Title: Can we have member choices?

Thermopyles - May 22, 2005 06:20 AM (GMT)
Hello all, I was wondering if it would be possible to have choices of groups to belong to under the "group" listing, instead of only "member"? For example we could offer choices like Turkey/Greece/nuetral/member/etc...

This wya it might help us understand why poeple have the positions they do. Sometimes I dont know (from what side/angle) who is saying what, plus its nice to support a group one likes :)

What do you all think?

Yup, I like that idea.

I like to be a member of the PussyMeisters club. Anyone else care to join me?

:bootyshake: <----By the way, what the hell is this doing in a Greek/Turkish forum? :P :P :P

I dont like the idea of creating groups within the forum, whether based on nationality or anything else.

It will only create the we versus them feeeling within the forum and deter the quality of the forum.

So I say no to the idea of making groups within the WCF.

I realize this is the main concen. IMHO I don't think it will split us, I actually think it would help us understand eachothers position, since we know what group they support veiws for. Greeks and Turks have shows excellent cohesion/sunergy and I don't think it would stop because we have group titles.

It seemed to me that the grouping in the other place may have been a small factor, but from my limited experience there, the fallout came because of other issues...

It seems that here people have very good control over themselves and I don't think that belonging to a group would make the quality of the forum go down. It may add a little spirit, I admit, but the forumers who contribute here seem very able to debate as mature adults...

Also the mods do a good job upholding the rules of WCF and if someone flamed because of the groups I'm sure they would be corrected...

Just trying to mouve the forum, thats all. I'd like to hear from more members and see what they think, but your final decision will obviosly be respected.

Creating groups could go all well, but shurely you cant the danger of flames starting between groups, and the debates becoming group centered rahter than problem centered. So why take the risk.

Also I think its more interesting to see individual opinions and perspectives thatn those of group based.

And as last, what benefit has it of creating groups, does it add on any quality or improve anything in the forum.

A more serious answer to the "group question"....

I also do not like the idea of groups. It may cause more grief then the intent of inciting longer discussions.

I also agree with Thermo. His intent is to cause more discussion and THAT is indeed an issue. We need more poster participation and we need to find a way to do this.

Well more forum activity starts with yourself. If you post atleast 10 posts a day the forum will be more active hahahaha ;)

Please Gents...the forum is doing fine...(at least i feel that way)
we dont need 1 mil members nor do we need...1 mil of post...if this is tracking the quality down...
nor do we need some pissing contest among forums...or members...
The wcf will be transformed to a Net Think Tank in time...thats the goal of the administration...

Thanks to all of you who participate and thanks to our very well discussed goals..
Thermos sugestion is interesting ...and he is a well respected member...
iam very happy that he contribute alot of new ideas...

Also, people tend to refer to themselves as "we" in general, or people of a nation. This becomes confusing to me because I don't know which "we" he/she might be reffering to. I don't have time to go through and show you all the examples, but you can see them yourself. Its basic human tendency to want to belong to their nation/tribe/ect, and people naturaly use "we" to refer to their own group, be that what it be. Just the facts.

Well my point was that exactly these kind of discussions about we and them should be prevented. An 'we/them' mentality is often biased and could lead to unnecessary confrontations. I can understand that people tend to write like this, I tend to do also sometimes but it would be better not to.

If a certain state, government, institution, company or person did a certain act, write about that but dont use the we sentence. Only in opinions should you use I, or if you can speak for the collective opinion use we.

Yes I agree. But keep in mind that when you prevent the choice of people choosing a side, your enforcing neutrality, and of course nuetral is just a subjective a point of view as well. So give people the option, if one chooses to stay neutral they can keep the "members" catigory, but if they would like to proclaim who they represent, they should have that option also.

Case in point:

I have this problem all the time trying to figure out who is what/from where.
I can agree to disagree and be happy the way thigs are now, but I like this debate on different/new ideas. This is just my position, as someone wanted.
