Title: When will the forum "open up" to guests?
digenis - June 27, 2005 03:18 PM (GMT)
I'm asking because I am selfish. :)
The search engines (including Google) cannot crawl through the articles posted on the forum. This means that there is no way of finding an older thread and continue it with an update.
When will "guests" be able to read all articles without having to register? I also think that such a change would result in increased membership.

This forum consistently has some of the most intellegent responses to topics. If people google and find them, surely they would join us.
Mind you, some sections should still be for members only.

I m not involved in such things, but in order not to leave this without reply anymore,i 'd say that we ll probably have to wait for Lord to come back to take such decisions with Modus. As you might have noticed Lord hasn't been in the forum lately.

Welcome back Lord! I noticed you logged on today after some time away (I'm sure you were busy with work). Since you are back, can you and Modus consider opening up the forum?
Lord - August 1, 2005 06:25 PM (GMT)
Oh yes we talked about it with Modus and the mod team...and soon we will bring up our thoughts...and concerns... ;)

Just a little side note... The Philosophy forum does not appear when viewing as a guest (not logged in). ;)

Just in case this issue is still being considered, I will have to support Spartan and Digenis positions on this matter. Its kind of a shame to have this beautiful site with excellent members, and we can't share it with everyone for whatever reason. I've personaly wanted to have thins site indexed on all major engines a very long time ago... Being open to guests would make it more tempting for those that find us to want to join/participate.
Best regards,
-Yiorgos

PS just to make it very clear, I support Spartans idea that some areas should still only be for members. I understand that trolling is a main issue, but I also understand that we have 1) excellent members witch tend to keep bullshiters away, and 2) excellent mods/ISS which, with vigilant members would most quickly id and eliminate trolling.
Cheers again,

Dear George
I want only to inform on some matters...
It is in our conserns that the Forum grows...
But in no way we want to decrease the level of quality that we gained...(believe me it was difficould enough to control "kakes sinithies tou parelthontos" transl.something like bad behaviour from the past)
Till now we have reached some goals...that we wanted..
such as..
The total trust between us (administration) ...
Of corse sometimes even we Gods make mistakes (jk)
But in the end we manage to find a balance witch allways helped the WCF not to lose its way...
we go step by step...which means opening the forum step by step...and if we feel that the security of our members and our common project is secure (and there peace ) is ok...
You see alot of things are allways discussed among us...but as i said step by step...and of corse the forum isnt a firm that quick decission have to be taken...
we dont have antagonists...which we have to fight
or for the sake of quantity to lose the quality...
It is better to learn by visitiing a forum than allways to fight and make redicioulos statements...
as you saw we didnt copy any forum nor did we take members by "force" or by advertising...anyone is welcomed as long he stays respectfull...
and soon enough you will see some new feature in the WCF... ;)
Sincerly

Dear Lord and other Big Bosses,
I am too of the opinion that, WCF, for me the best of its Kind, is one helluva forum, that really deserves more attention from other people.
That being said, such a change would dramatically increase the workload of the "bosses" , synchronizedly the quality of the posts shall be diminished.
A balance should be stroke between these two opinions, however lets do it, when the time is ripe !!! :headbang:
I love this forum :duel:

Hadn't we a discussion about this before ?
Well i think that we shouldn't follow the slogan "More is better"....i'm afraid that if we open the forum to foreigners to easy we well face problems like at WAFF and i don't think that anyone who remembers that times wish similiar ones here.
Thermopyles - October 2, 2005 12:04 AM (GMT)
Kizir,
I don't think anyone here is saying more topics or volume is better. I think what were are saying is more access is better. As I understand it, this place does intend to have some influence due to its credibility and thoroughness. That, mates, is a double edge sword. To recruit people that will further this intention, we must be broader in access. Of course that means more people to filter through, but it also means a larger pool of potentialy very contributive/influenced members/people.
To get the influence and attention that this forum is after and deserves, IMHO, we should not be limited to membership "by reffereal only", but for people that are looking for exactly this type of site.
OK Lord/Modus I'm done :P Kserete paidares pos ta logia mou mono apo agapi vgenoun...

Gents...
No Bros...better
The Administration is really working on it...soon enough we will have the structur that we will provide to all of you...for a better and improved WCF...
Thanks to all of you...
