Name: Elmira Evaristus
Sex: Female
Age: 42
Occupation: Active Slayer stationed in Port Nirav; sells medicinal herbs and concoctions
Status & Rank: Peasant/Slayer; former noble
Roots & Origin: The older sister of High Commander Hadrian Evaristus, who was abducted by the Slayers and taken in as one of their own. As aforementioned in Hadrian’s profile, their mother was a simple village woman who gained the title of Lady Marquess when she married their father. Her father is of House Taran, albeit distantly related to the Royal Family of Olencia.
Appearance: Elmira is a quiet, stately woman of slight limbs and pale complexion. What is noticeable about her is that her shoulder-length curls of white hair that frames and cascades her beautiful face in such compliment. She stands well over at five foot six.
She is usually seen in flowing sleeveless gowns that go along with her slim figure. She prefers to wear light pastel colors that seem to intensify her unnatural paleness. She might look deceivingly frail, but she pack a powerful punch enough to knock out an average-sized man when needed.
Her eyes are a unique gray like her younger brother’s, her lips quite full, her nose just right. She keeps some curls of her hair out her eyes by a simple wooden clip at the back of her head. She sometimes braids some gorgeous roses or two in her hair when she feels like it. She always carries a small leather scrip with paper and some writing things in it.
One may easily discern Elmira’s age if they look closely; she has very fine wrinkles around the eyes already.
Strengths:
~Her best ability is her knowledge of medicinal herbs and her talent in making them into various other forms to aid in physical injuries and even some serious ailments. She has this uncanny touch that makes any medicine she makes almost always work. Innate talent.
~Elmira plays the flute quite well; everyone who hears her music is said to be enchanted and seem to forget their troubles for the time being. Flute-playing had always been her passion, companion and solace since she was taken from her family all those years ago.
~She can stare down people if she wants to. She has this hidden (and surprising) aura of authority. However Elmira does not usually revert to this, for she is a passive woman and would very much rather keep to herself.
~Like all full-pledged Slayers, she was trained to keep collected thinking under pressure.
Weaknesses:
~ Elmira is mute. While she can communicate to people by using the writing things she always brings along, there is always the hardship of making them see what her point is exactly.
~She is a fairly weak Slayer, just about toeing the Average rating in terms of magical talent and manipulation.
~She is sentimental and easily saddened when reminded of her failures and her losses.
~She is greatly terrified of dragons and would refuse to recount her trial at the Dragonlands. Any further attempts on this is usually merited by Elmira walking out on the person asking the question.
~She loves her plants and flowers and would not hesitate to hit anyone messing up her pots and baskets of them.
~She is no different from most of the Slayers who would always put forward others’ welfares first before thinking of themselves. Like her Ablest Master Penril, she too is a lonely existence.
Magic: Like what we have mentioned before, Elmira is weak, and it is considered a great miracle of the three suns when she came back from the Dragonlands alive. She can only do so much as to levitate four big boulders of rock. She concentrates what meager magic she has into making her medicines work instead.
Personality:
It seems that she and her younger brother resemble each other a bit, even in personality. Like Hadrian, Elmira too is a loner, preferring the organized tumult of the Slayer’s Keep or the loud silence of her shack home in one of Port Nirav’s busy streets.
Elmira will always spend her time making her medicine, or else reading a few easy books she acquired from downtown Nirav. She likes her music and plays the flute to ease a frazzled nerve or two.
She is the kind of person who always has time to look around and smell the roses. She listens well, a seemingly innate trait for every Slayer. However she too has her grief and bitterness inside.
Even until now, Elmira has never really gotten over her old family. She is still mourning for the large toll the trip to the Dragonlands had taken on her, the loss of her ability to speak forever a part of it.
She has taken to heart the Slayer burden of abstaining from love, and is quite fine living by herself.
History:
In their earliest days, Elmira and Hadrian were inseparable. Of the four siblings, she and Hadrian were the closest of the lot. While gentle and sweet little Elmira loved her other siblings, it was with Hadrian that she related the most. They were often playing together, learning to read together and taking care of their sickly younger sister together.
Which was why it was Hadrian she missed the most when just after her 10th nameday, she was taken by a Slayer in the middle of the night. She has lost contact with her loving family for thirty-two years hence.
The first few years in the Keep were hard for Elmira. She was one of two students of Slayer Dersine. The other student was a girl named Marina. Elmira was almost always crying in the first few weeks of her new life in the Keep. Slayer Dersine tried her best to explain that being Slayer was going to be Elmira’s life now, and that she must accept it as her destiny. The little girl adamantly refused.
Little Elmira tried to escape from the Barrier several times, but the dangers of the Barrier ranges presented their dangers to her, and she would have died in the mountains if Slayer Dersine hadn’t arrived in time to snatch her away from Valleran’s grip in the last crucial minutes.
Her master nursed her back to health, and during those three agonizing weeks, the little girl somehow came to the understanding that she could not see her family if she did not learn how to become a Slayer and protect herself with magic while she made the journey home. So she decided to listen to Slayer Dersine and study with Marina.
Elmira grew to be a silent young woman. She was the type of girl who watched others afar. She held personages in silent admiration, particularly the more ‘attractive’ apprentices like Sezerix and Master Zruti’s personal favorite, Penril. She was so quiet that most of the Slayers and the other apprentices didn’t even know her name until Slayer Dersine introduced her to them.
Over time Marina, Elmira’s first and only friend apart from her mentor, distanced herself. Marina was then sent to the Dragonlands. She did not return. Elmira grieved for her sometime friend. Her own ability to sense magic did not manifest itself until she was nineteen winters old, and even then, Slayer Dersine was disappointed for she was a weak one. Dersine doubted Elmira would make it back alive from the Dragonlands.
Still, Elmira learned from Dersine’s tutelage. Her mentor taught her a little music (hence her love for flute playing) and a little dance. She also decided to teach Elmira how to use her meager magic – by using it to imbue herbal medicine she could create and therefore have her own way of doing good for the people of Olencia. Elmira was interested in the whole affair, and became a good, hardworking student.
Finally she was sent to the Dragonlands at her twenty-eighth nameday.
It had to be the darkest moment in Elmira’s life. The journey alone and the battle with the dragon itself forced her to use magic in its very limits, thus bleaching her black curls white and taking her voice. Since then she had lost the ability to speak, and her curls remained silvery white. She made it back to the Keep, barely alive.
She was comatose for the next eight years, only the magic of the Slayers in the Keep keeping her alive in the hopes that she might wake again. When she awoke, much had happened. However Dersine rejoiced and told her that she was a full-pledged Slayer now.
After making sure that she was fit to go back to the world again, Elmira requested that she be stationed somewhere she can use her medicine for the good of Olencia. So they assigned her to Port Nirav.
For six years since, Elmira lived quietly in the Calendae capital as a healer. Until recently, she thought about her family again. For sure they would have passed her off for dead already. She quietly packed a few things in her leather scrip and for the first time in six years, her house was closed to the sick and ailing.
She was going back to Olencia.
Nice. XD
I think the Keep can only accept one last Slayer for now... can't have too many of us... :D
I hope you get approved!
Well.. three masters would be enough for now... We'll be needing apprentices next time around though -_-
Oooooh, me likey. :D
Approved.
I'll put somewhere that we're not accepting any more Slayer Masters for the time being......
Unless our Ablest wishes otherwise.
