Title: Singularity

Most scientists agree that singularity wil occur half way in the next century. This event is a radical change that will occur only once, thus the name singularity. It is of great value for the history of mankind, the earth and perhaps our solar system and the universe.

Singularity is the moment, mankind is at a point where we have reached our own pysical limits to control science, technology, economy, and other aspects of life. Singularity will probably occur in the event mankind has created A.I. or A.C.

After the moment of Singularity, the scientific, technological and economic developments (and probably many other aspects of human life) will rapidly progress on its own, beyond the capabilities of the human mind. Mankind will have no more control over the various developments nor what these developments will result to.

Some scientists fear that Singularity will result in the extinction of the human race, as they might become inferior. However the theory of Singularity is that its allmost unstopable. The only way to stop Singularity from happening is a Nuclear Holocaust as this would stop the development of human civilization. If Singularity means the end of the Human Era, ironically a Nuclear Holocaust would be our only salvation :blink:

Singularity could also mean a technocratic utopia, as it might solve most of our problems from a scientific/technological perspective. However since we will loose our grip on its development, our relationship with the society in post Singularity is highly questionable.

Some scientist argue that the human race will evolve into the post-human stage; a hybrid of man and machine, or a genetic enhanced human or some other form, so we can still be the primary element in the society of post Singularity.

We arent able to predict what will happen in post Singularity, it is even impossible according to its theory. But certainly it's a Pandora's Box for the Human race.

Others, most notably Raymond Kurzweil, have proposed theories expanding Moore's law into types of computation beyond normal transistors, suggesting an exponential pattern of technological progress persisting throughout human history and even before the beginning of life on Earth. This pattern, he predicts, culminates in extreme technological progress in the 21st century, leading the replacement of biological life by more advanced forms of intelligence. Technologies Which May Take us to Singularity:

* Computer software endowed with heuristic algorithms
* Artificial entities generated by evolution within computer systems
* Integration of the human nervous system and computer hardware
* Blending of humans and computers with user interfaces
* Dynamically organizing computer networks

------------------

:blink: Damn! If that happens, we will ironically end up like the Borg, rather than the Federation. :( :shocked:

Yes there are many scinece fiction movies, where singularity has happend or is happening. Especially anime movies use this topic often. I highly recommend the episode "2nd Rennaisannce" of the movie the Animatrix as this is takes place during the event of Singularity. Also Akira is taking place in such event.

But overall all these are extremely fictional. You see, the thing about Singularity is, that it is beyond human potential, so it's almost impossible for us to comprehend and predict what events would take place in such an event.
