Title: Monster Gate/Reasoning vs. Ancient Gears
Description: What would happen?
SynjoDeonecros - July 25, 2005 09:34 PM (GMT)
Okay, now I know that the Ancient Gear Monsters (and any monster that says they can't be Special Summoned, period), won't be summoned by Monster Gate or Reasoning if drawn, but what would happen to it? It's a monster that can be Normal Summoned, so it fulfills the requirements for those cards. But what happens to it? Does it remain in my hand, or sent to the graveyard? And, since it's a monster that fulfills the requirements for Monster Gate/Reasoning, do I continue to draw, or does their effect disappear, right then?

The effect of "Reasoning"/"Monster Gate" ends, and "Ancient Gear Golem" (etc.) will be sent to the Graveyard.

Actually it is quite valid, because it can be Normal Summoned. Just like a Spirit Monster though (see the rulings regarding Spirit Monsters), if a monster that can't be Special Summoned is picked up, it is sent to the Graveyard and "Reasoning"/"Monster Gate"'s effect ends.

Geez wherever I go, your a Mod.
Anyways, I'll break down "Monster Gate" first.
- If "Ancient Gear Golem" is picked up with the effect of "Monster Gate", it is sent to the Graveyard (not discarded) and you continue to pick up cards until you pick a monster that fulfills the condition of "Monster Gate". This same ruling applies to Spirit Monsters.
I won't into details about the other rulings since your worried about only "Ancient Gear Golem". Now for "Reasoning".
- If at any point you pick up a monster with the condition of "This monster can only be Special Summoned....." or "This monster cannon be Special Summoned.", then all cards, including the monster, is sent to the Graveyard, and "Reasoning" resolves (not disappear).
This is good practice for my Level 1 Judge Test. Hope this clears up the misunderstanding.

Actually, as the ruling stands, if you pick up a Spirit Monster the effect of "Reasoning"/"Monster Gate" ends and everything picked up is sent to the Graveyard. >_>

Well it does say "If you pick up a Spirit Monster, you cannot Special Summon it and it is sent to the Graveyard.".
I just couldn't find where it says the effect ends for "Monster Gate". I know it ends for "Reasoning". It just say the monster is sent to the Graveyard.

These are the official rulings.
Pick up cards until you pick up a monster that can be Normal Summoned.
You can Special Summon a high-level monster like "Dark Magician" with "Reasoning", but not Special Summon-only monsters like "Gate Guardian", Ritual Monsters, etc.
If you pick up a Spirit Monster, then all picked up cards are sent to the Graveyard.
If no monster is picked up, shuffle your Deck and put it back in the Deck Zone; the effect of "Reasoning" disappears.
You cannot activate "Reasoning" if you already activated "Scapegoat" this turn.
If "Banisher of the Light" is Special Summoned with "Reasoning", the other cards picked up for "Reasoning" are sent to the Graveyard. The effect of "Banisher of the Light" is not applied until after "Reasoning" resolves.

Gah I knew that!!!
I interpreted the statement wronng. Ok sorry, about the mix-up. Guess I'll just stick to Deck Building.
