Title: Rolls Royce Accidant
Description: Shouldn't Jennifer be dead?
Call Me Chicken - February 8, 2006 06:09 AM (GMT)
It occured to me last time I watched BTTF 3 that if Jennifer is sitting on the passenger side of Marty's vehicle, it is doubtful she would have survived the collision with the Rolls Royce, judging from where Marty's car would have been when the Rolls pulled up. She should therefore be dead (or injured, at least) in 2015, don't you think? Anyone have any theories for why she would still be there in 2015?

Maybe Jennifer wasn't in the car the first time.
He only picked her up in Part 3 because he was going to the DeLorean debris, also he hadn't seen her for a week.
In the original history, Jen was probably studying or something.
Of course, she may have been in the car with him, driving somewhere else, and she just got hurt like Marty.

Yeah, I've wondered about this too. I think in the "original LP 2015" (the history leading up to loser Marty in 2015, etc), the accident would've been when they were coming back from the lake. So yes, she would've been in the truck with him.
(Remember, Oct 27th was a Sunday, so they went camping the night before.)
As for why Jen wasn't injured/killed ( :( ) that we know of -- perhaps it wasn't a direct collision. In other words, he could've had enough time to hit the brakes or swerve slightly before hitting the Rolls Royce.

Could it be that being in a truck meant they were safer when the Rolls hit so managed to survive alive and without any major injuries??

^ yes, that's a big bull bar he has on the front.
And I'd like to add something else, why are we worried Jennifer would survive? How did the man in the rolls royce press charges???? He would be more likely to be in a worse shape!
Call Me Chicken - February 8, 2006 08:09 PM (GMT)
That's a good point! I guess we just assume the driver of the Rolls Royce was okay, since he (or she) survived to press charges. I always figured he pressed charges for the damage done to his car, but it certainly could be for injuries too.

And ofcourse any charges for personal injury would be alot more than those for damage to a car which could help explain why it had such an effect on Marty?

All we know is that Marty was in an automobile accident involving a Rolls Royce, the owner of which pressed charges. For all we know the Rolls could have swerved to avoid Marty's truck and hit a tree. Marty and Jennifer may not have hit anything at all!
Lorraine says:

| That accident caused a chain reaction of events which sent Marty's life straight down the tube. If not for that accident, your father's life would have turned out very different. The man in the Rolls Royce wouldn't have pressed charges, Marty wouldn't have broken his hand and he wouldn't have given up on his music. |
This makes it sound like the hand-breaking incident (whatever that was) happened after the Rolls owner pressed charges!

If in the original history they were at the lake, then Marty and Jen must have hit the rolls royce going the other way, which would better explain why Marty was seriously injured and Jen was ok.

^ Was Needles also going the other way?
Welcome to the board, MuhlFly!! :D :88:

Thanks, Shandy! Nice to be here! I wonder now if neither Marty nor Jennifer were injured during the accident, but Marty fractured his arm when the Rolls Royce guy called him a chicken ;)

:D I think the true question is how did Jennifer remember such an event if the world changes around them. for instance, Dave never realised that Marty didn't recognise he always weres a suit to work or breakfast. Leaving her in the past should have meant that technically that never occured because they went 150yrs before any of those events could have occured based on Biffs actions. :docs2: Wei~rd! huh?

I doubt Jennifer was in the car the first time.
