my comments:

GEETHA:

The military satelites (spy and network ones) program ROCKS !!!! user posted image

NAVY:

it seems that we go for 6 frigattes in the next decade and 2 more in the 2015-2020... French and Italians too will split in three parts their FREMM orders..
And it seems from the price (460 million Euros) that we are going for the italian/multirole version of the FREMMs -if in the end we will go for that platform- and not for the French one that costs 380 millions...user posted image

Too bad the MEKO upgrade is not more expensive..user posted imagewe can always add some fancy but expensive toys on them.. :dunno:

I admit that I was not expecting us to be going for maritime aircrafts, and I am more surprised by their number (5) and even more surprised from their price that means we are buying them BRAND NEW :shok: :dunno:

ARMY:

The number if the AIFVs and the Wheeled IFVs is huge, especially if someone is considering the fresh purchase of the Marders... :drink2:

QUOTE
299+144 light armoured vehicles 111+77

the Panhard VBL (long version)... this is a huge number too if you ask me...

QUOTE
special munitions 2,537

SMART munitions, guided munitions, Lahats, etc... user posted image

Very sweet purchase!! This kind of stuff gives superiority to the current battlefield.user posted image

-The 600 millions for antiaircraft systems is obviously radar guided machine guns... we are totaly covered from the AAW missile sector..

I am also very confused for not seing any Apaches or any new trucks for the Army.. I hope the "leaking" here had a flaw...user posted image

AIRFORCE:

this is a hugely disappointing list... except from the 100 millions that are directed for the nEUROn research funding and the 90 millions for the excersising of the C-27 option, the list since it contains funds for 40 F-16s is devastatingly disapointing. user posted image user posted image

do you need that kind of proof? cause I never believed there was a serious chance or these promises to become reality... :D

upgrading of F-4 174
:doubt:
Is this left over payments for the PI2000?

QUOTE
New aircraft 3,060
(euro)
Since the Turkish F-X program is valued at about $10 billion for 120 aircraft, and the Greek budget calls for about $3.5 billion. We can therefore approximate a requirement for about 40 aircraft (3.5/10).

Note: It appears the Kortenaer upgrade has been shelved in favor of the new 3+3 frigate plan.

ChrisCRTS - December 11, 2005 08:41 AM (GMT)
What's going on? :dunno:
Dirrectly for F-16
For replacement of losses and old plane 2500 million €
ECM for F-16 350
Various attacments in the f-16 (?) 10
Upgrade of older F-16 178

Indirect (Partialy?) for F-16 or for the whole of HAF?
Missiles 900 million €
Projektiles (?) 190
Infrastructure for new weapons (?) 215 !!

And then came this part!:south:
user posted image

New planes 3060 million €
ECM 39
Weapons infrastructure etc 278
Those are for the "new" 4th generation:north: right?

But those?:south:

Long Range missiles (Cruise?) 125
BVR Missiles 212
Air-to-Ground missiles 280

I thing the F-16 contract is bigger then 2500 million€!
The weapons only are 1707/1985 million €! I am sure a big part of it goes indirectly to the "new" F-16 :damn:

Thermopyles - December 12, 2005 04:20 PM (GMT)
First off, I'm glad to see Army getting more funds tha AF for once. But still disappointed with some elimata (ommisions?)...

Those are serious programs... I'm sure there will be many changes by the time they are done. Dissapointed not to see funds for PPE of border infantry forces, but very pleased to see 607 mio for AA systems for land forces. Hopefully this includes vastly expanded capabilities for infantry - not only artilary, perhaps even Igla-2 or stingers for us as well. But MANPADS for infantry is critical IMO.

digenis - December 12, 2005 05:38 PM (GMT)
The biggest disappointment (if true) is that each branch has its own independent acquisition program for ECM. It would be wiser to have the GEETHA manage a single project that would equip the branches with a similar as possible system.

Efeler,

Any F-4 "upgrade" payments are most probably for either new ECM or weapon integration. The new fighter program has been declared to be for 40 aircraft (at least in the coming 5-year plan). Since the HAF requires a total of 60-80 airplanes, anything over the budget set would be included in the next 5-year plan. The Kortenaer upgrade will proceed with 6 ships, and be completed in 2009 (the Kountouriotis will be completed in the next few months).

Pytheas - December 12, 2005 08:40 PM (GMT)
digenis,

if you will look carefuly the original list, the aquisition programs are mixed. ;)
The seperate lists are propably made for the readers of the newspapers. ;)

Also I dunno if it escapes your memory, but the Koertnaer upgrade is negotiated to be canceled...
So far one ship has been copleted the upgrade, another one is being at the works, and noone knows what will happen with the others

digenis - December 12, 2005 09:19 PM (GMT)
Pythea,

I doubt "splitting" the list helped most of the readers. In the past the branches have acquired different systems for identical needs, and it looks like this might still be the case going forward.

The Koertnaer contract has been signed, and it was difficult to break. You can read "Amyntika Themata" December 2005, page 89:
"επιχειρήθηκε, όπως προαναφέραμε, αναπροσαρμογή του προγράμματος και περιορισμός του αριθμού των πλοίων προς εκσυγχρονισμό. Τότε διαπιστώθηκε ότι αυτο ήταν ΑΔΥΝΤΑΤΟ μέσω της σύμβασης, οπότε και αυτή προχωρά κανονικά"

Trans: An attempt was made to reduce the number of ships to be modernized, but that was impossible because of the contract.

Pytheas - December 12, 2005 10:00 PM (GMT)
in any case, this is what I see :

user posted image

And we 'll see what will happen with the Koertnaers... It would be even better to upgrade them AND have the new frigate program.

Thermopyles - December 22, 2005 02:32 AM (GMT)
Some other things that give me a  (lol): I really like are the 109 mio for communications (maybe now we can get rid of the WWII wind-up phones  )

and 2,554 BIO for "special munitions" :naughty: I can only imagine what this 2,5 bio of this catigory could include :charge:

Artemidoros - January 4, 2006 01:31 PM (GMT)
Those who could or took the trouble to go through that 10 year plan may have noticed it contains 486 different programmes. From major arms purchases and services to destruction of old ammo or peacekeeping expenses. It is split in three parts, Alpha, Beta and Gamma.
Part Alpha contains 247 programmes, the ones deemed absolutely essential, and the cost is 22 billion Euro.
Part Beta contains programmes from 248 to 358 and is worth another 15 billion. Those programmes are considered very important but will only be activated if the economy allows it.
Part Gamma, progs. 349 to 486 are desirable but thought to have no chance of being activated in the next decade. They would have added another 15 billion to the cost. For example the purchase of aerial refuelling tankers is prog. 447, allocated 750 million. It just shows that the leadership of the HAF gives tankers a very low priority indeed.

It seems to me that the cost is going to be significantly higher than 22 billion, regardless of the shape of the economy. Some examples of why I am saying this:

Prog. 4 (No 1 for HAF) 500 mil for a/c attrition replacements and prog. 8 (No 2 for HAF) 2,000 mil for replacement of 2nd generation a/c. Part of these two is supposed to be underway with the deal for 30 F-16, worth 1,700 million.
Then we have prog. 250-252 in part Beta, worth 3,100 million, thought to be money for 4th generation a/c. Also prog. 399, worth 4,750 million to "counter the Turkish JSF" in part Gamma.
Therefore, nearly 8 billion for 4th generation aircraft (enough for about 90), which the HAF says are not absolutely essential in the next decade. And they say that knowing very well that both PASOK and ND governments have promised the purchase to our Euro-partners. So they are asking for other stuff, safe in the knowledge that they are going to get EF (or Rafale) anyway. The Europeans have waited long enough already.

Prog. 2 (No 1 for the Army) is 8 new gen. helis for 320 million and prog. 66 2 special missions helis for 88 million. Then prog. 285 in Beta for 12 helis 490 million and prog. 422 in Gamma for another 12. Meaning there is a possibility in 2015 the Army will have only 24 NH90 + 6 SF NH90 + 15 CH47 (9 of which will be in serious need of replacement, if they are still around). Rubbish. 3 to 4 years down the road the top brass will demand (and get) the implementation of prog. 285 and 422. An extra whole billion.

Prog. 3 (1st for HN) is 3 frigates for 1,400 million. Prog. 277 is Batch 2 (Beta) for another 1,400. So, if Batch 2 is not ordered in 2015 the HN will have 3 new frigates, 4 modernised MEKO and 5-6 type S (+ 2 S modified for training). Meaning half the main units of HN will be unable to act independently in a high risk environment. Yeah, pull the other one :P

There are a number of other programmes I could point out, like Pzh2000 but I think the point has been made.

We are heading for the 37 billion plan (or close to that), unless there are impressive developments in our relations with Turkey.

Lord - January 5, 2006 09:42 AM (GMT)
Arti...how accurate to you thing this planes can be..?
And i mean...how is the possibility ...that our leadership remain to this very impressive in numbers...plan...?
We saw it alot of time happenend...

Paradeigm....

The SF...do now have the M16s...with night scopes...have the M203...have the M4...have new camo...But dont have Ammo ...to waist 5,56mm for excersise use.... and i mean of corse not the usuall stuff of 20 round per soldier...:damn:

And what should they do supposed that we are under attack...were are they NH-90...to carry them? or should they remain on the "steyrcopter"...and go to the front?
Were are the nececary specialized vehicles...which can be transported into the Chinooks...? Because the Hummer is veeeeery nice...indeed...BUT IT DOSENT fit into the Heli... :wall:
Were are this specialized 'little things"///?

Regards and thanks for your analysis..

Artemidoros - January 5, 2006 01:18 PM (GMT)
Prog. 29 SF equipment 50 mil
Prog. 68 DYK equipment 50 mil
Prog. 71 underwater vehicles 10 mil
Prog. 99 upgrading of speedboats 1 mil
Prog. 100 22 new speedboats 40 mil
Prog. 193 modern fighter equipment 3.5 mil
Prog. 214 underwater scooters and comms, IFF etc 5.14 mil
Prog. 241 paratrooper equipment 2.14 mil
Prog. 242 thermal sights for M16 and various sights and rangefinders 21.3 mil

This is just from part Alpha. About 180 million for SF exclusively plus a couple of other progs for para simulators and they will also benefit from other progs indirectly.

Lord - January 5, 2006 01:37 PM (GMT)

hi,
nice equipment s you buy .

0.50 caliber gun 1 costs like 29 000 euros isnt it expensive !!
we had the same problem with the long range sniper rifles but small caliber
and we started to produce our selfs and cost like 5 6 times cheaper.

22 fast boats one costs 1.8 milion euro . CB 90

it is like our atack boat project sf bought 2 and one cost like 1 million euro and there were lots of argument how could it to be that expencive.

And again leopard trick just like Turkey they sell leopard a4 to you cheaper than 1 million euro and then to modernize they want 3 million euro for each Leopard. and an up graded Leo costs 4 million euro each .

We must be shoping from same bazar. :)

Well,it may be very expensive but don't forget its role.Actually, its more a weapon to use againts material than personal.A couple of well placed shots can destroy or render useless almost anything on the modern batllefield, besides MBTs.

KOKORO - September 19, 2006 12:42 PM (GMT)
yes you are right well shot with a 50 cal can make great things .

where i made my soldier training was huge army base and we had nearly every body there .
and in the rage field some times ofices shoot with mg3 50 cal machύne gun ( old).

and they brought this new 50 cal us sniper rifle .
the target was 200 meter 2 wehicles . one was an old carier and the other was a old m 48 .

the shots which hit the m 48 get inside the turet.

basicly before shooting we paint the tank. and new holes would be new shots.

200 meter and 500 meter shots all get in. also it has to do with the amunition.

they were talking it is good but who will cary this in the east in the mountains .

well as u say it is good agains apc s old tanks and even helicoters.

but still for the cost !!

i basicly know greece has metal industry and quite well.

u can produce it under lisance. or a new model.

Dude...

MG3 is 7.62mm not "50 cal" (12.7mm).

What "sniper" is shooting from 200 meters?! :damn:

And since when was the M48 (even the original) vulnerable to MG fire? :hammer:

KOKORO - September 21, 2006 09:46 AM (GMT)
sorr y
i forgot

to put , coma !! :hammer:

mg 3 and 50 cal old machine guns.

2) 200 meters because the the fire range was 200 meters. it wasn t to test the range it was to see the power of the weapon.

3) yes m48 not vunarable to m g 3 fire . becase of this they use it there to last for long years as a target. it is a old tank at the end of the fire range

i was mentioning that the new sniper rifles in the west side of turkey which are 50 cal was deployed like year 2000 2001 . and ofices were triying it.
normaly we have lost of dragonovs and g 3 with scopes. but 50 cal sniper rifle was new there.

becasuse they are also used againts apc and tanks so they want to see the efect. and
i can say that they are efective.

I think, KOKORO is reffering to the McMilan TAC 50 50 cal. rifle which is in use widely in Army Commando and Gendarmarrie Special Operation units. http://world.guns.ru/sniper/sn74-e.htm

Hi.

user posted image

when i first here we oficers will test 50 cal sniper rifle i thought m82a1 like every nato country has . but when we see . it was this. in 2001
it was this . . 5 bullets. quite strong.

it was heavy ,they were complaing about who will carry this in the mountain !!

where i did my army service there were no special ops, but huge school for traing and army ordanence and amunition. basύcly huge shop for army ground forces ;)
