Title: Retiring From Sotw

Arohkien - February 19, 2008 11:43 PM (GMT)
I'm regretful to say this, but I am officially thinking of leaving SotW for good. There are several factors that really play into this, but the main thing is, and the important one that is causing me to most likely leave the site is that its just doesn't hold that fun factor anymore. Ive grown up with SotW from the beginning, and the fact that it was a more natural role playing site was made it fun, unpredictable and, well, spontaneous. The fact that the idea of plots, and the general insertion of site wide plots is what really started to dampen the fun. Yes its fun for sometime to have plots, I mean I've done a few, but comparing now to back then, it has become a chore, a complete reversal of this site. Ive went to several other sites that are role play based, and there are not any plots or site wide ideas of having a certain thing happen and having an already decided fate, especially as some of my friends have said, "Changing the characters personality for the plot". I cant just continue role playing as a chore, as something I have going on behind me really drives me insane, and its making it a lot harder to even WANT to post because of this. I made Arohkien leave the Amarth and get the concussion because, well i was trying to avoid that stupid plot-no offense- that has taken a hold of this site. It had killed SotW in my opinion, and this tyrannous plot making has been doing so for the past year or so.

I could remember when I couldn't wait to come home, and get to this site to see what was replied to my characters, hell i had multiple characters because it was so damn fun. But when the idea of plots came along and everyone started pumping out ideas, it restricted the freedom of the role play. Yes I know you could opt out of a plot idea, but everyone else is pretty much in it, so it makes it feel like your missing all the fun, but in reality your just experience the side effect of plots. Yea its alright to have a plot idea that open ended, like say "Okay I'm gonna go and get this character to try and over throw this ones power" But keep it quiet! Don't let the site know, maybe a few friends who are in league with you, but it seriously kills everything. It changing the chat from speculation of whats gonna happen next to your character and the interesting chats of the going ons in the site, to a dull chat, and pointless blabber. In all areas of the site, it had seriously took a major toll on this site. I tried staying out of closed ended plots and such, but it makes it so much harder to role play with everyone else as there in it. For example, my rp with Kisu, yea we had an idea of what we could do, but kept it wide open, but since of the billions of plots going on and the loss of so many talented role players, it makes it just that harder to put out a post. I want to post but it feels like a chore and makes the content crap. Just plain out boring as it is just empty and the need for multiple characters posting one to two full fledge material that I could have a field day with, now its that factor of just "Oh god I hope I can get this post out for my friend" then end up not posting and leave them hanging. Its terrible on the conscious but i Just cant deal with posting or taking part of a game I have no interest in anymore. I know everyone starts off as a one-two liner, but lately i haven't seen much improvement. I know this may be insulting to some, but I'm sorry. I thought I will tell the truth of my departure, not lie to you. I'm a very honest guy, but i can be brutally honest, and this is its moment.

Soul of the Wild was once a great site now it really has it down and I'm afraid ill be taking my leave. I need a site that can meet my needs and thirsts for deep and time taken care of posts, not "Okay I'm gonna get this out in like 2 minutes!" And let it be total crap, the role play standards have really dropped and a lot of people don't take care in there posts anymore. When I post, I put a lot of time and effort into it, hoping everyone would return the favor of the time spent into a post, but most cant, and i can understand that. And unfortunately professional role play isn't that big because a lot of people don't have the time to write a meaningful post. Take in example Loex Kepesk, a great site at first, had good full fledge several paragraph role play, yes it takes longer but its more enjoyable for everyone, and thats what I need now. I redid the site several times but unfortunately dragon role playing isn't that popular. Think of it a bird learning to fly the world but feels caged in its nest.

Adieu for now, may pop my head in sometime now and then. Ill be here for a few more days, to get out my final post of Arohkien and Camraithe, then Ill be gone for good. I loved all the role plays I've took part in and Ill sorely miss those who have come to know me pretty well.

*Sobs*

I'm sotty you feel that way Aroh.

I hope that you can find a site that you will enjoy as much as you did this one, plots can be hard sometimes, and I do agree that big ones tend to get in the way, I've had a site die from it. I hope that you have fun wherever you go, I never even really got the chance to know you very well, but if this is how it must be then,

Farwell Aroh! You will be missed!

I agree with you, Caleb. I miss the old days when roleplaying was for fun, plotless and effortless. Now it just takes too long to work up the want to even start a post. You will be missed my dear friend. See you on the MSN <3

*chains to SotW* Don't leave!!! Please!!! You aren't the only one who feels this way. I've been gone for a good many months due to no internet, but this has been a problem for some time. I say, instead of leaving, we fix this problem and try to restore SotW to what it once used to be.

I say that we should just delete the plot section. And as for any site wide plots still going on, I say we all find a quick way of putting an end to them.

I won't be able to come back til late march-late April, so I can't do too much with helping to fix this...so it's up to the rest of you to keep our dear SotW alive. Tlon, Arohkien, Agrats, Kisu, Zita...all you oldies who remember what SotW used to be like, please don't give up on it. Please don't just let it keep going on like it is...going further and further down the drain.

I won't be able to get back on for some time...but whenever I do come back I promise I will do everything i can to help get this site back into a fun, spontaneous RPG site. Just please, in the meantime, don't give up on it. I really don't want to return to find all you great RPers gone.

With much, much love,
~Kristen (A.K.A. Kiowa/Dezba/Kiwidinok)

Well. You can leave if you want to, no one's stopping you, though I assume the vast majority of people don't want you to. Now yes, we just met. TECHNICALLY. But, so we've discovered, I've known you for a while. Probably since I was 11 or 12, which is like... -counts- about 5 or 6 years. SO HAH. =P

Anyways, all in all, I don't like the plot thing either. I liked the old chatzone days were we just roleplayed whatever, and it just kind of blossomed into some beautiful story.

I feel the same, about posting being a chore, and about some not learning. Perhaps, through example we could lead. Be there and actually do something. Eliminate predetermined plotting... I can understand being like "LETS TRY AND MAKE FLUFFY MY WOLF'S MATE". But not like... actually doing it. The whole fun in it is trying to make it happen without other people noticing.

SOOOOO. As I said before, if you choose to leave, I won't stop you, but I will still bug you on MSN and make you roleplay with me. You're a cool guy and everyone should like you. And if they don't they're not cool enough to like you. Pshaw.

Liah

EDIT: and just to make you happy Aroh, you can use a wrench.

Tlon - February 20, 2008 09:34 AM (GMT)
Eh, we were discussing rounding off this plot. xP. It's done the exact opposite of what we had hoped, that si dull activity rather then boost. It'll be nice to get things back to how they were~

I'll miss ya Aroh, and you know it. Hopefully see you soon, mmkay? <3

I remember almost a year back, SOTW was starting to feel the effects of an almost dying site. The only reason was due to a lack of members, or the lack of time its members had to post. The whole plot was an idea thrown together to bring life back to dear SOTW.

For a short time, I don't know if it was caused by the plot or just the random chance of people finding this site, something started working. We gained a few new members, and the excitement of bringing back SOTW from a growing stage of inactivity as well as the idea of a plot encouraged people to start posting again.

But I can't say I'm not on your side. This boost of energy was short-lived, and it has indeed become more of a chore then a thing of enjoyment to post. I often find myself sitting around my house doing absolutely NOTHING, feeling guilty when I'm due for a post and haven't gotten around to it because it is about as amusing as writing some dumb essay for school.

Yeah, we gained a few new members and as of right now, most of all of the SOTW members are still here on this site. But at the rate the plot is holding our creativity back, SOTW and it's members are going to keep suffering. Perhaps if we can find a way to end it quickly, rather then drag out the rest of the pre-planned story, we can save people from feeling the same way as dear Aro here.

Ending the plot soon could end the stress now of having to constantly post if you are involved in the plot, or bring back your activity and fun if you aren't involved in it. Alas, it could also open up the opportunity to end the plot quickly in a completely new, unplanned way.

Please Aro, don't leave just yet. It appears as though the people who have already replied to this message, including myself, are about as excited to follow through with this plot as you. The thing is, if none of us are enjoying it anymore, why should we continue on with it? Perhaps we could just end this thing, and save SOTW while we still can...

I know I haven't been here as long as quite a few of you (Hence the list Kristen has made, including herself), but I've still been here for a couple years nonetheless and although I've been rping for much longer then that, SOTW has always been my favorite of rp sites. I don't want to see it fall apart for such reasons as people growing tired of a plot. I never really got to see how fun this site was before I joined, but I'd still like to. We can keep this site from losing its members, we just have to do something about it, now...

Having only been here for a few short months, I still completely understand how you guys feel. When, by chance, I stumbled across this site and read some of the posts, and spoke to some of the members, I just couldn't wait to get in on some action!

Of course, like the rest of you, I feel very differently about the site now. But as Kristen put it, we shouldn't just give up on the site. There must be a way it can be restored to what it once was, at least I hope so, I would like the chance to get to know you guys better as well as RP with you...so far, I haven't really had that chance.

Aroh, I do hope you'll reconsider. That being said, the choice is yours. And I wish you all the best.

That is IT I am KILLING Larion and I don't care what anybody else has to say about it. I'm going to let everything unravel in a completely unplanned explosion of characters doing what characters do.

I could not agree more with Arohkien, and I feel my idea is to blame, so I will kill it gleefully.

If you do not return, Aroh, I wish you well and tell you you will be deeply missed. :( But if you do come back, we'll love to have you ! :D

So yes. Larion's going to fumble and die in this fight, and I have no idea what happens. It's up to the wolves. I'm done making big plots.

Hoorah for spontaneity!

noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo :o

Faia - February 21, 2008 11:02 PM (GMT)
As a member who joined around the time that the plot was just getting kicked off (I believe Larion had just attacked the Din 'dea and taken down Tlon...? that was a looong months ago!), I can confirm that it is most likely by pure chance that members find the site.

Quite honestly, plots have really nothing to do with it. They don't draw in members really, or make people want to join more. If anything, its just an "oh, theres a plot. okay. too bad I'm too late to join in on the fun.." so you join and see how things roll out. Thats just how it is. If you wanted to see the plot, you could just come back and read up like its a big storybook. The thing that draws members in is the experience. SOTW is one of the easiest to find and most popular roleplays out here, and no matter how everything works out, I'm proud to be a member of the site.

Blah blah blah, I'm ranting again. Whatevs.

Kisu - February 24, 2008 12:23 AM (GMT)
*hugs* DON'T LEAAAAAVE! :crybaby:

I'm honestly too stressed and scattered to make an eloquent post, but I'm really going to miss you around man....really. You were here when I first joined, and you've always been there for me, not only in RP but also in life. I hope we can keep talking on IM and such (whenever my stupid computer isn't being...well stupid XP)
