Title: Plague bearers from bloodletters
Skip - January 16, 2011 09:49 PM (GMT)
Hey guys!
A couple of days ago I asked how to get cheap plague bearers. Well, bloodletters was the answer. So I bought some and started converting. Chopped of the long part of the head and the horns. Sculpted the eye and some bad skin from green stuff and added one horn. Here the result:

He's the standart bearer, so the left arm is in work. I also found a good solution to save even more money, so stay tuned!

Very nice conversion and paint job. I was just waiting to see some kind of green bubbling muck instead of lava at the base. It would have given nice poisonous touch to the unit. I am looking forward on seeing whole regiment ready. How long did it take to convert one model?

Thank you guys!
@LAV-Kitsune
My whole daemon army stands on lava, so no exception for my PBs :D
It took not much time to convert it. I would say 1h for the whole miniature, maybe faster.
Anyone interessted in a tutorial?

I'm pretty sure that there would be many people intrested on seeing tutorial, as Plaguebearer models themselves are really expensive, but good in game.

Seeing 5 of them together almost makes them seem like official models from GW. Sure there is some points where more accurate green stuff modelling could be done, but overall the unit looks great and not much of Khorne models anymore. Great job indeed.

So now, as promised, a small tutorial about making plague bearers from bloodletters.
First I glue the legs to the torso and add a big fat paunch from green stuff

Next comes the spine, made from a green stuff sausage, which is formed with a knive to form the sections, and a pen to form the hollows/cavaties? from the top
and both sides

Now comes the head. I cut the half of it and round up the end. Now it looks like a stealer head. I add a ball of green stuff to the face and with the pen I form an oval eye with a tiny bit of GS to form the pupill

Now I add the horn, made of the original blood letter horns

After that, add some ugly skin irritations and you are finished
:D

Very nice indeed and thanks for the tutorial! I am sure that it will be helpful to many =)

I don't know how I missed this, but those look great! So good in fact, I may get over my fear of greenstuff and give this a try.
How did you paint them? It looks like you primed white and used green and brown washes.

wow really great I'm not a huge fan of the unit filler but love the rest of the work

Wow... Those are some amazing conversions! And the paint job is equally as amazing!! I'm in the same boat as squalie - I FEAR the use of green-stuff (mostly because I'm about as creative as a log) but I may have to give this a go as it'd be a lot cheaper than buying metal bearers. Great tutorial!

Man, thank you guys for the rally nice replies!
The painting is REALLY easy:
prime white
wash Thraka Green (all bones, tooths, hornes and claws have to stay white)
followed by Gryphon Sepia wash on the whole modell excluding the tongue
the tongue washed with Baal Red
Golden Yellow and a black dot for the eye
sword Mithrill Silver and Bronze, washed with Devlun Mud and a mix of Sepia wash with a little bit of Blqzing Orange for rusty areas
Ready!

Very personal looking herald there, nice and bloated =) Is the metal model some non gw miniature?
Skip - January 29, 2011 12:30 PM (GMT)
Yes, it`s from the old confrontation miniatures. I saw many people on the internet use it for a Khorne herald
Walgis - January 29, 2011 02:25 PM (GMT)
awsome :) great army it will be :)
Talonz - February 2, 2011 11:40 PM (GMT)
Awesome herald! I knew i recognized the bracer on the right arm from somewhere....
edit: just looked back at you finished bl-bearers....freakin awesome! This army will look great!
Im not sold on the lava bases though...why not repaint the lava to look like swamp/filth? Or yellow/white pus flow or something? Lava red just looks incongrous next to the bearers....
Skjalandir - February 8, 2011 03:43 AM (GMT)
that is a great conversion, doing that might actually get me to get over the fact that I do refuse to buy khorne models. I might have to do this to add more to my over 50 PB
Chris M - February 8, 2011 07:06 AM (GMT)
Holy crap! Easy conversions and fantastic looking models make for pure WIN! Thank you for posting up your conversion tutorial as I assure you it will be used by MANY people on the forum.
I know I'm going to be doing a unit of 40.
