Are Temple Guard worth taking? I generally run a fourth gen Slann. I normally give him a guard of 16 Saurus with the immune to psychology spawning, So they don't get auto-broken by fear.
Lately I have lost a few game form them losing combat but 6 points and breaking so the stubborn would be nice but they they could break to fear since you can't give the temple guard spawnings. Also the Temple guard are alot more points each. So do people use these guys?
Imo, temple guard are worth it.
Give them the totem of prophecy and your fear problems are over.
Cost a bit more, though it's worth it imo.
I do, because people always seem to freak about thm being on the table. The fact thay are a special saurus makes people go OMG and try and take them out quickly, giving me oppertunities to flank and smash weaker parts of his army with other units. At least thats what happens in my games.
But, I mean come on, freakin halberds man, a standard (gotta be totem of prophecy), and unmodifiable leadership on 3d6. Your only real issue becomes Terror, and if everything goes to plan, your temple guard shouldnt even be worrying about the one or 2 units with terror on the table.
But yeah, they have their problems. Their still slow as hell, making them easy to hoot to pieces or flank.
But overall I try to take them when I can, if only because I want to freak my opponent out.
I use a unit of Temple Guard 20 strong with my slann and it has done wonders, I originally used a normal unit of saurus warriors like you, and I have had much better results since I switched.
I have also been able to prevent anyone from ever getting a flank charge on them as well
they have held to grail knights, black knights, juggernauts and 2 orc chariots
so yeah they are pretty good to have in my opinion
especially since everyone I play against at least is so worried about the slann, they charge right in and if im lucky i can get my kroxigors in one flank and the stegadon in the other.
I'd go so far as to say Temple Guard are essential if you want your Slann to sit in a unit. The only other satisfactory way to protect him is to use saurus spawned under Quetzl and Tlaxcotl and even then they can be broken.
I never have the rare slot available due to our excellent rare choice and to be honest once you have blinged a saurus unit up that much you may as well have forked out for TG in the first place anyway.
The Totem of Prophecy is pretty essential if your facing an army of fear causers, VC or chaos daemons, not so much ogres, but its still worth considering.
I know TG are overpriced but there really is no better way to protect your Slann, and they are definitely one of the best infantry troops in the game.
