Title: help me please!
cameleon1975 - June 9, 2006 11:01 PM (GMT)
I have a serious problem with my internet connection and maybe you can help me out.Very often I can't connect to the net.The led on my usb modem ( ERICCSON HM120DP ) from costant on starts to go off-on and the modem icon gets a red cross over it ( like a disconnected device ).Sometimes the led goes on again but when I try to connect it gives me an Error 619.I have contacted the tecnical assistance of the internet provider but I always get the same answer from them :That they have checked the line and its works without any problem.....Usually I can reconect to the net after hours(sometimes after a day) without doing anything special(besides turning the pc on).
Sometimes when I get disconnected from the net (but not always) I get the following message : USB CONTROLLER BANDWIDTH EXCEEDED.Could it be that its a problem of my pc?Any other device I have connected to the Usb ports (mouse,printer/scanner,mobile phone,mp3 player, etc)never gave me any problem.
Does anyone have a clue?
This are my pc char:
CPU: ATHLON XP 17000
RAM: 512 MB 266 MHZ
M/B: ABIT KDG LITE
Thanks in advance!
P.S. Please help me,cause I was more than one time tempted to open the window and throw out my pc (modem included)!Don't know if I'll resist next time! :)

Try to bring your system to a previous configuration.
Unter System control there must be a function for this.

Cam have a look at the following:
a. ensure you have the latest drivers for your modem
b. make sure your bios initializes your modem with no probs and it is always turned on before the PC is powered on
c. what about trying Ethernet connection instead of USB
d. uninstall/ reinstall modem
e. go to device manager and check whether there are any probs with the device
Let me know for your what you did, successfully or not

go to a netcafe and download the newest driver& firmware available for your modem.

USB is a troublesome thing. If whats suggested above esp. by Hades wont work reinstall XP apply all SPs only and make a clean back up of it (using an image making software like Acronis Image Maker/Norton Ghost) and save for future use(actually thisapplies for everyone, will save you alot of install time in case of a crash).
After this is done install your modem and check if things work fine. If everything is ok one by one try installing other usb devices to see if there is any conflict. Usually things work fine after a clean install.. Make sure you follow the correct procedure with each usb device. (i.e never plug in a usb device prior its driver installation if the manual says so)
If these are too troublesome buy an ethernet modem

I believe cameleon that the message is rather self explanatory.. probably you have a high bandwidth internet connection and many other active USB devices pluged on the controller at the same time.. it looks like your controller can't handle it.. can it be that you have a USB 1.0 controller (or some of the devices you use force the controller to slow down to level 1.0) cause if so then it has a rather small limit (2Mbps if i'm not mistaken)..
USB 2.0 is much higher so you shouldn't have such a problem in general...
Try to unpluge some of them and see what's happening.. :)

a pci usb card is what you need it costs 10-30 euro
The thing is that i checked abit for the mobo you described but it does not exist..Even udb 1 should be able to handle the devices he uses given he only has a modem, joystick, printer, scanner if they all don't work together at the same time.

Thanks for all your suggestions!I'll try them out and will then answer your.
- I think that my mo/bo is called KDG-7 Lite.Its quite old.
- My usb ports are the old v1.0
- I have the latest drivers for my modem.
Anyway,I borrowed from a friend another usb modem and a notebook(quite new, bought a month ago)which both work perfectly and could not connect to the net from my line.So it could be a problem of my line(or from my internet provider). For the moment my line is working again.... <_<
As soon as I have news,I'll will inform you.! :hathello:

If you have USB 1.0 then you found your problem mate.. i suggest you get a USB 2.0 controller and modem (or buy a new PC because for having 1.0 your pc must be 4 years old at least)... usb 2.0 has a b/w of 480 Mbps so you will not have any b/w problems, plus that all other devices you use will work faster...

Update: The technicians just came by to check on my problem, according to them its a problem of the telephone line they had installed...
cameleon1975 - June 22, 2006 11:25 AM (GMT)
Well, after check up of the line they told me that values very crappy. The ones who installed the line did a shitty job.
I guess my pc/modem are not in the best shape too.
According to them, the line wont give me any more problems....
Only time will tell!
