Hey I need some rulings on bringing special summon only monsters back from the graveyard.
I lost a match recently because my opponent brought back chaos sorceror with premature burial. He'd summoned it successfully before & I had destroyed it with smashing ground. Then he played premature burial to bring it back. I claimed the move was illegal but the judge (not qualified btw) ruled against me.
According to the text of chaos sorceror it states the card can only be special summoned by removing 1 light/1 dark so how the hell can it be brought back from the graveyard (with a card that states "this counts as a special summon")? I checked yugioh card.com & they contradict themselves on this issue.
If a Special Summon-only monster was Summoned properly, it can be Special Summoned from the Graveyard or removed from play pile. However, Nomi monsters (containing the text "This card cannot be Special Summoned except by...") cannot be Special Summoned in any way other than the listed manner.
In short, yes, once "Chaos Sorcerer" is Special Summoned properly, it can be revived with "Premature Burial".
This is covered on Upper Deck's Advanced Gameplay FAQ.
Yeah I read the faq, it refered to some monsters as examples but that was all.
By the way:
This monster can be only be special summoned by "yaadda yaada X" precludes any possibility of it being special summoned in any other way. That's just simple logic & basic use of the English language. And yeah I'm not blaming you for that. UDE are wankers. If you have any kind of judge conference maybe you could point out to UDE that they really need to get their act together over their god awful misuse of the language & casual discarding of logic in favour of inane & arbitrary rulings.
Meh. It's mostly Konami's fault. They care more about how the text sounds than how it works.
The "Dark Necrofear" example is the one I was referring to:
"If a Special Summon-only monster is successfully Special Summoned to the field, using the proper method, and is then sent from the field to the Graveyard, you may use "Monster Reborn", etc. to revive the monster back to the field, and you do not have to use the proper method again. (For example, if you Special Summon "Aqua Spirit" by removing 1 WATER monster in your Graveyard from play, and "Aqua Spirit" is then destroyed and sent to your Graveyard, you may use "Monster Reborn" on "Aqua Spirit" without having to remove another WATER monster in your Graveyard from play.)"
