Title: Magic And Undead: A Proposal For The Overlords
Description: Also for Penril: fix, complete, delete

I think there needs to be a reason that there are only a few magic users in Olencia. We haven't really given any sense to why magic occurs or what it is bound by. I think these boundaries will help not only clarify magic use for current magic users but also help explain why more magic users cannot be added to the site.

My proposals (to which thought and time have both been given):

1) Olencia has only so much energy. It is constantly recycled into different forms and is transfered to matter. Because of this, magic use is bound in Olencia. Magic users bodies are conduits. Magic is the process of not only changing energy to matter but also changing energy into other types of energy and mutating matter from one type into another. They transfer energy and matter, although the way in which they do it varies from magic user to magic user. Although theoretically the energy and matter shifts through the same process with each magic user, this would go toward explaining Iffalna's ability with plants, Elmira's affinity for healing, Elwin's same affinity for healing, Sezerix's natural magic (see the wurm encounter), and Penril's all around amazingness (i.e. once you master a type it gets easier for you to use others).

2) As the number of Undead increase, the number of possible Slayers decrease. Also, the strength of an average Slayer decrease. This provides the reasoning for new plots involving slayers and undead, icebeasts, cliff-ghasts, and wurms. This also would imply that Undead could be drained by a Slayer if there was some conduit to drain the energy into. At the same time it would make Undead hard to "kill" because the Undead could draw energy to sustain themselves. This means killing an Undead would probably starve a piece of land. It would also require the Slayer to channel the energy into a living thing. This means that not only could a Slayer kill something by draining it but also a Slayer could accidentally "overenergize" it.

3) Olencia is constantly using its own energy. The vast amount of energy in the planet could help explain the sustanence of life on its surface, the creation of magical fiends (holding cells for excess energy), the random assignment of Slayer strength, and the connection of Slayers with all living and most non living things. This would also propose a manifestation of wild magic (perhaps in some of the more exotic locales). Also the Slayers would be required to keep the balance of energy, making them more neutral (fighting for existence) rather than good (improving existence). Perhaps this energy could also be used in summoning theory if summoning later becomes a magic type.

Hmm, it seems to me, that while those reasons are good reasons, we don't really need them. If there are only so many magic users, then there are only so many magic users. When all is said and done, thats one of things that we can get away with just saying, "it happens". The more details, rules of magical physics, and tiny plot twists we put into the foundation of the site, the harder it will be for new members to acclimate to our site.

Just a thought, and not saying yes or no - on my part anyway. Just thinking "out loud" at the moment. I will post more after I ponder it a bit.

I see what you mean. I'm the kind of person who needs a little more definition. And since there are so many types of magic, I felt that the subject needed to be more clearly defined for magic and non-magic users alike. I suppose you're right about the accessibility of the site though.

I can understand that, i like my own rules set into play too. And if this were a book and not an RP site, those rules would be good and necessary...and maybe we can implement them in some way, but like I said...eventually we just have too much information.

Keep up the good ideas though.
