Out of Character Rules - Failure to follow these rules will result in expulsion from the site.
  • Respect all members of Olencia, be they new members, veteran members, overlords, etc. Even if the member is not respecting you, that does not give you verification for being disrespectful in return.
  • If such a problem arises with another member, either take it up over the personal messaging system or bring it to the attention of an overlord.
  • Please keep swearing in the Out of Character forums to a minimum. If possible, refrain from using foul language at all.
  • Keep in mind that Olencia is rated PG13 or below, both in character and out of character. In accordance with this, please do not post anything inappropriate. Use your judgement. If you have a question about posting something, it's probably not appropriate.
  • Respect what the overlords declare. If you feel that something is unfair, calmly bring it up with one of them. We are willing to work with you, so long as you are respectful and present your case in an intelligent way.
  • Stay active both in character and out of character. Real life comes first, of course, so absences are most certainly allowed, but try to keep your roleplays going!
  • Post a leave of absence if you are going to be away from the site for more than three days. (More on this later in the rules post.) If you decide to leave the site, please personal message one of the overlords to inform them. It is difficult for us to continue with an inactive character, especially when we are unsure if he/she is returning or not. A simple, "I'm leaving" will do.
  • All members are required to have a signature and an avatar. (More on this later in the rules post.)
  • Enjoy your roleplaying & community experience!

Leave of Absences
If you are going to be gone from the site for more than three days (i.e. you are gone for four days or more), please inform us by posting a leave of absence in the Leave of Absences forum. If you are absent for two weeks or more without posting a Leave of Absence, there is no guarantee that your character will still be in existence. Your account may be deleted.

As to whether or not you can return - we'd love to have you back, but once your character is gone, it is gone. If your character has been killed off, there is no chance of salvaging him/her. If your character has just been missing in action, you must come up with a good reason why this is so. Otherwise, we'd invite you to return as a different character.

Avatars
Every member must have an avatar that is an accurate representation of his/her character. This means that your avatar picture must correspond with your description of your character's physical appearance. Anything above a PG13 rating is not allowed. Nudity is definitely not allowed. If you decide to use the picture of anything non-human (with the exception of those characters that are half-elven), make sure that non-human parts cannot be seen. If your avatar is already employed by another member, you may not also use it.

Please also keep in mind when you search for an avatar that some artists do not like their works being used for avatars. Be sure to ask permission.

Some links to places where avatars can be found are listed below. If you need more help, post in the Support forum.

Signatures
All members are required to have a signature to roleplay. The only thing that is required to be in all members' signatures is a link to his/her character chronicles. A simple link can be used below.
CODE
[url=INSERT URL OF CHRONICLES HERE]Chronicles[/url]

To edit your signature, click on "My Controls" at the top of the page and then "Edit My Signature."

Some members choose to have graphics in their signatures. This is perfectly acceptable, so long as they do not distort the pages and follow the rest of the site rules. Try not to distract from our real purpose too much - roleplaying.

Secondary Characters
Secondary characters are allowed, so long as an overlord is notified and you are able to keep all of your characters active. We, the overlords, must have records of all characters, so please inform us if you decide to create a secondary. If you do such, look for holes in the site to fill them in. (For example, if there are too many female characters, try making a male.) If you are unable to keep all of your characters active, you may be forced to kill some of them off. You must have a separate account and application for all of your characters!

Advertising
Advertising is only allowed in the advertisements forums (which you have to join to be able to see). Sites that you advertise must be a PG13 or lower rating, and we ask that you in turn advertise for us as well. You may bump the thread, but only with need! Be sure to give us information and a link!

In Character Rules
Here at Olencia, we are an advanced roleplaying site. We ask for both quality and quantity. Details are always important. Most roleplays should be at least 350 words, give or take a few, but longer roleplays are always encouraged. Some roleplays may require more than 350 words, as you will find when working on your chronicles. Shorter roleplays are allowed, but only when something needs to be done quickly or there is not much else to say.

We do not require every moment of every character's day to be roleplayed out, but we do expect that characters' actions are plausible. For this reason, it is strongly suggested that if your character travels across Olencia, you actually post a traveling thread, even if no one replies to it but you. Otherwise, you must explain in your post in the new area that your character journeyed across Olencia. Your character cannot simply appear in a place. With that in mind, your character may not be in two places at once. You may roleplay more than one roleplay at once, but keep some sense of chronology for yourself. One roleplay must happen at one time, and the other must happen at a different time. If roleplays are continued to different threads, please provide a link at the end of one roleplay to the beginning of the other, and at the beginning of one roleplay to the end of the other.

You must always stick to your character chronicles. You wrote out that big long outline for a reason, so use it. Your character must have reasons for the way he/she acts, and he/she does have weaknesses! Your character cannot be invincible. We are all mortals! With that in mind, remember that your character can get hurt or become ill from time to time.

You may not control another person's character without his/her permission (or an overlord's permission, in the event that the person has left the site and we need the character for a roleplay). This applies both to major and minor accidents. Give each person a chance to make his/her character react. For example, read the following posts.
QUOTE
Iyelda threw the dagger at Efsoan.  Striking him in the chest, Efsoan let out a girlish scream, and Iyelda laughed at him.

First of all, it is not for Iyelda to determine whether or not Efsoan gets hit. This and other fighting actions must be worked out over personal messages. Efsoan might not let out a girlish scream, that too would be for Efsoan's player to determine. A better example is below.
QUOTE
Iyelda threw the dagger at Efsoan, aiming for his chest.  Expecting him to scream, she laughed at him.

As briefly mentioned above, there are no regulations for fighting or magical duels, except that they must be worked out between participants.

Our roleplays are structured in a basic format. All of these rules apply, listed below.
  • Third person must always be used, except for in thoughts.
  • Past tense is required.
  • Use paragraphs, not one big block of text.
  • Thoughts should be marked in italics.
  • Complete sentences, proper grammar, and correct spelling should be employed. (Oftentimes, a word program can be helpful for this.)
  • The PG13 and under rule always applies!!!

Joining
If you have looked around and you think that Olencia is the site for you, we'd love to have you join! Make sure you have read all the rules and read this post. If you still think that Olencia is right for you, then we'd invite you to register by clicking the link on the top of the page that says "Register." Your username must be your character's name (first AND second.) (You may want to read the Application form for information on names.) Make sure you use a real email address because you will be required to validate your account. Once you register, you must recieve the email to validate your account.

Once your account is validated, you can post an introduction in the Amenities and Introductions forum so other members can greet you. There is no sign up thread or form. You must post an application in the Applications forum. Once an overlord reads through it and approves it, it will be moved into the Character Chronicles forum and your settings will be updated so you are able to roleplay and participate in all site functions.

((In order to be approved, you must also have an avatar and signature that fits with site guidelines. You must have read and understood all the rules.))
