Title: Logic or Luck?

Lord_of_Thunder - April 23, 2006 06:07 AM (GMT)
When it comes to the game of yu-gi-oh, do you believe in Logic, meaning that you know whether or not you'll get the card you need by process of elmination and probability, or Luck, meaning you lay back and hope you get the card you need?

Both.

I personally go for logic, because I am a math freak. I sometimes depend on luck though.

Both.

I'm with TB, I'm not the best math person out there... I have been using Luck more then Logic lately. Then me and ronintalken had a little talk, Then I found out Logic is way better then luck.. But I still use luck somethimes, I would have to say both. Even though i use Logic more then Luck.

I'm lazy so I go for Luck XD I don't duel much but when I do it's mostly about luck for me since I barely know all the cards i have XD

ronintalken - April 23, 2006 04:18 PM (GMT)
its all about skill.

deckmaking, conserving resources, and smart play is WAY more important than luck. :)

Topdecker - April 23, 2006 04:27 PM (GMT)
^ That is true but if you look at Top 8 decks lately they all have the same decks with 3-4 different cards, I think it takes skill and you have to be lucksacking like crazy.

ronintalken - April 23, 2006 05:01 PM (GMT)
- not really... have you not seen the shonen jump top 8 decks???
- those decks arent that good anyway... lol...
- decklists arent everything. playing smart is more important. for example... greg copied my EXACT decklist and went 4-4 at regionals, i went 7-1. lolz.

I knew what I was going to draw one time, because I had two acient gear beats, soilders, and golems in the gravyard, and 20 cards in my deck. I needed either one to win (He only had 100 LP and I had ancient gear castle out), so I drew that card (forgot what its called) that let's you normal summon the card you just drew if you guessed it right, and I guessed through probability what I would draw, and I said ancient gear golem and was right so I won. That doesn't sound too impressive the way I am wording it, but it was! Yay for algebra 1 in 8th grade!

ffrrt - April 24, 2006 02:41 AM (GMT)
luck

ronintalken - April 24, 2006 02:50 AM (GMT)
lol- no- it really does happen like that alot. and its not just when you make play decisions and when you make decks. :)

Touzokuou Bakura - April 25, 2006 12:45 PM (GMT)
I hate it when I have a good deck, but can't get the right cards when I draw. Luck does matter to some point, though yeah, "process of elmination and probability" are also important...

Lord_of_Thunder - April 25, 2006 10:53 PM (GMT)
Okay you copied and pasted that "process of elimination and probability"

ronintalken - April 25, 2006 11:48 PM (GMT)
"cant get the right cards when i draw"? huh? lol. i cant think of a time ive EVER done that, lol.

basically- if i draw a bad hand, it is my fault. my deck isnt consistent enough.

therefore- it's a flaw in deckbuilding.

manily logic(also good at math, but hate it), but luck sometimes.

Both are what you need to win.

Luck means faith that what will happen will happen at the right time (Ex. I need a Sangan when my opponent has Heavy hitters and I need some defense) and if that means laying faith on drawing 1 or 2 specific cards, then so be it. 1:45 I get a Sangan. 2: 45 I get a Dark Magician.
1.74 x 10 to the minus fifth
45
I get out my Paladin or Flare Knight. But can always happen.

Logic means to have faith in numbers and only numbers. Which is always a huge asset in a duel (I near lost a duel today because I didn't have enough LP to activate Diffusion Wave Motion.) But when it comes to numbers, I let the cards speak for themselves. If I need to go with the odds, I hope for a Spell that can turn the tides which is roughly 11/45 in my deck.

Both are nessesary because that large one will hardly ever come up but Luck makes it and the odds have to be more for you for something like that to happen.

ronintalken - April 26, 2006 02:14 AM (GMT)
well- having 2 dark magician in your deck BEGS to be drawn at a bad time. so if you topdeck the dm, then it should be expected. that really isnt luck, thats just common sense when making a deck.

thats what i mean. when making a deck, you have to think about those necessities. you shouldnt be in need of JUST the right card. you should be able to work with what you have. that's what constitutes a consistent deck.

:)

Dueling_God - April 26, 2006 03:53 AM (GMT)
ya but even with the best deck you can get crap...

like ppl that netdeck return decks wut if they got a hand like...

rfadd x2
chaos s. x3
poA (not sure if they run this)

i mean sure the rfadd deck isnt stable at all but it wins all the time right? Same goes for cookie cutter. I agree with you totaly ronin even though i just stated an argument against you seeing as how im probably the most unlucky person in San Jose, i depend and rely on skill to help me win as im sure you do also (along with the build of the deck) :afro

Yeah, I did.
