Name: Helnwein
Age: Three years
Gender: Male
Pack: Loner
Position: N/A
Appearance:
He has rather large paws that consist mostly of brown and white, although including several streaks of light, sometimes hardly noticeably grey. One particularly noteworthy feature is his right hind paw, which is missing two toes as a result of a scuffle that occurred in the past. His legs are long and slender, and all four include many shades of grey and brown, though the forelegs are more predominantly white. His body's general appearance is rather normal and common; not scrawny but, at the same time, not particularly muscular. His back consists of quite a high amount of shades of grey and medium-brown, which intersect and form no definable pattern. Some of those streaks of darker shades stretch down onto his flanks, which consist mostly of the same colors, but in lighter shades and including more white sections. His entire underside is mostly white, although a few vertical rings of brown, which start at his back, stretch down and curve to finally come to a stop at various points on his stomach. His muzzle is long and consists mostly of brown and white, whereas the rest of his face is also rather light in color, although the top of his head bears a nearly crown-like sections of fur, which is brown with some grey mixed in. The inside fur of his ears is beige, whereas the backs of the ears are mostly grey. His eyes are golden with a bit of a brownish tint, although mostly consisting of the previously mentioned shade. His pelt is somewhere between well groomed and scruffy; by no means the most beautiful and elegant thing ever, but not horribly tattered.
Personality:
Many would not expect him to be as fierce and merciless as he is, for he bears a calm and collected demeanor. His typical facial expression is, though not necessarily blank of expressionless, neutral and, to those whom he dislikes, it often includes hints of arrogance and even mockery. He tends to treat others not the way he wants to be treated, but the way they treat him. If another is polite and decent towards him, he generally returns the favor, but only if he truly does appreciate them. Of course, on the other hand, he doesn't believe that the rude and unruly deserve anything other than to have their behavior returned to them. Therefore, virtually anyone who gets on his bad side will be treated like dirt by him, unless instinctual and etiquette-related restraints keep him from doing so. For that reason, among others, it is quite true to consider him respectful, at least towards those to whom he owes admiration. His personality could be considered hateful, for he is firmly against quite a few things - such as murdering the innocent and lack of free will - though not necessarily biased. Some things that he actually likes include the sight of lightning - provided that he is safe from it - and, quite surprisingly, gazing at the night sky and the stars. He isn't particularly bloodthirsty, but doesn't hesitate to participate in or initiate battle if it is his most reasonable option.
History:
One would be rather correct to consider him something of an anti-hero; a savior of himself and several others who never intended to become such a thing. He was born into a pack run by a power-crazed alpha, and the way it was run was considered by Helnwein's father to be a disgusting display of overdone fascism. The rather headstrong male wasn't going to stand for that any longer, and so, under his lead, the entire pack rebelled and rallied against their ruler, who was driven from power and from the lands. Soon after that, he chose his mate, and the result was a litter of four pups. However, it turned out that one was a stillborn, and so two females and one male survived. They were soon dubbed Marickia, Ailaea, and Helnwein. The first few weeks of their lives were normal, and in fact, so was the entire first year. They were cared for and watched closely and adoringly by each member of the pack, the three pups got along well, and no tragic deaths occurred. They departed from home at the age of one year, as was normal. The three of them traveled together for a short amount of time, but soon decided to go their separate ways. Helnwein's choice was to venture far from home in search of new lands and a new place to stay.
Unfortunately, that plan didn't go so well, and since he was so unaccustomed to life as a loner, he was weakened quickly and nearly starved to death. At one point, he even passed out from fatigue and hunger - and at that point, he was found by another pack. They took him in and led him on the path back to health. Once he was strong again, they decided to welcome him as a new member. There was one in particular, a female, who tended to speak to him more than the others did, and successfully attempted to befriend him. He eventually learned from one of the others in the pack that she suffered from extreme emotional issues due to a bad past and low self-confidence. At that point, he came to terms with the fact that he hadn't necessarily been returning the friendship she showed towards him, although he had never been unkind to her. However, he quickly began his mission to increase her confidence, complimenting and creating friendly conversation with her as often as possible. Despite his efforts, nothing seemed to work, and he fell into his own personal state of sorrow, believing that he was useless. She, in turn, realized this, and so began the process of mutual emotional healing. Now that they both needed each other more than ever, now that they could understand each other's pain, they were both able to help each other rise out of their depressions.
So began the good times. Life became something that was still difficult, due to the typical wolven conditions, but it always seemed much more possible than it had ever been before. Just when things were going wonderfully, and the two were beginning to fall in love, a terrible flood struck the lands that the pack lived upon. Everything was thrown into instant turmoil, and everyone was separated. Helnwein immediately began to search for the female whom he cared about the most, risking his own life and evading dangerous floodwaters in the process. During his search, he shoved one of the subordinates, who was paralyzed with fear, out of the way of the approaching current of water in a random 'heroic' deed. He also found a pup from the current litter huddling behind a tree, as if it would provide any sort of protection from the water, and carried him to higher ground. Then the mission to find the wolfess was resumed, but then he was swept away by the force of the main water current and, as he struggled to stay above ground, carried away from his home. It was hopeless. He turned his back on the packlands, stricken not by sorrow, but by anger, at himself and at nature. This tragic event molded his current, rather menacing personality, which still remains during his search for a new life.
