Title: Fighting
Description: my first RPing fight *gulps*

Miakoda - August 13, 2005 03:39 AM (GMT)
It seems that Miakoda might just get into a fight very soon and I have never RPed a fight before.

Would someone give me some tips/advice?

And maybe someone could point out a really bad example of a fight so I know what NOT to do and then point out a really good example so I know what TO do.

Thank you very, very much

Possibly the best thing you can do is read through the fighting guidelines again, seeing as it has examples and so on.

The biggest tip I can give you is to go into as much detail as possible - and what I find helps me personally is to actually visualise where exactly your wolves are throughout the fight, it should make it easier to work out whether a dodge or a counterattack is feasible. I'm not sure about other fight mods, but I know that when I judge fights I'm careful to imagine the scene exactly as described in my head and actually play things out to see how plausible it all is! Of course, this is where a lot of description can really help you.

Just to elaborate on what I mean about a dodge or a counterattack being feasible - I'll show you a very exaggerated example (each post should really be longer than this in a fight but I'm just doing this to show the theory of what I mean):

Namir snarled as he faced the brindled male before him, eyes looking for weaknesses. He lowered his bloodied maw, protecting his throat, before circling sharply, aiming to sink teeth into Dusky's left shoulder...

And here is an example of what not to do:

Dusky dodged Namir's attack by spinning to the left...

Of course, it's good - very good to explain which direction your wolf is moving in - but some thought needs to be put into that, because in this case, to appropriately dodge, Dusky would need to move anywhere but left, where the attack is coming from!

I'm not saying, of course, that you'd make a slip like that, just trying to show how useful actually visualising what's going on is by using an obvious example. And you probably knew it already and I'm just waffling annoyingly - if so, sorry about that!

Anyway. I'm sure your fight will turn out just fine, I wouldn't worry too much about it. Probably the safest thing to do would be checking up on the guide I posted above and simply remembering to use as much accurate description as possible, and everything will work out great!
