Title: MAGICAL MARIONETTE
Description: SPELL COUNTERS?

could someone please tell me what the term "spell counter" means in his effect. i thought it was just a token or coin placed to keep track of how many spell cards have been played. i don't have the card in front of me but it reads something like," each time you or opponent plays a spell card, place one SPELL COUNTER on this card. this monster's attack increases by 200 points for each SPELL COUNTER. also, you can remove two spell counters from this card to destroy one monster on the field" i played this and my opponent tried saying there were spell counter cards, much like a trap counter card, and they had to be placed somewhat like an equip spell card on the magical marionette top increase his attack. i thouroughly looked through the book and couldn't find any mention of a SPELL COUNTER card. right. he's been playing for a lot longer than i have but if i can't find what he's saying in the rule book why should i go by his version

He was wrong. Spell Counters are merely objects used to keep track of a number. You can use anything as Spell Counters, as long as you can count them.
