A question. Is the above aircraft a blk 50 or blk 52+? If blk 52+ why is it using drop tanks as opposed to CFT's?

Koursaros - December 1, 2006 02:56 AM (GMT)
They don't use CFTs that much. They are saving them for NATO inspections. :P

I think it is one of the Blk52+, not 100% sure though.

As for the wing tanks, the Blk52+ can carry the CFT, but this doesn't mean they can't carry the normal wing tanks as well, either alternatively or additionaly, AFAIK.

Maybe someone can confirm this.

1) Serial No. is "517", so it's a Blk 52+.

2) Because it can, and this confuses the Turks. :baeh:

F16C/D Blk52+ can be fitted or remove the CFT depending on the operational needs and mission profile. CFT is not a permanent feature.
The fighter in the photos is a Blk52+, but there is more to the photos that meets the eye...
I trust you can all notice the AMRAAM AIM120-C5 on the wings as well!

I also checked my photo archives and it appears to be the first photo of a Blk52+ carrying an -C5 AMRAAM.
Check this out as well:

Look at the bottom on the chart with the ranges.

HAVE FUN !!!

65nm. No bad. Although F-16s cannot lock anything at that kind of ranges.

kinmid - December 2, 2006 03:29 PM (GMT)
Well I was actuallly interested in the use of the missile from the Greek HAWK systems, since the company upgrading it already made the necessary changes in order to use the AMRAAM missile (if we want to) in the future, so far as the range is concerned.
I wouldn't even try to make a point on using it in BVR engagement from max ranges of 65NM.
However, tactics F16 Blk52+ may use to exploit this increased capability of the missile with cooperation between a number of fighters through their situation awareness sharing capability, as well as the ability of the missile to pursue an escaping target even further, are also very interesting.

Very "weathered" camo for a plane flying only 2 years.

Well...
Their Fighter Wing (115PM) has taken under control the South-Eastern region of the Aegean, and with other older F16 taking on the duties of the withdrawn F4E-SRA in the North, and 19 of them being moved to Larisa AFB, they do fly alot and in almost real-war operational conditions.

HAVE FUN !!!

I 'll try to get some close pics of the blk52s when I get home (Larisa) for Christmas. I live in the airbase and there is a small track field just before the runway. You can even see it on google earth. You can get some great shots of landings. Especially if it is a low profile C-130 landing.
