Tolkien is one of my favorite writers. His fantasybooks are so amazing and interesting. LotR-trilogy is/are absolutely my favorite book/s.

I've read LotR, The Hobbit, Silmarillion (partly... lost my patient) and Farmer Giles of Ham and they're very good books :)

You should try them. The movie(trilogy) is great but the book is better...
