ok- advanced lesson: tempo VS options
tempo: your ability to control the SPEED of the game. (normally done with monsters)
options: represented by card advantage
now, as you probably know- this format (more than ANY other so far) is based upon tempo. how many games do you lose while +3 on your opponent? TOO MANY.
lesson? control the tempo- control the game. normally, controlling the tempo in this format leads to opponents being forced to overextend their options, leading toward card advantage.
now, there are various ways to get control over the tempo.
the most popular is use of monsters that just FORCE it.
- chaos sorcerer
- zaborg
- cyber dragon
personally- i'm sick and tired of zaborg. i've opened FAR too many games with 2 of him in my opening hand. i've just recently stopped using him.
what i decided to do was overload on creature removal. the blessed 1-1 trades that havent seen much play this format.
actually- if you pay close attention, the top events are usually won by people running massive removal. (looking at our national champion. he ran 2 smashing, 2 sakuretsu, and 1 bottomless.)
this helps you clear the field in a very CONSISTENT manner, but not in a way as dramatic as dropping your zaborg.
if you can control the tempo of the game, you will almost certainly gain the upper hand. the only option left is
A- perfect topdeckes.
B- your opponent's "trump card." (looking at you return from the different dimension and cyber stein.)
so, while dueling, keep in mind the fact that tempo is VERY key in the format. don't overlook it while striving for card advantage. ^_^
Your right Tempo is important now your thoughts on getting tired or Zaborg well.............. I disagree Zaborg is such Control and when using Frog and Will you can get real good advantage.
Tempo is ok, except for when you're running certain decks in which you don't need monsters as badly, ie my friend vincent tundo's deck, or cyber stien otk. Monsters would help to win in cyber stein (and often I have 2-3 on the field at once.) but you don't neccessarily want to attack until you get the right cards ie giant trunade, cyber stien, and limiter removal/and or megamorph.
