Caliber: 7.62x51mm NATO (.308) and .243
Operation: Bolt Action, Rotating bolt
Length: 1140mm
Barrel: 650mm
Weight: 3.9 kg empty; 4.6 kg with telescope
Feed Mechanism: 5 round rotary magazine, or 10 round box mag. (discontinued)

Steyr SSG (ScharfShutzenGewehr 69) was developed and is being built by Austrian company Steyr-Daimler-Puch. SSG 69 was adopted by Austrian Army in 1969, thus gaining its name.
Technically, SSG 69 is a bolt action, rotating bolt, magazine fed rifle. Bolt locking is achieved via 6 lugs. Barrel is cold-hamer forged. Standart feeding device is detachable Steyr-type rotary magazine for 5 rounds. Box magazines for 10 rounds were offered for some time but now discontinued. SSG 69 (AKA SSG-P1) was issued with iron sights installed, other modifications are offered without iron sights.
Steyr's SSG 69 faced off in USA in 1986-87 with the rifle that would become the M24 in the final round of the process to select the US Army's new sniper rifle. It was narrowly beaten by the Remington Model 700, but only in the distances beyond 600 meters. Within that distance, both rifles produced same sub-minute-of-angle accuracy. Newerthless, the SSG 69 is an excellent, albeit more expencive, choice for non-military tactical rifle, where shots beyond 400 meters are rare. Today, the Steyr SSG is offered to the military, police and civilian shooters in 4 different models: the SSG-PI, SSG-PII, SSG-PIIK and the SSG-PIV. SSG-PI was originally developed as a counter-sniper rifle, and was the first such weapon to be equipped with a syntetic stock. It has a 26" (660mm) barrel and is equipped with iron sights, as well as standart NATO-spec dovetails for a telescopic sight. The SSG-PII is built for police use as a tactical or sniper rifle. It has a 26" heavy barrel. it lacks iron sights and has an oversized bolt handle for quick follow-up shots. The SSG-PIIK differs from SSG-PII only by 20" (508mm) barrel for use in crowded urban situations. Although the barrel is shorther, there is no lack of accuracy out to 500 meters. The SSG-PIV is known in Europe as the SSG SD. It has 16" (406mm) barrel with detachable flash hider, which can easily be changet to sound suppressor (silencer). All SSG models has polymer stocks with removable spacers in the buttplate to allow the stock to be fitted for each individual shooter.

Yeah I would take a Rem 700 over this. Its lighter, tougher, more accurate, and the bolt action is smooth as silk. Only thing is they don't have a 10 round mag. But I'm a big fan of rotary mags. IME they perform very very well. Plus the 700 is also offered it in .30-06 whitch is the same ammo our old M-1's use and that increases the effective range from 600-700m up to 800-1000m. As far a silencers, those are over-rated for rifles, because the sonic boom will make enough noise by itself. But yes the silencer will help conceal the postition better.

For that matter, I'd take a PSG-1 or MSG-90 over any sniper/sharpsooter rifle.

The KEFEFS is a rugged, heavy-barrelled, highly accurate and exceptionally reliable boltaction sniping rifle firing the 7.62 mm X 51 NATO ammunition.
It is available in two versions which differ in the length, weight and external shape of the barrel only. The KEFEFS-M version coated with highstrength, heat-resistant camouflage paints (forest and desert) is intented for use by military snipers while the KEFEFS-P version with a slightly longer, heavier, externally fluted barrel and an oil-polished stock is designed to meet the need for a police sniper weapon.
Either version has a cold-hammered, highprecision, free-floating, exposed barrel made of special high-grade steel.
The receiver, bolt and all metal components are also made of special steel.
The ergonomically and elegantly designed stock, which is made of high-quality walnut with cross-knurling, is of the Monte Carlo model.
The simple and robust bolt-action mechanism with a 50° opening angle enables the bolt to be flexible and easy to open.
The third lug of the three locking lugs located at the front of the bolt acts as a rail which gives the bolt a friction-free and smooth movement. The firing mechanism incorporates an extremely quiet, thumb-operated safety the stiffness of which is adjustable.
Trigger pull and travel can also be adjusted. A wide range of telescopic sights and sight mounts is available to suit the user's requirements, since it is the sighting system which plays an important role in sniping.
Scopes are adjustable for windage and elevation. Night vision devices are also available.
The weapon is supplied with a bipod (having a quick release mechanism), a carrying sling and a complete field-service kit.

Dragunov is indeed a very nice and effective weapon. Not to mention that the name of this sniper rifle sound cool too...."Dragunov"...yeah babe!!!

Thermopyles - December 31, 2006 05:19 AM (GMT)
:horror: Looks like I need to catch up! The KEFEFS-M looks like the bomb! :applause:

The Dragunov is nice all-round but for semis I'd still want PSG. All around I'd go with bolt +10rd mag... and a side arm for close up... for sniper. Semi with 20 rd for sharpshooting.

What is the price of the Kefefs and the term Kefefs from the Kifinas or what;

KOKORO - January 11, 2007 12:43 PM (GMT)
we use dragonov alot

here because pkk use alot.

not a real sniper rifle becasue it is semiautomatic. real one is like hunting rifles. bolt action.
and range is nearly 700 800 meters if there is no wind.

but because it is cheap and very thrustble weapon . in our army till the year 1993 we use it. firts we buy it from north iraq like Pkk. oficers during the north iraq operations wisit the bazars and boght them.

becasue north iraq they sell them still in bazzars. ( bakara bazzar like Black hawk down). then we star to buy it from russia. some from china replicas but they were horrible. but now number increaset to nearlt 15 000 units only draganow. even the normal mountain units start to use them.

every team has 2 draganovs now. and we call it canas here.

what does Kefes mean ??
Kaan

in the army we had lots of ak 47 s most people say that they are from pkk takenaaway but people forget or dont know that when east germany and west united we had lots of equipment . when i read the article in the defence magazine . the equipment we took was enourmous such as 200 000 k 47 s
12 000 rpg launchers 40 old phantoms ??? from west . 300 000 helmets east german helmets . ( ý used that in the traing) we call each other musroom heads or dick heads
looked very stupid. mostly we use them in training bases.

and the list goes on never heard about the draganovs but could be . because now every where is full of sniper rifles.
