comedian Lewis Black, but I'd be kicked out of the message board, ASAP, lol! :P
