So I'm new to Lizardmen, and WHFB. Used to play 40k, got out of it, and I'm now into Lizardmen now. Who I'll be playing against are Tomb Kings, Vampire Counts, Wood Elves, and Hordes of Chaos - for the most part.

So what would be a decent army against those? (probably 1000-1500 pts to start with)

I'm just diving into the lizardmen army book, but I'll be starting out with the lizardmen starter set at the very least, but I'm not sure what I should put into it from there...

perhaps more of a guiding hand in the direction I should be going?

I've been looking ove some of the 1k lists in here, so I have a bit of an idea, but at the same time, I want to have an army that I can switch up a bit - so if I'm playing 1k points, probably have 1200-1500 available to play with, you know?

If your gonna be playing chaos, kroxigors are a must. S7 attacks really hurt chaos warriors. Also get a JSoD (Jaguar saurus o' doom) the 18" charge will help you get in first against tomb kings chariots, black choaches and the like. Give him a great weapon and he can kill them automatically. Other than that, saurus units are a must (a couple of big ones) get some skink priests for magic defence and quite a few skinks for drawing out any frenzied troops *cough*khorne*cough*

When it comes to an All-Around type army that will be able to challenge all 4 of the armies you've said, I say you go with a pretty much Magic Heavy/Skirmisher Army. If you include Saurus and Kroxigors, you're army will get bogged down by Wood Elves and VC. Plus, you need a Magic Presence. Since it's a small point army, you're less likely to see chariots, so the less likely you need to use a JsoD.

So Perhaps....
5th Gen Slann
1-2 Skink Priests
1 Saurus Hero
2-3 units of Skinks(x10, x12 perferably)
1-2 units of Saurus(x10, x15, x 16 perferably)

and the rest of your army you can spend on additional heroes, more Core Units(Saurus/ and alot more Skinks), Temple Guard for your Slann, and then you can branch out with Cold One Riders, Terradons, Kroxigors, Salamanders and the sort.

WErrrm its ever more likly that he will face chariots have you read the Tomb Kings army book lately? I use 10 in 2000pts (dont ask my opponents hate it)

And getting bogged down by Wood Elves. No way they either break you in the first round or you break them.

currently Ive got a battalion on the way, as well as a few krox's, priest and lord, to start with. Probably going to pick up another battalion, or just a butt-load of skinks. ^.^

I'll probably mainly be fighting the WE, and I know he favors dryads, erm treeants?, and likely a sisters of twilight as well. May end up going to 2k points with it. >_<

Wow, ten chariots? How many points is that? im not very brushed up on the TK army list, but wouldn't that be quite a lot of your army, plus characters and not have too much left for rank-and-file stuff?

Sounds like a good jumping-off point. If your going to be playing against other people right away I might grab the skinks before another batallion to round things off and balance things out, but if your not planning on playing that much before than go for whatever you want.

Sounds like a good choice to me. And buy a few saurus boxes/ another battalion to beef up the saurus units. Buying another batalion will give you 2 units of 24 which is a good size. Also you will have a lot of skinks and lots of saurus cavalry.

400 points mate. Plus characters.. Comes to about 700 points. But it is really really evil (unless a JSoD comes along and wrecks my party)

Yeah, I actually just picked up another box of skinks. Hoping I can make good use of a skink screen so the WE cant just shoot through me

if your playing WE alot you should consider terries. They can ruin there menuverability by blocking marchs and can take down the odd archer unite and lone character.
