Greece has placed an official order for 12 Be-200 amphibious planes, including firm order for six planes and the option for the remainder. It wants the first plane already by 2009, Interfax reported with reference to a source with Russia’s defense and industry community.
In addition to Greece, Italy has ordered two Be-200s and Portugal needs four planes under the firm order and six planes under the option. The respective contracts are being considered now, the source said.

Past year, Irkut Corp negotiated Be-200 delivery with a number of foreign states, including Spain, the United States, Turkey, Algeria, Malaysia and Indonesia. “The plans are to supply up to 100 Be-200s to global market of aircraft by 2015,” the source specified.

Be-200 amphibious plane is the first civil program of Irkut Corp. It was designed at Taganrog ANTK. Able to land both on ground and on water, Be-200 is designated to fight fire, carry out search and rescue operations, patrol sea areas.

These were firefighting planes? I didn't know... and why have we not gotten more fire planes in the last 25 years??

:damn: :drink2: +1

But there are many thing we should be doing more of for our forests that we are not:

-fuel growth removal
-erosion control
-re-planting
-preventitive measures ex. more dasofulakes... forest rangers, faster responce cap, cutting dead trees etc...

Just another in the list of faliures of all successive Greek gov's...

Great idea to buy these planes. Firefighting is going to be a big issue for Greece with global warming. They need all the help they can get.

BTW, I note that some construction carpenter in Greece was arrested yesterday trying to start a forest fire. I hope they make an example of him and throw his ass in prison for about 10 years! :battered:

If it could carry a few torpdedoes or exocet/krypton missiles that would be awesome :P
Could we order a variant of that type? Fire/ship fighting? :baeh: :baeh:

:applause: Great Pic Kornet! thats a lovely bird!

Yes it would be nice if it could be modified to carry an exocet or SCALP :D But the electronics required would make it impractical, no?

I personnally think 12 planes is not enought,we need many more,a order of

more Canadairs wouldn't be a bad idea.

we have the same problem summer fires. and construction makers burning forest.

but mostly we prefer helicopters for this.
because sea would be far mostly to the fýre.
but if fire isclose to sea canadairs work very nice.

Aircraft can carry far more water weight than Helicopters. They're a more efficient anti-fire machine.
