The Russian ambassador to Greece sent a thank-you letter to Prime Minister Kostas Karamanlis for Greece’s contribution in the evacuation of Russian nationals from Beirut to Cyprus with Greek ships. In the letter, the ambassador voiced his country’s honest gratitude for the Greek government’s effective role in the recent humanitarian operation. "A friend in need is a friend indeed," read the letter, which also underlined that over 250 Russian citizens felt the Greek humanitarian commitment and deep solidarity of the Greek seamen.
