if i my opponet actvates gracful chairty and i actvate null and void dont they discard the 3 cards they drew plus discard 2 cards for gracful

I think so. I don't see why not. You may want to wait for Tyrin though.

Burning Soler flare - July 18, 2005 06:25 AM (GMT)
i dont see why not it does not negate gracful and he done the first part he drew 3 cards so he should discard 2 because gracful was never negated or inter rupted becuase the card alowed them to draw just when they drawed the cards were discarded but since they drew for gracful they should have to also have to discard

Drizzt Do'Urden - July 18, 2005 06:26 AM (GMT)
Well if I had to give you an answer now, it would be yes, they must discard because although they discard from graceful, its side-effect still goes off.

Chain resolves in reverse order:

"Null and Void" discards the three cards that were drawn.
"Graceful Charity" requires two more cards to be discarded.

I couldn't have said it better, Tyrin Claw. Null and Void is a very lethal card, especially when timed perfectly, such as when chained to Graceful Charity.

Lusterknight - July 18, 2005 05:04 PM (GMT)
I wouldn't call it "lethal". It is way too situational, especially since the only Drawing Cards most CC decks use are Pot of Greed and Graceful Charity.

monolith_xyber - July 18, 2005 05:06 PM (GMT)
You couldn't have said it better huh? Well I could.

You're wrong bub.

And it ain't just me that says so. Check the rules kids.

Rulings (netrep)

1. You can only chain "Null and Void" to an effect that draws cards and does nothing else. You can chain "Null and Void" to the activation of "Pot of Greed" or "Jar of Greed". You can chain "Null and Void" to the activation of the effect of cards like "Airknight Parshath".

2. You can chain "Null and Void" to a Continuous Spell or Trap Card that causes drawing, such as "Mirage of Nightmare" or "Heart of the Underdog".

3. You cannot chain "Null and Void" to "Disturbance Strategy", "Graceful Charity", "Card Destruction", "Morphing Jar", "Mind Wipe", "Dragged Down into the Grave", or "Reload".

4. You can activate "Null and Void" during the Damage Step, for example against the effects of "Airknight Parshath", "Sasuke Samurai #3" or "Bistro Butcher".

5. The card(s) discarded by the effect of "Null and Void" are never treated as actually drawn, so they are considered sent from the Deck to the Graveyard.

6. You can chain "Null and Void" to "Reckless Greed". Since you cannot draw by the effect of "Reckless Greed", the effect of skipping 2 Draw Phases is NOT applied.

7. You can chain "Null and Void" to the effect of "Royal Magical Library".

8. You cannot chain "Null and Void" to the effect of "Appropriate" because the effect of "Appropriate" cannot be chained to.

9. [Re: Card of Sanctity] You can chain "Null and Void" to "Card of Sanctity".

darkdragon_19 - July 18, 2005 05:15 PM (GMT)
Ok then, what is the reasoning on why Null and Void CAN be chained to Pot of Greed and CANNOT be chained to Graceful Charity? Where is the line drawn?

monolith_xyber - July 18, 2005 05:33 PM (GMT)
Did ya look at rule 1 mate?

"draws card & nothing else"

there's your line.

Tyrin Claw - July 18, 2005 08:09 PM (GMT)
Oh, I'm sorry. I had just woken up when I posted that. -_-'

monolith_xyber - July 18, 2005 11:10 PM (GMT)
No worries. We had some guy at the local tourney try to use this card with disturbance strategy for a discard deck. So I made a point to get the rulings on it.
