Title: Your Ballad

Aaron - August 21, 2006 01:28 AM (GMT)
What song(s) best represent you as a person - either your personality, your ideals, a way of thinking, etc. Songs that you can relate to on another level than "it sounds really cool." Also, feel free to throw out songs that you relate to other posters/people.

"I Don't Wanna Be" by Gavin Degraw speaks to me.

"I'm surrounded by liars everywhere I turn.
I'm surrounded by impostors everywhere I turn.
I'm surrounded by identity crises everywhere I turn.
Am I the only one who's noticed? I can't be the only one who's learned.

I don't wanna be anything other than what I've been trying to be lately.
All I have to do is think of me and I'll have peace of mind.
I'm tired of looking 'round rooms wondering what I gotta do, or who I'm supposed to be.
I don't wanna be anything other than me."

^ Those lyrics ring the truest about how I feel. It seems like so many people are disenguous and don't know what it means to be a good person and what's really important in life. :( And so I don't want to fit in, I'd rather just be me, because I don't like those people anyway. Hope that doesn't sound too shallow or standoffish or something.

Okay, now you guys go!

Cool Top, Aaron :)

Let's see . . .

Ringo Starr has a song called "I'm the Greatest"

;)

seriously though . . . ummm . . . .

'In my Room' by the Beach boys has always been a fav of mine.
It's about how you can escape the world in your room. It's the only place on Earth you are safe.
Safe physically as you are mentally.

'There's a world where I can go
and tell my secrets to
In my room
In this world I lock out
all my worries and my fears
Do my dreaming and my scheming lie awake and pray
Do my crying and my sighing laugh at yesterday
Now it's dark and I'm alone
but I won't be afraid
In my room'

I think 'Stuck with you', By Huey Lewis and the News is another song that is kind of my anthem.
Being 'stuck' with someone isn't such a bad thing, as this song says.

Plus it's such a happy upbeat song. I like to think I'm like that. Always look on the bright side of life, as another song goes.

These are pretty silly songs on the surface. But I dig deep when I hear them. I could write a book about how they make me feel.

There are others, but I'll let someone else have a go-

What an amazing topic! How did I miss this one??

Shandy - I like "In My Room" - I have a different version of it on my Friends CD!

I found it really hard to think of a song to fit me but I have always liked this one;

I Won't Back Down by Tom Petty

Well I won't back down,
No I won't back down
You can stand me up at the gates of hell, but I won't back down
No I'll stand my ground, won't be turned around
And I'll keep this world from dragging me down,
But I stand my ground, and I won't back down

I won't back down (hey baby, there ain't no easy way out)
I won't back down (hey I, stand my ground and I won't back down)

Well I know what's right
I got just one life
In a world that keeps on pushing me around
But I stand my ground, and I won't back down

I wont back down (hey baby, there ain't no easy way out)
I wont back down (hey I, will stand my ground and I won't back down)

Another one for me: The Middle - Jimmy Eat World

"Hey, don't write yourself off yet
It's only in your head you feel left out or looked down on.
Just try your best, try everything you can.
And don't you worry what they tell themselves when you're away.

Hey, you know they're all the same.
You know you're doing better on your own, so don't buy in.
Live right now. And just be yourself.
It doesn't matter if it's good enough for someone else.

Hey, don't write yourself off yet.
It's only in your head you feel left out or looked down on.
Just do your best, do everything you can.
And don't you worry what their bitter hearts are gonna say."

I know the chorus says "little girl," but aside from that this one hits me.

Also, a couple years ago "Welcome to My Life" - Simple Plan was my ballad

"Do you ever feel like breaking down?
Do you ever feel out of place?
Like somehow you just don’t belong
And no one understands you

Do you ever wanna run away?
Do you lock yourself in your room?
With the radio on turned up so loud
That no one hears you screaming

Do you wanna be somebody else?
Are you sick of feeling so left out?
Are you desperate to find something more
Before your life is over?

Are you stuck inside a world you hate?
Are you sick of everyone around?
With the big fake smiles and stupid lies
While deep inside you’re bleeding

No you don’t know what it’s like
When nothing feels all right
You don’t know what it’s like to be like me

To be hurt
To feel lost
To be left out in the dark
To be kicked
When you’re down
To feel like you’ve been pushed around
To be on the edge of breaking down
And no one’s there to save you
No you don’t know what it’s like

Welcome to my life

No one ever lied straight to your face
And no one ever stabbed you in the back
You might think I’m happy
But I’m not gonna be okay!

Everybody always gave you what you wanted
You never had to work it was always there
You don’t know what it’s like
What it’s like!

To be hurt
To feel lost
To be left out in the dark
To be kicked
When you’re down
To feel like you’ve been pushed around
To be on the edge of breaking down
And no one’s there to save you
No you don’t know what it’s like

Welcome to my life"

... Apologies for the uber-long post!

To be honest, I don't really listen to song lyrics. I tend to get the emotion of the song from the music. And when I do listen to the lyrics, I often don't understand them.

...however, I really like "The Experience of Love" by Eric Serra

-----------------------------------
I know you dream a lot
Holding on to lies
And you wait around
For someone to know where you hide
In your dreams, you feel a lot
But you keep it all inside
And you close your eyes
It helps keep you alive

The experience of loving
Won't take all the pain away
Just understanding for the first time
What you feel inside
Love is in your life
-----------------------------------

However, the music is really depressing, so I only listen to it when I'm feeling really down!

this is my current balled dedicated to my wonderful boyfriend ryan thermand! i love you baby!

CHORUS:

Oohh baby do you know what that's worth?
Oohh, heaven is a place on earth.
The say in heaven, love comes first.
We'll make heaven a place on earth.
Oohh, heaven is a place on earth...

When the night falls down,
I wait for you, and you come around.
And the world's alive,
With the sound of kids on the street outside.
When you walk into the room,
You pull me close and we start to move,
And we're spinning with the stars above,
And you lift me up in a wave of love.

CHORUS

When I feel alone,
I reach or you and you bring me home,
When I'm lost at sea,
I hear your vocie, and it carries me.
In this world we're just beginning,
To understand the miracle of living,
Baby I was afraid before,
I'm not afraid, anymore...

CHORUS

Heaven...
Heaven...
Heaven...

In this world we're just beginning,
To understand the miracle of living,
Baby I was afraid before,
I'm not afraid , anymore...

CHORUS

the song thats on my mind right now i went thru my exboyfriend molested me and i mbreaking up with him

this song helps me cope a bit its from degrassi and sung by pms

Lyrics:

You'd never believe the nightmares
You'll never know the pain you caused
You'll never see the scars you left
The things you stole,everything lost

You took my body and tore it in half
You took my childhood,my heart, and my laugh
You took my body, tore it in half
You took my childhood,my heart, and my laugh
You took everything I kept for myself
Now you're gone,I'm not your poor thing,I'm not your poor thing

It happens to other people
You say "how sad",you say "poor thing"
But when it's you it's something else
It's everything

You took my body and tore it in half
You took my childhood,my heart, and my laugh
You took my body, tore it in half
You took my childhood,my heart, and my laugh
You took everything I kept for myself
Now you're gone,I'm not your poor thing,I'm not your poor thing
