What do they mean by subsonic ammunition?
Subsonic ammunition is ammo that travels below the speed of sound, in order to avoid the sonic boom and reduce noise considerably, especialy over distance. However, this type of ammo is only used with a surpressor, otherwise there is no point to have it. The other problem is that subsonic ammo DOES NOT have an effective range of 800m! more like 300m max. The projectile travels at around 350m/sec instead of 840m/sec, therefore reducing range by 60-70%. And at 200-300m, the bang from the weapon even without the sonic boom is enough for a trained infantry to locate the fireing position. The projectile is considerably heavier than the standars 147 grain M80 ball, giving it a very different trajectory. This requires marksmen to specificaly fill out thier field guide and zero thier rifle for this round, making it difficult to switch to 147(ball, tracer)gr-150(HE/I)gr-165(AP)gr and back to subsonic...
The other MAJOR problem with this weapon is that the flash/recoil surpressor seems to leave a dust signiture after a shot. Marksman rifles must divert gasses up and at 180o. going past 180o (190o-270o) discharge risks leaving a deadly dust sig.
This weapon combo makes no sense :doubt:
