Title: Things I Need Help With

Oriana Lark - June 3, 2007 04:35 AM (GMT)
I am finally working on the Olencia website. I am in need of a summary for the plot of Olencia -- you know, like the introductions you see on other RPGs? Unfortunately, I'm not feeling much of the creative groove tonight. So this is what I have...
QUOTE
The House of Taran grows old.  The Tarans have not left the throne of Olencia since the kingdom’s beginnings ages ago, and the other noble Houses are restless for a change.  For many years now, a political play for power has been taking place behind the scenes.  Mysterious deaths and unexplained illnesses have infiltrated the Taran bloodline, and now, the old weakened king is all that is left… maybe.  The three noble Houses of Ghayth, Marlas, and Calendae ready themselves for the death of King Belenus Celvorian II of Taran, waiting impatiently for one of their own to seize the crown.  A broken man, King Belenus does not see the tangled web he is caught in, and his own sorrows make him wish for death anyway.  The possibility of finding lost heirs to the Taran throne is there – if only someone would seize it.

I was hoping for something better... and longer.

I am also in need of an advertising summary to place on ads. This should be short and kind of catchy (but please not cheesy).

I also need something to put on the introduction page. Right now I have something like this
QUOTE
The House of Taran has reigned too long,

And the Houses of Olencia are restless.
Ghayth, Marlas, and Calendae wait impatiently for the end of their king.
And the game of power has begun.
Long live the king...

This should end with "Long live the king..." because that's the new version's title. :)

If any of you could help with this, that'd be fantasic.

I'm also going to need help building the library, if any of you are interested... :P

Plus, I'll need descriptions for the IC forums.

Yay! Things for me to do!!!

Ummm, I can work with the summaries and see what I come up with...but they probably won't be any better than yours.

Library...what exactly do you mean by a library? But I'll help!

Send me an email, PM...something. I'll be here for 2 more weeks before I disappear.

I'll use all my creative skill.

Just assign me something, keeping in mind I have finals until Wednesday, and that I start Summer Quarter in two weeks.

(I can get a lot done in a week and a half, though!)

I'm a student majoring in a language and minoring in a science/Pre-med, so it would probably be better to sic me on something that required either organization or research as opposed to tons of pure creativity, but I'm game for anything.

Well, I wrote up a summary thing, basically what Ori had, except expanded. The beginning seems cheesy, the ending seems inconclusive (the questions don't work as well as I want them to) but if you like it, I can fudge with it a little more and get it to sound right.

The House of Taran grows old.

Ever since it was established, the kingdom of Olencia has been ruled by the Tarans, and for many years, peace existed between House Taran and the other three Noble Houses - Ghayth, Marlas and Calandae. Though the King was not of their lineage, none of the Great Houses complained, for he ruled with a just hand and a good heart.

But when power stays in the hands of one for too long, discontent grows. So it was with the Olencians.  The Tarans kept their hold on the throne – and the power – of the kingdom of Olencia, passing the title of ‘King’ down from father to son, and the other Noble Houses became angry. They muttered and grumbled amongst themselves, and plotted against House Taran

Mysterious deaths and unexplained illnesses began to infiltrate the House of Taran, diminishing the fertility and vitality of their line.  Young mothers died in childbirth, and few children survived to adulthood.  Those who did married, and started the cycle anew.  House Taran never once suspected that it was due to the machinations of the other Noble Houses.

Now, the last of the Tarans holds the throne, and a political play for power is ensuing.  Each House has their own plans for becoming  the dominating House of Olencia, but all have one common goal in mind: to overthrow House Tara, and the current king, Belenus Celvorian II.

A broken man, King Belenus has lost the joys of ruling a kingdom, and his own sorrows blind him to the tangled web that surrounds him. He is old and weary of the life he leads, and would gladly hand over the kingship, but he is the only surviving member of House Taran left.

Or is he?

In the capital city of Olencia, rumors spread of a lost prince, one of the King’s children abducted as a child by the Slayers, the only population in the kingdom able to use magic. Those rumors have spread to all of the Noble Houses, and each is now intent on finding that lost heir.

Does this heir really exist? And if he does, what will happen to the kingdom of Olencia when he steps up to claim the throne that rightfully belongs to him?

And I could probably shorten this for some sort of ad summary.

I'm totally out of inspiration right now, but hopefully it'll get back soon enough. :look I can probably help with the library.

If you need illustrations or anything that involves maps and backstories you can send the requests on my email. And I'll see what I can do.

I did some rewriting of the front page. Here's the old against mine.

Old
The House of Taran has reigned too long,
And the Houses of Olencia are restless.
Ghayth, Marlas, and Calendae wait impatiently for the end of their king.
And the game of power has begun.
Long live the king...

Mine
It has been many years since the kingdom was created out of necessity,
And the Houses have forgotten their allegiances.
As the power struggle begins,
There are many free agents to be had.
To secure the safety of the kingdom,
The pain of weakness must pass.

Weaknesses are never passed easily.
There are too many disappointments.
While House Taran suffers,
There are those who would see it endure.

An unsteady peace is coming to an end.
The pace of the game has picked up.
We are now all past the opening moves,
And so the game must be played.

The point of this game of treachery and deception?
For some, kill the king
For most, to see the peace and prosperity of the kingdom last.
A cry goes up,
Whether duplicitous or not;
LONG LIVE THE KING!
