Title: Plans

*points to Green Sludge...and Mush*
An idea occurred to me that it would be nice if we all helped each other out and made a sort of 'Monster Encyclopedia in Olencia'. Not only would this be helpful for our future RPs and future members, it'd be a chance to let everybody's creative juices flow.
Thoughts?
Elwin Markial - July 19, 2006 10:44 AM (GMT)
Lemme do the dragon bestiary... I'll just make some up and all and poof.. (just gimme a day or two, still has prelim exams comming up)
Sezerix Valhalus - July 19, 2006 11:07 AM (GMT)
Soudns pretty good actually. I wouldn't mind helping out. Maybe a few members should be given jobs of different types of monsters.
Hadrian Evaristus - July 19, 2006 11:09 AM (GMT)
Penril Tanith - July 19, 2006 11:17 AM (GMT)
Maybe I should deliberate on the kinds of Wurms. XD
Elwin Markial - July 19, 2006 11:39 AM (GMT)
Wurms, as in the ones in Frank Herbert's Dune?
Penril Tanith - July 19, 2006 12:09 PM (GMT)
Sort of?
What I had in mind were crosses of Argiopes and Hodes... (Ragnarok Online, d00d. XD )
Rhys Horsehand - July 19, 2006 12:17 PM (GMT)
I'm afraid I'm not terribly knowledgeable about made-up creatures, but if you give me something to research between now and Saturday, I could always help. Just figure out what you want to assign me, and I'll make an entry for the Monster Encyclopedia.
Penril Tanith - July 19, 2006 12:28 PM (GMT)
Undead, maybe? Are we allowed those kind of nutters?
Oriana Lark - July 19, 2006 12:54 PM (GMT)
Oo, this would be lovely! If you all would like to start and plan, I'll just oversee...
The only information we have really put out on our beasties is that --> all monsters currently reside in the Dragonlands (esp. the dragons and the Slayers use them as a test). This is excepting the Ice beasts that reside on the Forgotten Island and the serpents in the sea. :)
And it would be interesting if the "undead" were the Slayers who did not make it out of the Dragonlands.
Tsuko Theras - July 19, 2006 01:08 PM (GMT)
Don't forget the mighty creature known only as OGDDMO!!!!!!!!!!! :o
Sounds good, perhaps I'd contribute some but I'm volunteering at this summer learning type thing for small children which takes up my day from 8:30-4:00 (B
Antonym Rite - July 19, 2006 02:24 PM (GMT)
Ooh i'll do something if you like :3 icy sea creatures could be my forte.
Rhys Horsehand - July 19, 2006 06:17 PM (GMT)
Undead it is! What I know right now about Undead is that they're Slayers that never made it back from the Dragonlands...Maybe they'll even look like the Slayers they were, just to make things interesting!
Can they use magic? I'm assuming the only reason Slayers are undead is because they had magic before they died, unlike the regular magic-less schmoes who keel over and stay that way. Though I suppose that would mean people who had magic but hadn't been "discovered", like Antonym right now, would be undead when they died, too (Maybe that's just another very good reason for Slayers to find everyone while they're alive?). I guess some sort of burial rights could be preformed to keep the dead from becoming undead, but maybe they aren't standard all around Olencia?
Interesting. I'll post a draft later today.
Antonym Rite - July 19, 2006 09:17 PM (GMT)
That's a great idea! x3 it'd be a problem if an "Undiscovered" died, then they wandered about their funeral the next day. And if only Slayers and Apprentices knew about the Magic ---> Undead thingy... hrmmm. I think the Undead should be able to use limited magic, with little control too. And. Erm. I don't want to die x.x
Shem Adare - July 19, 2006 09:47 PM (GMT)
I'd be willing to help out. I was obsessed with sea-serpenty things for a little while in sixth grade and wrote a (kinda crappy) research paper on dragons last year.
So if whoever's coordinating the encyclopedia needs a hand, PM me and I'll write something up.
Penril Tanith - July 19, 2006 10:20 PM (GMT)
I'll do some stray monsters of course, like the Wurms... and maybe some called cliff-ghasts - ghouls that reside in mountains and cliffs, etc.
This weekend, because I have a heap of exams piled up upon me.
Rhys Horsehand - July 20, 2006 01:04 AM (GMT)
Okay, here is the first draft of the "Undead" entry. This does violate the rule that monsters don't appear outside the Dragonlands, but it does imply Undead don't often appear outside them. Besides, I figure an Undead terrorizing a village or a lonely highway might make for good Slayer quests in the future. If the Overlords object, then of course, I can just have Slayer Apprentices who failed to return from their quest become Undead (though I think that would be a little less interesting).
__________________________________________________________________
Olenican Undead are the spiritual form, possibly the souls, of people with magic who have died, but were not given burial rights. Legend and science in Olencia have different conclusions as to how they are formed and why, but the fact remains that if one ventures into the Dragonlands, where Slayer Apprentices too often die, then one had better be prepared to face an Undead.
Legend has it that Valleran rejects the strongest Slayers from his realm, fearing they would ban together and usurp his power. Instead, he sends them back to Olencia in their spiritual form, described as being “ghost blue” and “transparent”. At this point, however, he and the Earth Goddess disagree; she feels no threat from dead Slayers, and accepts their bodies into the Earth. Hence, Olencian Undead have no bodies, but are insubstantial, if exact, images of the bodies that used to be. Undead have limited magical powers, but as they are no longer of the living, they cannot draw from live things. Hence, one of the easiest ways to avoid being hurt by the Undead is to take a path that has no large sources of simple kinetic energy, such as through plains in the dry season, where there are no rivers and no storms from which the Undead can draw magical energy. Undead can travel through such areas, but without magic, they are harmless, and cannot hurt the living. If one must travel through regions with sources of energy for Undead, one had better come prepared with one or more of the following: Water blessed by a priest of Valleran, salt water, an infusion of hazel, catnip, or peppermint in water or oil, garlic, cucumber, or a rowan staff magically spelled for defeating the Undead. The liquids must be thrown onto the Undead to be effective, which can be quite tricky, as Undead can disappear and reappear at will. Garlic or cucumber are mainly used as a paste or in a dried, powdered form which can be sprinkled around a campsite or house to repel the Undead, though one of the aforementioned liquids will suffice, also. Small amounts of garlic or cucumber can repel or deter the Undead, but cannot defeat them unless used in large quantities impractical to keep around for all those but garlic and cucumber farmers. Rowan staffs are used mainly by Slayers themselves, and the use of one is not known to the public. To prevent a dead Slayer from becoming Undead, one can simply perform simple burial rights, which for good reason include anointing a body with one of the previously mentioned substances, traditionally on the forehead between a corpse’s eyebrows, though any place will do. However, as few villagers have magic, this step is often neglected in rural areas, leading to an Undead appearing. The very poor may also lack the means to have burial rights performed, and a person who dies alone or is murdered and hastily buried without rights obviously cannot bless themselves, also leading to appearances of the Undead.
Of course, this explanation of the Undead has a few weaknesses: It is not only the strong Slayers that become undead, but weak ones and those magic wielders cast out or undiscovered by the Slayers, and very, very occasionally, an entirely magicless person will be an Undead, and once Undead, can use magic. A Slayer may also just die and not rise again, regardless of burial rights, or lack thereof. Newly Undead may walk around with their bodies (or whatever is left of them) intact, and very old Undead may not disappear unless confronted by a Slayer, suggesting it is not entirely one’s magic, but perhaps one’s willpower, that keep one in various states of life or Undead. Furthermore, the items that can be used to defeat the Undead have no effect on the magic of the living, leaving the reason as to why they work a mystery. Finally, certain Undead simply die of their own accord, when their deaths are avenged, or will die when asked by a loved one to leave, though such instances are an exception to the rule.
Science does not often accept the idea of Undead, claiming they are hallucinations or perhaps a manifestation of a person’s need to see a loved one who has passed on. They suggest either a psychiatrist or a special potion to help people stop seeing the Undead and get on with life, though oddly enough, the potion contains equal parts garlic, peppermint, and hazel (it is also predictably foul-tasting). This view is supported by the Undead whose deaths are avenged or who die when asked to die by a family member, signifying the family member either feels things have been set to rights or has grieved sufficiently to let their self-delusions go, but as previously stated, these instances are not typical.
It is not known what Slayers think of the Undead, and while they must have their own theories and opinions on the matter as they and their kind occasionally end up Undead, they have not made them public. Slayers are also one of the few groups of people to have extensive contact with the Undead because they alone can put stubborn Undead to rest, and every so often they will persuade a substantial number of the Undead Apprentices in the Dragonlands to die, particularly when they begin appearing at or on the other side of the Barrier. Slayers alone could answer questions concerning the intactness of an undead person’s intellect or soul. However, as Slayers are few and rarely disposed to sit down and discuss such a fearsome topic with a mere Encyclopedia author, their stance on the issue is unknown, but certainly an item of curiosity.
__________________________________________________________________
The last part was added so the concept of an Undead can evolve organically through gameplay. I also made a point of having the ways one can defeat an Undead (or convince an Undead to leave) be pretty flexible so a magic-less character can protect themselves or defeat one, if there is a need. If it's too inspecific, tell me what I need to add detail or concreteness to.
I took bits and pieces from various legends of undead and spirits from around the world; the spiritual form came from Arabic legends, the color (especially the phrase "ghost blue") came from Viking folklore, and the methods of defeating undead came from Old English lore. The cucumber was something of a homage to Japanese Kappa, and I added peppermint and catnip simply because I wanted to (anything that has the power to make a cat lose its focus must work on magical spirits, too). Also note I added bits from Olencian religion, because I thought that would be appropriate (though I did make Valleran look rather insecure. I guess even gods have weaknesses). The fact that they can use magic is rather typical, but the fact they can't draw energy from the living is very much atypical. However, I thought it would be unfair for the things to be both Undead and all-powerful, so I thought I'd compensate by being a little unorthodox and not allowing them to draw energy from or be able to physically touch living things. All they can use to harm others is magic, and a ghost is obviously a little frightening to have walking about the neighborhood, particularly if there is a stream nearby from which they can draw energy.
Any suggestions for improvement or additional details would be welcomed, I look forward to seeing what you all think!

It's fantastic Rhys, I like it. :D

Draft to come. xO
Joscelyn Gedamos - July 20, 2006 07:31 PM (GMT)
Has anyone opted to take care of the Ice Beasts that roam the Forgotten Island as of yet? If not, I'd be quite willing to write up a complete description of the critters (complete with origin of the species, habits, appearances, etc, etc).
I don't want it to seem too poor in comparison to Rhys' stupendous Undead write-up. XD
Oh, following the creation of Dragons -- which I see Elwin had already volunteered to write up -- I had a question about the subject of dragons: Are people more into creating a general race, or would people like to see full-fledged characters in the case of, let's say, older more specific dragons?
Elwin Markial - July 21, 2006 12:25 AM (GMT)
I'm creating a general race and I'm half way done from finishing it (although not as well detailed as Rhy's).
But if majority will agree upon a specific character for a dragon (ie Draco from Dragon Heart :D XD :D XD ) I'll gladly make a couple of them (or maybe a whole congregation.... I'm almost done with my exams now so I have more free time, so just ask away)
Ow, BTW... is anyone going to make a troll, dwarf, orc beastiary and/or perhaps other humanoid races?
EDIT: Are the overlords allowing the dragons to talk?
Oriana Lark - July 21, 2006 03:41 AM (GMT)
Dragons are just beasts. They do not talk. Members are only allowed to play human characters (not trolls, not full elves, etc). Hence, we do not need write-ups for other races - as they don't exist.
Elwin Markial - July 21, 2006 03:54 AM (GMT)
Ok... no talking dragons then, woot!
What I meant when i was talking about trolls and such were for Rp purposes and these half-human races are neutral and thus NPCs. Well I'm just asking if there will be such anyway, but if it cannot be so, then so be it :D
And sorry, Joscelyn, I'm afraid (while following overlord Oriana's statement) there will be no such specific and significant dragons (like Draco).

Lol, no reason to apologize, really.
I was just asking a question, after all. Oriana says "no," then no talking dragons.
I was just curious, since many, many realms of fantasy portray dragons as long-living, intelligent (sometimes even magic wielding) creatures; I was wondering if Oriana was planning on this site doing the same.
Rhys Horsehand - July 21, 2006 09:44 PM (GMT)
I'm glad you all approve of my entry (well, I'm taking Oriana's silence to equal approval, anyway) so far. Thank you, I'm glad! If anyone has anything to add or improve, feel free to let me know.
If anyone wants to assign me another creature to do a write-up on today, I can have it done by this evening. It's too hot to do anything else!

Wurms
Basics~ Female wurms are usually two to three feet bigger than males. Their blood and spit are certainly more acidic, and they are considered to be the more dangerous in the species.
~ Female wurms lay only five to ten eggs per spawning, and even then only one or two of these mature into fully-grown adults. A wurm can only spawn twice in its life.
Terrestrial- Eighty feet long, with tough shelled armor for camouflage. Hundreds of centipede-like legs. Approximately sixty feet across. Has fifteen rings of sharp teeth inside the mouth; concentric. May or may not have mouth extensions (proboscis, but with much more mobility; can be actually considered extra limbs). Acidic spit can dissolve a maximum of 50x40 feet boulder (females).
- Usually found along the foothills of the Barrier ranges; in the other Dragonland plains. Some strays are found in Marlas plains; how they got there is still unkown. A popular theory is that they journeyed through burrowing.
Staple diet: Meat
Elemental Weakness: Earth and/or Fire
Aquatic or Sea Serpents- Ninety feet long, with scales made of lightweight bone. Gigantic, triangular fish head approximately sixty feet wide. Has two extensions at the top of the head, each one ending in luminous globules to attract prey. Powerful fins and tail for added power in navigating through the depths of the seas. Pectoral fins are said to bring good luck to sailors.
- Found in the deep waters of the Sea of Serpents.
Staple diet: Fish and giant squids
Elemental Weakness: Lightning and/or Ice and/or Earth
Aerial- Smallest kind but deadly nonetheless. Ten feet long, with giant grasshopper like wings for flight. Ugly triangular heads. Streamlined bodies with a mix of tough hide and/or sparse feathers.
- Usually found nesting at the peak of very tall mountains. Abundant in the skies of Dragonland; several reside at the peaks of the Barrier ranges.
Staple Diet: Meat and Cliff-ghasts
Elemental Weakness: Lightning and/or Earth
Fire Wurm- Toughest and biggest of the lot at 100 feet long. Armored with tough shell usually black bespeckled red in color. Very few are said to be able to breathe fire.
- Found in the volcanoes and lava pits of Dragonland.
Staple diet: Dragon eggs and young; meat.
Elemental Weakness: Water and/or Ice
Penril Tanith - July 21, 2006 10:12 PM (GMT)
Cliff-ghasts or Mountain Phantoms or Grey Ghosts
- Said to originate from the angry spirits of mountain climbers/explorers that died during expeditions. They are extremely attracted to blood and raw flesh. They swarm their prey in the tens to hundreds, eating voraciously, leaving not even the bones behind.
- Dead mountain climbers/explorers not given a proper burial will most likely end up as cliff-ghasts. Their spirits wander around until they somehow gain a resemblance of a physical body. This body borders on semi-solidity, mayhap like a form of smog, thus earning their name as Grey Ghosts. Ghasts may resemble what they used to look like in life.
- It is near impossible to exterminate a mob of cliff-ghasts; only full-pledged Slayers can accomplish the task. However a lone cliff-ghast can easily be put to rights with a
BIG fire. After a ghast has been killed, it is in order to leave behind a prayer and offering for the dead, to ensure that the killed ghast will not rise again.
**more to come when I think of it or when people suggest things...

Joscelyn Gedamos - July 22, 2006 07:46 PM (GMT)
It's up to you. I was planning on writing up today, since I don't have to work today and all. However, I'm sure an Overlord's (Admin's) authority on the matter would supercede my own.
I would prefer if I were able to do the write up for the Ice Beasts, but if you're set on doing so yourself, by all means do so; it's not as if you need my permission, or I could stop you in any way if I felt like doing so...
*shrug*

nah maybe we could collaborate on beasties :D
Since i already named a few in my bio, i thought i should be a part of the process, but its not too terribly important to me. If you really want to, knock yourself out. I really dont mind at all. Lemme know if you want any help ^_^

Dragons 101
Introduction to Dragons
From this standpoint, I have made dragons into semi elemental wielding, magical creatures. They are very dangerous and anyone who is entirely not prepared will later find ones way mangled, and inside a sack with different acids melting you away. Thank you. :D
I. General Characteristics
Senses
Dragon eyesight - they only show black and white and have a very watery-convex tunnel vision (try looking through a glass fileld with water). Although dragons are poor at distinguishing shapes, the eyes are mostly composed of rods which in turn give them an acute sensitivity to movement and one of the best night vision during the night.
The auditory sensation for dragons is also well developed. Dragons are capable of hearing sound exceeding 50 kHz.
The olfactory sense of dragons is similar to those of any predatory reptile. Capable of smelling blood under and over water, as well as smelling distinct aromas such as perfumes, to decay, and to pheromones of other animals; the dragon is a master at hunting.
Dragon’s gustatory sense is rather poor; being incapable of tasting anything, dragons has adapted a method in which they use the inner lining of their mouth as well as their tongue to “feel” whatever it is inside their mouths, whether it would be meat, metal, wood, or any other material.
Another poor sensory organ of a typical dragon is its cutaneous sensation; a dragon’s epidermis is very think (not including its scales) and lacks sensory receptors, thus a fully armored dragon would only be able to feel slight change in temperature, pressure and pain. One must be dig his way in towards the dermis in order to inflict maximum damage to a dragon.
II. The Dragon Kingdom
I’ve taken the liberty of basing some physical features from both western and eastern mythology. Dragon eggs are five times larger than ostrich eggs. Dragons can live up to centuries. Every part of a dragon contains strong magical source, thus these dragons can be used for powerful drawing magic or other means (ex: potions, magical items etc). Having such degree in magical property some dragons also become undead (with respect to the rule of being undead) returning as bone dragons and spectral/shadow dragons.
Dragon Type 1: Emerald Sea Serpent (eastern based)
Contrary to its name, these dragons were first sighted by naval fishing ships, which ventured off near the coasts of the Dragonsland. Sailors who spotted some of these sea serpent like beings (sea serpents are silver or whitish in color) that would sometimes show their fins above the water surface - and thus wrongly named as green colored sea serpents. In the slayer archives, the Emerald Sea Serpent is called the Green Leviathan.
These Dragons would measure to 35 to 40 feet long. They prey on deep water fishes and would avoid outside contact. Whenever forced to defend itself, the Emerald Sea Serpent is capable of gushing high pressure water streams across the water, which can destroy an Imperial Battleship in a single shot. Its two short fore limbs are used to cut prey whenever it misses trying to engulf its target by its fangs. Its hind limbs are used for propelling and scraping the waterbed for shellfishes.
Type 2: Lava Drake (Western based)
The lava drake is the most difficult to handle in a straight-forward battle. Like fire itself, the Lava drake is capable of singeing everything in its path. Having the widest flame arc, the lava dragon has an arsenal of large area effect attacks. Its body itself is so hot, that it can heat up air around it – some even capable of burning air around them.
A Lava Drake is around 30 ft long with strong hind legs, with sharp talons. These hind legs are sometimes used to carry boulders or prey or to whatever they fancy.
Type 3: Lightning Dragon (western based)
Lightning Dragons are another rare sight (Once actually). Lightning dragons are violet-blue in color and has twin horns at the back of his head. Being the most agile, having the most powerful wings, capable of blowing winds up to 130 mph and capable of flight up to 100mph.
Lightning Dragons are relatively small ranging from 20ft to 25 ft in length with a wing span of 10-18ft. Unlike the other dragons, the lightning dragon is the only dragon that has an exploding breath attack (comparative to a lightning bolt). The lightning dragons are also capable of changing the electron charges of the sky (especially in clouds) thus making thunder storms and a frequent stormy weather around the north part of the Dragonsland.
Type 4: Terra Behemoth (Eastern based)
This non-flying dragon is a relative to the Emerald Sea dragon, spanning almost 35 ft long, this snake-like dragon hides in the caverns and crevices of Mount Pyre (The volcano in Dragonsland). Colored dirty brown, this dragon disguises perfectly with its surroundings.
Believed to be the most physically powerful dragon, the Terra Behemoth is capable of mowing down and leveling anything in its path either in a straight dash, or a wider slithering motion. Unlike its cousin, the Terra Behemoth has longer and well developed appendages. With the option of slithering like a snake, it can also sprint.
Type 5: Black Dragon (Western Type)
Said to be the strongest of the dragons, these dragons are can size up to 35 ft long and a strong body. They have scales that far exceed that of a Terra Behemoth, and a Breath attack that is said to burn for an entire season. Having a midnight colored flame; some theologists and popular literature depict these dragons as the embodiment of the devil.
These dragons have twin horns and tattered wings (even in birth). On record, only Slayer Master Zruti was the first slayer who encountered and defeated one in battle.
Type 6: Common Dragon (western type)
These are brown colored and small dragons. These are the most abundant of all dragons and can be found just a few kilometers from the boundaries of the Dragonsland. These are the dragons that are usually slain by adventure seekers and slayer apprentices alike.
Sizing about 10-15 ft in length, these are the most socially active breed among the rest. Capable of hunting in groups, having male dominancy fights, and courtship, some of the Slayer scholars believe that dragons may be more intelligent rather than you common brute.
Mythical Dragons in Olencian Religion
There were two dragons mentioned in the doctrines of the holy book one sided among the heavens and the earth.
Kaiser Dragon (western based)
This dragon was said to be the keeper of the earth and man. Having an almost “human” form itself, this dragon was blessed by the gods to protect the lands. There is also a shrine located east from the first hill of the Dragonsland, where it pays patronage and warning to all venturers to the Dragonsland.
Sky Dragon (eastern based)
This flying golden dragon which is said to be the “watcher” of the heavens, blessed by the goddesses to look after their creations, this dragon was thus put on the sky. There is also the festival of the Sky Dragon which happens two cycles after the new season. (two days after a new year).
Comments and any other violent reaction are accepted. Feed me in on anything that needs to be changed :D

A small detail. If they have poor eyesight, wouldnt they have trouble seeing at night? Seeing how its different, why don't you put poor eyesight during the day? Just being detailish. >.<
Elwin Markial - July 24, 2006 04:45 PM (GMT)
It's poor because they can't view things straight try viewing something through a glass filled with water my design fro dragons should have that sort of disability. BUt anyway thanks for pointing it out, I'll go edit it then :D
Valandil Shadowdeath - July 24, 2006 04:53 PM (GMT)
Urk. This is going to sound harsh. It isnt meant to be.
Personally, ive never liked the "Elemental Dragon" stuff at all. Dragons have scales, and breathe fire. 'Nuff said. And of course maigc and what have ye. So looking at your post im a bit predisposed against it.
That being said i do like how you worked them into mythology and religion. Pretty nice. So while i like that, im just not fond of the "elemental bit" but thats just my opinion, and its not really up to me.
Defintely "A+" for effort tho. And please dont take this personally or anything. just my oppinion.
Elwin Markial - July 24, 2006 04:57 PM (GMT)
Oh no, I don't mind at all, we were the ones who volunteered for making the beastiary for different critters of Olencia. And it's all in the overlord's right to give their reactions about our creations.
Well if most of you all agree about scratching the elemental dragons, I have a back up copy about ordinary dragons in accordance to their habitat only (no more elementals :D)
Sevejar Locke - July 24, 2006 05:47 PM (GMT)
It looks to me that Elwin has played a bit tad too much Dungeons and Dragons... Or has read the novels. I know that, since I don't even have an application so far, I am not that really the right person to criticise, but I'll give a review anyway. Sorry. ;)
For starters, Dragons should have a minimal link to their environment. Considering how the Dragonlands are quite similar to a big wasteland, with the heat and all, a sea dragon living remotely close to the place doesn't make that much of a sense to me. Same goes with some of the other "races", like the lightning dragon. Also, the Dragonkin (a proper, in my opinion, name for the Kaiser dragon to go by) are quite farfetched as an idea, considering how, in this "setting", Dragons are big dumb predatory lizards instead of supreme users of magic, know what I mean?
Well, you could always justify their presence, to be honest. Now, however, I come to ask the making of my own, say, adversaries.
The Outsiders.
What are these? Angels and Demons, mostly. (I'm into making specific angels and demons, really, but that's a whole different story). So, what say you? Am I allowed to do so? Or at least try?
Elwin Markial - July 25, 2006 12:07 AM (GMT)
True I did play D&D, and did a bit of extensive research from different mythologies from my mother country (china) and western myth (european). But anyway, that said, I'll try to explain.
From different stories (majority), have these dragons capable of human intellect. Since the Overlords have already decided that there will be nothing of the sort, I reduced their intelligence to that of normal social animals (dolphins, lions). About their habitat, a wasteland located north of a four season country is near impossible. For that to happen, Volcanic ash has to be present (that's why I added a volcano to the setting) and an active amount charged particales (strong enough at least to ward off the winds of winter season, using the volcanic ash as a conduit). Looking at the problem at hand, I decided to add a bit of magical and elemental field to dragons (thus a dragon that has a bit of property of lightning). A friend of mine told me if I add a elemental weilding dragon, I'll just have to add to most of them, so there.
About the two myth dragons, I added them out of creativity. I figured, what would the effect of dragons in religion and social life be? So I added a few "local" legends and folklore to some dragons.
Anyway like I told Overlord, Valandil Shadowdeath, these are merely experimental beings. I have a normal roster of dragons here, if ever you all see fit that elemental dragons doesnt suit Olencia.
Valandil Shadowdeath - July 25, 2006 07:35 PM (GMT)
Ice Beasties*
Ice Drake – Ice Drakes are creatures of scale and ice. Their flesh is made of a cold blue scale, and their eyes are solid balls of ice. Their innards are also various forms of ice, which through the magic they are, give them life. Ice drakes can be up to twenty feet in length, they have four paws, and a thick bulky body. Folded translucent wings usually rest on the younger one’s backs, and a long tail serves all ages as a weapon. Only some Ice Drakes can fly, a fully adult Ice Drake cannot fly until it has molted an eighth time. Drakes only molt when they mate, an event that happens only once every century. And should the Drake not find a mate, it must wait yet another century to have a chance to molt. Ice Drakes have a very potent poison; it drips continuously from their fangs. Their poison eats away at the inside of their victim with frostbite. It is easily curable by magic, but only if the subject is put into a trance, or is treated immediately. More than an hour of active poison and death is unavoidable.
Ice Imps – Commanders of the Ice Horde, these creatures are small, three feet is their average height. The are the primary magic users of the onslaught and their powers are weak compared to that of flesh and blood creatures. Solid see through ice, these little creatures attack one magic user, and overwhelm him or her with sheer number of attacks. Animated constructs, these creatures have a malevolent sense of direction, and are known for their ferocity.
Snow Devils – Snow devils are made either of hardened snow, or complete ice. While giving the semblance of life, these creatures are not amongst the living. The only way to defeat one is to break it into pieces until it poses no threat. They are so cold, that their hardened flesh is as strong as steel. The average Devil stands eight feet tall, and has four arms. Their hands ends in nine fingers, each with a wickedly sharp talon, save for their small thumb on either side of their hand. Snow Devils are capable of prodigious leaps, and usually hunt in packs of 13. Their two legs, are bowed back, like an ostrich, these help fuel their leaps and give them speed. They are capable of out running a horse in almost any condition.
