I have a question... did they receive some "support" from the MoD/Army? I'm sure the rifles are fake (airsoft?) and the DBU's commercially purchased, but some scenes appear to have been taken in real bunkers/fylakia. Could these have been disused ones, as many exist on the Aegean islands? In any case, I'm sure permission would have to have been given.
PS: Did any of you every see (while in service or in fact EVER) a girl dressed like the blond (in the first picture posted by Hades)?
PS2: How many of you received "dog tags"?
Hades - December 13, 2005 12:02 AM (GMT)
I don't think it's so shameful to make a movie for the fun (even if unreal sometimes) side of the army... And what do you mean if any of us has ever received a dog tag? All soldiers get one, don't they? I have mine, Lord has his own etc...
Pytheas - December 13, 2005 12:51 AM (GMT)
well, yes, the MoD helped and funded the movie cause they said they need to bring closer the armed forces with the public...
As hades, I also do not find anything wrong by portraying some funny happenings in the army (regular army, let's not forget that Lord), that for the most people are the exact reason that they remember the army as the best days of their lives (doing crazy stuff with your pals, hanging around, banging girls, etc).. ;)
The first movie was an excelent one. No doubt aboutet. I'm going to see that one too and hope to have nice time.
But I can not avoid to say that the director of "Loufa kai Paralagi", Nikos Perrakis is a son of a b*tch. Some of his other movies are so outrageous that is beyond explanation.

Hades,
I never received dog tags, nor did anyone who joined with me (Sept. 1996) at Kalamata (9SP). For that matter, I do not recall seeing most soldiers wearing them at my tagma (644M/KTÐ, XXIII ÔÈÔ - Alexandroupoli) either.
I have not seen this movie nor any prior to it. If there is one thing you can't get access to abroad it is Hellenic cinema (unlike TV and music). So I was not passing judgement regarding the content of the movie... I just wanted to know if the MoD was aware of it and if they supported the movie.
Now, how can one go about getting the MoD to fund such a movie? ;)
PS: If anyone has seen the movie, can they comment on the weapons (are they airsoft or wood/plastic models)?

The endeavour to build up a closer connection between society and military is supportable but I doubt whether such a humorous attempt is appropriate to achieve that goal.

lol, no, it was not that kind of funding..
The MoD just payed a lot of money to do these F-16s and Mirages to fly for the movie, to provide some facilities, army toys etc...
On the other hand we have productionsthat are funded directly from the MoD...for example the daily TV series called "Aerines Siopes" that was broadcasted in the Mega chanel..
Theywere funded directly by the GEA (geniko epiteleio aeroporias) because they felt that the youths did not had as a priority in their dreams to become Ikaroi (pilots), so they funded these series that were portraying the fighters pilots as great kasanovas, having great social recognition, being respectful, wise,etc...
I admit they were a big joke, and I never saw it cause I could not stand the propaganda, but I admit that a lot of people became fanatics of the Airforce and the idea of becoming pilots through the series (like my brother) mut the biggest success these series had was between the female population.. there were many horny p*ssies about the actors of the series and the pilots in general.. :hammer:

I've seen a couple of trailers already, including the videoclip they have made.I am not impressed.Perakis did a good job in the first movie(Loufa and Parallagh) which is one of my favourite. The rest of his movies are mainly crap,a mixture of foul language and bad sex scenes.....

Another good point,
@Digenis
Why ,and how didnt you recieved a Dog Dag ?
digenis - February 14, 2006 11:07 PM (GMT)
Mystik,
As Chris also stated, I never received a "dog tag". When exactly are they normally issued (KEN)? I can state that nobody received them at my KEN (Kalamata - 9 SP). What is listed on them... name and ASM? I suppose that means that if I got killed in action, it would make it harder to identify my body. That's something I can "live" with!
Nobody has answered the question (perhaps nobody has seen the movie)... are the weapons airsoft or wood/plastic models?
Hades - February 15, 2006 02:58 AM (GMT)
Looked real to me, probably pretty much the same like the ones given for photos when in the army... blocked triggrer, absence of the mechanism, etc...
ChrisCRTS - February 15, 2006 08:51 AM (GMT)
I didn't saw the movie but i saw the vid of the song. There is a scene where someone shoots with the SA-80. There are flames and cartridges flying away.
I asume real with blanc munition.
Lord - February 15, 2006 10:31 AM (GMT)
Not at all they are "special" effect Riffles...something like the Gas pistolen in Germany...
Point is the greek Army dosent use this riffles...SA80 :damn:

Thermopyles - April 10, 2006 11:51 PM (GMT)
Well I haven't seen this movie, though I've heard its funny. What I can tell you about the service on the Islands (I served on Crete and of course Lesvos, but visited "bases" ( ) on Kasos and Karpathos. Kasos and Karpathos, yes, much (apoklistika) loufa . Crete, some but not much. I was only there for 40 days, so my experience is not that much there. Lesvos was a different story. Out of the whole battalion (290-410 men, depending on various factors and not including Parmenion) there was a group of less than 20 people that were totaly on their balls. Didn't care about shit, regardless of how much jail they got. But these people aside the other 95% were great lads. Our ypodioikitis was a frog and our dioikitis a marine, hard but fair bastards, and ran the place very well. The captians were very competent and serious, very high training and discipline. Guys that you are confident to follow into battle. Overall excellent discipline, continious training, good morale, very high rediness, fairly good living conditions (food was good and imimeres/timitikes fairly good, that's about it), and good hospitals and doctors (though medics were short). I would sleep good at night if I was thinking of Lesvos safety. It would take a force of easily over 80.000 to even think about assaulting Lesvos. Only thing I'd like more is to see a battery of TOR's to compliment our OSA's and provide additional defence, more spare parts, more dapanes for upkeep, and lots of personal protective equipment. If we did that, IMO, the game would be over before it begins.
