Title: Star Wars Empire at war
ghostface killa - March 10, 2006 06:13 PM (GMT)
Has anyone played this game?
I finished the campaign of the Galactic Empire.
The game was interesting at the beginning but after a while it get's a little frustrating conqeuring planets. I was dissapointed that you only get the Imperial Star destroyers very late. They are cool and it was nice blowing up planets with the Death Star.

Unfortunately i think the game has very limited replayability.. But then again there will be many mods to play it seems.. which is a good thing for the fans..
Overall the game is good tho..
Cid - March 12, 2006 10:39 PM (GMT)
I havent played it, since there are so many dissapointing Star Wars games. Do you also have space battles? And which sides can you play: Empire, Rebel, Old Republic and Seperatists?
I am though a huge fan of the "Knights Of The Old Republic" (KOTOR) series, which any respectable rpg gamer should love

Well the game is during the time of ep 4,5,6.. so you command armies / fleets of a rather strong empire with Victory and Imperial Class SDs near endgame.. You even command the switch of Deathstar to destroy all the planets in the galaxy which is far far away.. :P
On rebel side you have to hold out until you get Moncalamaris since the Nebulon-B and Assault frigates are no match for even the Victory class.. Luckily Y-wings / X-Wings are cheap , Ion cannons from planets can empty shields of Imperial fleets n one shot..
The game is not disappointing but once you are thru the single player campaign i dont think it offers much. Still the engine is good enough for mods and we might play the whole history of SW galaxy in this engine thanks to MODs and Expansion packs..

Sounds very nice. If I may ask, which systems do you battle at, just the ones in episodes 4, 5 and 6 or also some other systems like perhaps the Corellian System. Also do you have the possibilty to build/battle with an Imperial SSD (Super Star Destroyer)
beleg - March 13, 2006 11:11 AM (GMT)
No SSDs , no Tie Advanced, no Assault gunboat, no Missile gunboat , no B wing..
You can battle and control all the major planets in SW galaxy but the battles are somewhat limited .. The game is good.. But its not 10/10.. I never liked any lucasart game as much as Tie Fighter & X-Wing vs Tie Fighter until today.

Really you must try out KOTOR I and II (KOTOR I is better though) These games take place 4000 BBY (before Star Wars Episode IV) and you visit both to well known SW planets as well as brand new worlds. It explains a lott about the SW universe (the Mandalorians, the relationship of the Sith and the Jedi) and the gaemplay is very good. Best SW games ever.
beleg - March 13, 2006 11:55 AM (GMT)
Arent mandalorians those sith like guys who utilise the dark side of the force and then anhillate themselves?
Cid - March 13, 2006 12:06 PM (GMT)
Now the Mandalorians are not force users. They have a warrior culture, devided into clans, who esteem honour and valour and proudly take part in Galactic wars for all sides. Their armor was the source of inspiration for the Republic-era troopers (clones).
Most famous Mandalorians are ofcourse Jango Fett and Boba Fett and the lesser known but legendary Canderous Ordo (from KOTOR games)

I just got SW: EAW yesterday, looked at the begining of the game and I liked it. It's a Command&Conquer type game with better commanding tools such as barrage fire, go to destination and encounter enemies, go to destination and ignore enemies, etc. Vader was there too so it made it all the more impressive for me. Are other characters such as Luke, Leia, Han in the game as well???
BTW, I didn't play KOTOR I, but KOTOR II is really an amazing piece of work. It's long and informative. Too many conversations though... I just can't beat the end-boss (I won't say who it is not to spoil it for those who will play it) and I'm stuck there, everytime I load the game, he/she comes and kickes my ass inside out.

Well Captain, indeed the boss is very tough. Look here for some tips on how to defeat the final boss.
http://db.gamefaqs.com/console/xbox/file/s...tor_ii_boss.txthttp://www.gamefaqs.com/console/xbox/game/920194.htmlBTW do you understand the story, it is heavily based on KOTOR I, especially about Revan Kreia the Mandalorians, Dantooine.
In fact KOTOR II is similar to The Empire Strikes Back, embrace yourself for the journey of Revan and the Jedi Exile to the unknown regions in KOTOR III :duel: :yeehaw:
beleg - March 13, 2006 02:00 PM (GMT)
There is Han Solo and Chewey.. Emperor Palpatine.. and ofcourse Luke Skywalker..
Infact with Emperor Palpatine + Dath Vader and a few artillary units you can wipe out any rebel army from face of a planet. I have not finished the game with rebels yet so i dont know Luke Skywalkers land fight abilities while Han solo and Chewey excell in running away :)

Yes I fully understood the storyline as I was forced by the game to read all these friggin conversations between the characters. One more thing that frustrated me was that, I deliberately left some secondary missions unfinished (e.g. did not hand out the star port passes to anyone and/or did not help some folks on another planet) with the idea of coming back and finishing them. But no, the game didn't let me do it. Many points/credits wasted.
I didn't know KOTOR III was going to be released. Wowwww... :saber1:
Cid - March 13, 2006 02:16 PM (GMT)
Well there are no official anouncements, but but have a look here:
http://xbox360.ign.com/objects/793/793795.htmlKOTOR III is speculated to be a next gen project, for PC, XBOX360 and PS3. The developers also licensed Unreal technology for RPG games ;)

Chewey : bwwwaaaaaaaaaaaa..
Han: I know its hot in here. Try not to breathe so much..
Chewey : bwaaaah
Hehehe..
Alepou 340MB - March 13, 2006 11:49 PM (GMT)
Chewey can also capture AT-ST walkers and use them against the Empire!
I love the space battles but the ground battles and maps are small and seem to be an after thought. I think they will release an add –on later on with things like b-wing, interceptor tie etc. maybe also craft from the Ep 1, 2, 3.
I’m only a couple of missions into the Rebel campaign, so far the best spacecraft is the modified Corellian corvette.
Cheers,
Alepou 340MB
beleg - March 14, 2006 08:52 AM (GMT)
Agreed Alepou.. The Land control skirmish games are more fun to play but the size of the map is really limited.. One realley misses the HUGE battle fields of C&C gun2
ghostface killa - March 14, 2006 11:31 PM (GMT)
You have to use your units carefully in the landbattles,
because on some planets their is some a$$-kicking. Especially when you take endor, those ewoks came out of every corner, I got quite frustrated. Nasty creatures.
When you are playing empire in the beginning its fun, because you are limited in your power and the rebellion kick your a$$ a lot, but when you conquer enough planets you gain numerical advantages.
It's nice to see a game where the numbers don't count but the strategy.
And you can lose a lot of starships when the rebellion has loads of small fighters but you still employ acclamators and Victory class cruisers.
I love it.

You do realise that the more you tighten your grip, the more systems will slip through your fingers.
