Title: Favorite Time Period?
Description: What era is your favorite, and why?
Blind Spot - July 16, 2005 11:49 AM (GMT)
I was born in late 1981, so from a mere biological sense, I'd be an 80's child and a 90's teen (I could scrape by as a 2000's teen too, since I was 18 in 2000 and didn't turn 20 till nearly 2002 -- but not a "main 2000's" teen the way someone born in like 1988 or '89 would be).
However, I'm more asking, what era do you most like or identify with?
As many of you know (many times over! :D) the 80's is my favorite decade, peaking in 1984 - the first year I start having memories, though not with clarity until about '86.
I credit this to two reasons: (1) my being such a young child while I discovered all this gives it a real sentimental attachment. Makes me think of innocent good times and my parents, for instance; and (2) it's just all out fun anyway. I believe no matter when I was born I'd like it for that reason.
I also grew up liking alot from the 60's and 70's. I feel equally attached to the Beatles. Also, when I started getting real into movies, many of the ones I liked happened to be comedies from the 70's and 80's.
Though not on the same level, I think the 90's had alot of good TV shows (eg: Full House, Home Improvement) and movies. Some good music, but not that much.
I think people are the most imprinted by the pop culture they first get into. Therefore because I liked the 80's so early, that's why I never really connected with the Grunge era, despite still being a kid at the time (though I like the 90's alot more now than I did then). ;)

I love 2005, that . . . er, I mean, this year rocks!
Things have been getting great ever since the end of 2003.
Every thing has gotton better and more fun and happiness in my life, and the best part is, I haven't even reached the top of this great hill yet, more fun and excitement awaits me.
I used to look back on the past alot. Wishing I was back in High school in the 90s with all my friends, but not anymore. You couldn't pay me enough to give up what I have now and go back there. I'm only looking forward :)
As for music and pulp culture, you can always listen to 80s songs if thats your thing, doesn't matter what time it is :)

I like the 20's and 30's just because everybody looked so nice, all the suits and dresses and stuff. But I wouldn't want to live back then. Now is good.

Medieval ages. Maybe it's all the romanticizing of the age in stories and films, but it seems cool. I could even stand the poverty and disease if need be (not like it's all gone away). Besides it was the last age of "isolation" before more countries started becoming aware of each other through transportation and technology. There is something to be said about the cultural qualities of eras before the "melting pot" of modern times. Culture seems purer and more unique. Now about everything is becoming globalized. Cultures are losing their uniqueness with more interaction and integration with others. Maybe it's not such a bad thing, but it still kind of destroys some of the charm of independent cultures around the world in ages past.
I don't really buy into the modern thinking that everything's better now and that technology solves all problems. Sure, modern life has it's perks, but I don't think past ages are nearly as bad as moderns make them out to be sometimes. Some would even tell you this age is the worst age to live in. At least wars were local back then.

I'm a big fan of the turn-of-the-century victorian era myself. I love all the style and propreity.
Gotta say though, seeing the 90's as they are good and gone now, they sure were a good time B)

I'd have to say that it's a toss-up between the 70s and the 80s - and I have some interest in the 60s hippie movement.

Me too (on both counts). :D
I like that Victorian era (say, 1915-29. From World War 1 to the Depression) since it has "modern" conveinences like electricity and plumming, lol, but it's classic enough to be myserious, too. For example, here in San Jose (it's an older city, founded in the late 18th Century) there's alot of Victorian houses still standing. I always thought it'd be cool to see how those neighborhoods looked like back then.
This'll come as a surprise to alot of people who know me, but lately, I've started to shift my loyalty from the '80s to the '90s (except for the music - '80s music is still the best!). ;)
When they were actually going on, even though I liked quite a few things, it was no big deal because it was the present. But I really miss 'em (even little everyday things I did then) now that they're gone.

I would have to say the '70s.

Basically the 70s and the 80s - and, to some extent, the 60s! :)

The 200's and beyond because all cool stuff was invented that saved people's jobs and made people look cool, plus in all the movies I've seen the future looks pretty cool!!!!!

Definitely the 1990s. I grew up in that decade and most of the pop culture is just awesome. The 1980s are in a pretty close second though.
