Title: Three Suns?!
Description: Nitpicking time!
Tsuko Theras - July 7, 2006 05:52 PM (GMT)
Well, I
was going to make a thread saying that a planet with three stars would be impossible, but a quick
google (which is
officially a word now, btw) of 'three suns planet' tells me I'm wrong. However, needless to say, having a planet with three suns is a bit... problematic. Depending on how big all three suns are in relation to each other, the planet might be too hot for development. Gravitational tugs from the Suns could send the planet spiraling. Oh, and the seasons would be messed up too! (right now seasons are by the tilt of the Earth towards/away from the Sun... but what season would it be if the rays from one Sun were shining directly on the equator, one on the North pole, and one on the line 34 degrees South?)
So yeah. Sorry to be a party pooper. However, here are some suggestions for sunlike (or perceived to be sunlike) objects that could be used in place of three Suns:
- A particularly bright star (Sirius)
- A particularly important star (Polaris)
- A planet (like Venus, the 'morning star')
- A very odd planet, that rotates in an orbit so that it eclipses the sun every large amount of years
- A comet
Three moons is a bit less problematic, though tides are going to be a bit odd.

Yeah, we weren't really being picky when we wrote all our stuff. I don't think we really NEED three suns, it's just a thing we came up with.
Although, in my defense, this is a fantasy site. Maybe there's some things that are out of the ordinary.

In Star Wars there are two famouse planets that have 2 suns and 1 of those systems has 5+ large temperate planets as well as a huge space station. If science fiction can pull it off, we can too.
Google has always been a work in the english language. Essentially it is like a 1 with 100 zeros behind it? or someother large number

I love you, Tsuko... (We're buddies in real life. ;))
Truth be told, we weren't being all that picky about it when we wrote it. (Or rather, Seyira wrote it, should credit be given. ;)) But as it is a fantasy world, we can make it up.
I suppose they could be particularly bright, important stars - but we have care to call them suns, just becuase it fits with the sun and moon theme.

Nahh, it doesn't really matter. The whole balance thing was made up, so I can fudge it a little. :look

If you care to edit, go for it. If not, then I'm fine with that too. :)

Well, take your pick of the options above (B
My nitpickiness is temporarily at ease.
Seyira Vivienne - July 10, 2006 06:43 PM (GMT)
Nah, I go edit it. They can all be stars, for all I care.

Actually a
Googol is a one with one hundred zeros behind it. Google is just a search engine.
(I can nitpick too! (B )

Yay nitpickers (B
Oh, and wait until you see my Marlas family tree, once I'm done with it... if you think this is being picky and detail-oriented... :D
