Just watched it... For those that love anime, only... The visuals were somehow fantastic while the non-special effect scenes were still good. Photography is awesome, and sometimes I felt like watching a canvas on motion or playing a game Final Fantasy... I also found common elements with Metropolis, Matrix, Blade Runner and a bit of Crow... I liked the phrase "You don't know what war's like" being repeated all the time... But what really really impressed me was the music... I can't describe it, it was just AMAZING!!!
@ Beleg and Cid: Have you watched it guys? :D

Yeah I had seen it some time ago. It's a pretty weird movie, but with interesting settings. War between continental empires lead by a select aristocracy and unethical bio-enginering which leads to a group proclaiming to be a new human specie, the Neo-Sapiens, taking control of robots and declaring war on the Homo-Sapiens. Also the gear of the soldiers in the flashbacks reminded me a lott of Nazi soldiers.
To be frankly I have mixed feelings about the movie. From one point the story had a great potential and there were some interesting plots. However from another point the actors could have done a better work, the story could have been worked out better and the certainly the sets and filming could use some improvements. Still it has some attractions, which make it bearable to watch to even the most scepticts of Oriental Science Fiction :D
BTW I dont find anything comparable to Final Fantasy aside the huge airships and some of the story elements of FF-7 (did you play Final Fantasy, which ones?)

Can't be sure which one I played, it's been a really long time since then, but it has to be any of the first ones... Have seen the animation movie though, maybe am a bit influenced by that...

The animes (both the fully computer animated and the cell animated) are based on Final Fantasy 7, one describing the story years after FF7 and the other the story just before the beginning of FF7. But indeed it has some superficial similarities with Casshern.
BTW the movie Casshern is based on an old Japanese animation from the 70's/80's.
