The pictures show a special armored forces unit named Akrep (or Scorpion) equipped with modified M60 tanks. I believe it is serving in the southeast part of the country.

Armored Special Forces? isn't abit contradicting? Do the rappel of choppers with their Tanks too?
By the way, what's happening with your Leo2 A4? I was reading that the German Parliaments hasn't approve the sale yet and that there is a possibility that you will not get them... is this true? Any info on when they are reaching Turkey?

You may not like those M60s but you can not imagine how those old bastards changed the faith of many fightings and soldiers in SE during figthing against terrorists. Esspecially in the outposts with their Ir sensors and nightvision capability they helped a lot. Even one of these beasts took out many terrorists alone during fightings. So, yes they are very special for the soldiers who served in the region, many owes their lifes to them and to their crews.

I know very well baris since iserved there and my brigade was guarded with one M-60 A3 and one IFV (FNSS) day and night.. I love the beasts and their roar (when they work) but they are quite old warriors and like all old warriors its time they retire..

There is a story very often told to show the effectiveness of them among soldiers. If you have talked to any artillery guys before you have probably heard the saying "it never falls in the same place twice". This is also seems to known by the terrorists. When the tanks arrived to the outposts first time, it was a great suprise for the terrorists. According to the story, one of the tanks fires at the terrorists during an engagement at night. Later, the attackers take cover inside the whole created by the tanks gunfire without knowing that it was shot by tank and assumming it was coming from a mortar or a light artillery piece. But, they were observed watched by the termal cam of the tank. Second shot blowed them of the ground into dust. That is how they met the good old M60s. That is why I am saying that they should stay in the envanter for some time more to be used as a support weapon for the outposts. They are a moralebooster at least for the soldiers and a buttbooster for the terrorists.

Hehe , I know that story :) Well i agree that they suffice more than enough for internal security ops or stationed garrison watchers. But they are not deterrant against new generation tanks.

I don't know what makes those guys so special. They are all conscripts and I have not heard of any armoured unit attached to any SF brigade. They are probably belong to a task force of a armoured brigade, my guess would be 172nd. They are probably for public affairs be cause the camo on their face has no tactical usage. Anyway the camo on the tanks shows the new pattern used esspecially in SE Anatolia. But, I have seen the same camo on some tanks, trucks and APC's in the western brigades too. Just my thoughts on the pictures as I could find time to look carefully at them at last.

You're probably right. It looks more like a press invitation to an armored company located near the Iraqi border. But, the camo on their faces and the tactical positions taken up by crew away from the tanks (like the machine gun/MP5 team in picture 5), seem unusual for a typical tank unit...
