We are awaiting the arrival of the 7th generation of home entertainment systems in the next console wars. XBOX 360 will be first on the market, to be expected around November. The XBOX 360 is next gen console with powerfull hardware and smooth graphics, but Microsoft especially hopes to sell as many units as possible in order to take the market over from market leader Sony Playstation. The XBOX 360 will initially cost about 300 Dollars or Euro's.
Sony will bring out its console, Playstation 3 (PS3) about 4 months to half a year later. The PS3 will have the revolutionary cell processor which will result in better quality graphics than the XBOX 360, its floating point capability (indicates computer performence) is roughly double that of the XBOX 360. Together with over 100 games that will be initially available for the PS3 (http://ps3.ign.com/articles/651/651540p1.html), it is ready for the competition. The PS3 will cost roughly 400 dollars or Euro's.
Then there is Nintendo, the oldest surviving gaming console company. It's new product, Nintendo Revolution will arrive in late 2006. Unlike Microsoft and Sony, Nintendo has focussed its efforts in the experience of the gaming rahter than the engine performance or the graphics. Especially its controller will be revolutionary, ableing the gamer change the look of perspective, simply by twisting its controller rather then having to press a button.
Overall gamers are awaiting the next generation of gaming experiences and ofcourse empty wallets
