Title: Elwin Markial Of Calendae
Description: my "chronicle"

Elwin Markial - July 13, 2006 10:05 AM (GMT)
Name: Elwin Markial of Calendae

Sex: Male

Age: 54

Occupation: Visiting Doctor to Olencia and Calandae known commonly as Faus; Slayer Master and Instructor

Status & Rank: A former noble; currently a visiting doctor; and a Slayer.

Roots & Origin: Elwin was a son of an Astrologer and Philosopher to the high court of Calandae, Mioras. Elwin was schooled in early childhood to the liberal arts namely: herbalism, astronomy, anatomy, philosophy and reasoning, politics, mathematics, alchemy, and Theology. In his whole life, Elwin has little encounters with his brothers or sisters, but what he does know is that he is the second child and most likely the most gifted.

His mother, Elfien, was her only source of freedom from his father’s strict tutelage. And the only person that kept him from ever losing his mind from non-stop teachings.

His father never did make Elwin feel like a son until a few months before fall – and after a lot of heavy persuasion from his mother and siblings. It was a solemn spike of thoughts and emotions. That was his twelfth birthday when his family went to the grounds and celebrated for the first time. But all good things always comes to and end, when on one cold morning, when his mother went to wake him up and found nothing more than a dart and a part of an amulet (The same amulet that was given to him for his birthday) left on the bed with an open window.

Appearance: Has a Thinning white hair, and a sharp look in his face. He may be from Calandae, but he inherited most of his features from his human grandfather. And for his old age, he still has the strength of his youth preserved; but it looks contradictory to how wrinkly and thin his physique is. His beady faint brown eyes tell of a tired look without giving away his youthful flair and proud presence whenever he attends to his patients or disciples alike.

His clothes as a slayer is far from what you’d call appropriate, drawn to the image as a lowly traveler with his black cloak, robes and hood – not to mention his ever so thin horse, Chassy.

At times when going to Olencia or Calandae, he would where his hair laid back, with a neatly groomed mustache and beard. When practicing medicine with his patients, he is most of the time seen with a white garb and his small knuckle bag at his side.

In times of Royal affairs, as well as formal gathering with the Ablest, or some of the councils and ministers of the medical society, he is seen with an elaborate décor of red robes, and shimmering apparel, lined with ornaments. One such of his favorite is the Amethyst spider on his chest.

Strengths:
- One of Elwin’s innate trait, is of course, his magic, his proficiency with the arcane arts, coupled with his wide knowledge proves that he can delve deeper (if not deep enough) into the world of sorcery than most Slayers could.

- His vast collection of knowledge is one of the many things that make Elwin one of the finest scholars in the land.

- His cunning can rival that of the greatest of generals of old. Using the finest detail to his disposal, or simply a good eye for detail.

- Elwin has also reached the point where he himself can develop and nurture some other aspects of the arcane arts not bounded by the common elements one can use in his surroundings.

Weaknesses:
- Elwin is slightly tends to lose his temper and gets worse when being annoyed and disturbed. One such instance would be him tending to his horse, or when he is experimenting with a new method of using magic.

- He is stingy when it comes to people who can’t catch up to his lectures as well as tardiness and just plain annoyance.

- As a magic user, he tends to over do some of his spells when drawing out magic, especially in experimental ones. This causes trouble to some of the folk nearby, or his slayer kind.

- Being deprived of parental love, Elwin suffers from insomnia because he keeps on dreaming about his family that was lost when he was taken to be a slayer.

- Just by looking at his frail body, one can already guess that Elwin isn’t a man for swords and arms.

- He Ignores politics and any other political affair, may it be war or a coup d'é•tat.

Magic: Elwin’s proficiency to magic is close, if not even, to an Ablest, being one of Zruti’s apprentices as well as other known scholars and great practitioners to the arcane arts in magic. But mainly, he doesn’t impose the fact how strong his magic is. He’d rather keep to himself and his experiments in his tower or out in the field practicing medicine.

Personality: Elwin is quite stingy when it comes to access to his personal belongings, unless he sees it fit for the user to handle such objects, like his horse or one of his magical items.

Being introverted also comes with his closed up personality. Perhaps not to all people like his peers and superiors. But he generally keeps himself quiet and study in peace, even ignoring the calls of some of his Slayers and even the Ablest himself in some occasions. Despite that, he still answers questions and inquiries when called upon simply or just passing by.

He gets quite disturbed during the night, so some of the people might see him sitting on the roof or out on the yard al alone. During this period is when Elwin is emotionally open and sensitive.

He also has the knack of frightening his patients or disciples to their wits end from time to time out of curiosity. Despite that, he’s straight when handling people and still reserved.

Elwin has thought up some of his own beliefs in accord to the recent activities of the three houses which he was disdainful for, and still sad for not being able to find his family even after he mastered the arcane arts of the Slayers.

History: (continuing from his origins)

I was still asleep even long after the effects of the injected sleeping drought came to pass from his captor’s long travel towards the keep. Upon arrival and after another round of three days of sleep, I finally woke. Seeing first was a daze of the surroundings, I felt heavy and a really bad back pain like as if I was lying down for an eternity. The first thing that I came to notice was a shadowy figure nearby my bed. I watched him stand up and opened the curtains, blinding me.

He told me that I had a gift, a unique ability to draw upon the energies of life itself to do my bidding. Then he offered me a choice that no other slayer would do, he would return me to my home, if I refused his offer; or take upon his offer and study the arcane arts with him. Seeing an opportunity and following my curiosity as what I’ve read about slayers being able to control nature and the very essence of life itself.

And so my training began. I insisted that I be with some of his texts, as well as some of the most ancient of records that I could never have imagined possible to exist. There I gained the knowledge of histories past, as well as the advancement of mankind, and their foolishness, their innate ability to destroy each other and their insolence for self-destruction. Aside from the realization I gained, studied much further under the direct tutelage of my master, Zoltan. In his care, I gained the respect and love for knowledge and the fervor to learn more, not unlike when I was with my father.

From time to time, he would test me and my reasoning, and I would most likely be made to do the hardest of his chores all alone, and sometimes, being the scribe until I have finished rewriting over a thousand of ancient texts and scrolls for preservation. But one of the punishments I hate the most would be to clean up his wares, sometimes a magical item and an artifact would be placed among the trinkets and I would accidentally – Well, I did try to be careful cleaning up – trigger the said item and in the divine suns, could they know what would happen. One of them would make an explosion or two, sometimes a whole swamp would leek out from one of the trinkets and make a mess of the whole hall outside – which I ended up cleaning afterwards.

The next part of my training started with drawing energies from nature. The training was harsh and really boring, not to mention absolutely time consuming. I would spend several hours trying to draw energies from the plant in front of me and try to transfer it towards the other wilting plant (which ended up dying after a few days of empty sessions). – did I mention boring?

After a few more weeks, well truthfully, months, I finally got the hang of it and drawing energies from almost every single thing and just fiddling with it. This of course got to my master and made me do another round of cleaning his vast collection of trinkets (I was even finally able to recognize the trinket to the magical artifact by now). He lectured me even more of the importance and the responsibility of drawing energies carelessly and playing around with potentially harmful energies.

Reading some of the texts at the hall with a book I snitched from the archives. Together with some of the other trainees, I somehow noticed why some of the other trainees shared the same master and I was the only one who was being taught by master Zoltan. I dared not to ask him, he rarely opens up, but I sometimes get the chance to mingle with the other students when my master leaves for his travels and requests some of the other slayer masters to take me in temporarily. And thus I came to know the past Ablest, Zruti. From the stories of my master, master Zruti was indeed a person of long patience but with a lovely fist, so lovely that you’d just die – seriously.

My relationships with the other apprentices were quite homely; it reminded me of home and that fraternal bond that I shared with some of them. One person in particular was Manyuwel, he was an apprentice for master Noir. He came to me just one time and led me against my wishes towards the yard; and there, he knocked me out and let me rest under the morning sun. I enjoyed my time with him after that, and told me that I should appreciate nature even though we control it.

During my twentieth year at the keep, and after more and more fiddling with nature and the many ways on how to manipulate it, I made a break through. I was able to tap into the spiritual core of life’s energy and thus opened another part of magic%2
