Title: Dr. Who
tranked_low-res_scuzzball - July 10, 2005 10:29 AM (GMT)
Has anyone seen Dr. Who? They are currently showing the latest series starring Christopher Eccleston as the ninth Doctor. Who, and Billie Piper as Rose here. I have only had a chance to watch 2 episodes but I am hooked.
Shandy - July 12, 2005 08:52 AM (GMT)
Yes, I have seen many many many Dr Who episodes.
I love Tom Baker the best (He was the one who wore the rainbow scarf before Peter Davidson pulled it apart because he got lost in the TARDIS  )
I do like Peter Davidson too. Lots of good stories with his Doctor.
IT's the longest running sci-fi show ever, so it has to be great!
Madstunts - July 12, 2005 06:10 PM (GMT)
Apparently, for the Tom Baker days, a wardrobe person was given some wool to knit a scarf, and they thought that they had to use *all* the wool, which is why his scarf is about fifteen feet long! Spook!
I really liked Sylvester McCoy - except for the weird story where he met Bertie Bassett! That was way too weird!
:)
LonePineKath - July 12, 2005 07:20 PM (GMT)
Well I have to say that Tom Baker used to be my favourite Dr as he's the one I grew up on (ie ran and hid behing the sofa/my Dad), followed by Peter Davidson, but now Christopher Eccelstone is definitely my favourite. Am I the only one here who thinks hes also the best looking Dr ever too! :D
Like Tranked, I saw the first episode of these new ones and was hooked! Wait until you see the war one, Tranked! Scary with a capital S and just brilliant all through! "Are you my Mummy?" Arghhh!
I didn't know that story about the scarf, Madstunts - excellent!
Shandy - July 12, 2005 07:57 PM (GMT)
Speaking of the scraf, my Nanna is currently knitting my Dad one as we speak. She got the colours just almost perfect!!
It's about half way down. When she is finished I will put it on and take a photo and post it for all of you here :)

What dimension were they from? :)
Tom Baker was slightly before my time, although I think I have vague memories of him.
Peter Davison was a bit too "What ho chaps, anyone for cricket?"
Colin Baker, I don't really remember - wasn't he a bit miserable?
Paul McGann was pretty good - he even regenerated from Sylvester McCoy - but the movie was a bit too glossy and "Jerry Bruckheimer-esqe"
I've missed these latest ones. I don't really watch TV these days, and could never remember when they were on. :(

They wre easy to miss- Saturday nights, 7pm. Most people are out at that time or getting ready so I'm surprised anyone saw them! Me? I have no life atm so I was there, every Saturday, with my feet up, ready to enjoy more adventures! LOL!
(Am I allowed to guess your age, Madstunts? Can I say 24?)
Madstunts - July 13, 2005 09:18 PM (GMT)
You can say whatever you like, my dear! :)
If you must know the truth, I'm actually 30! Eek! I'm even older than you!
However, I went to Uni when I was 23, so all the people I've hung around with since then have been five years younger than me. So that may account for your wildly inaccurate guess! :)
I think Tom Baker ended his stint when I was about five, so I don't really remember him much. In case that's what you're basing your guess on.

Older than me?! (Yes I was basing my theory on your Dr Who knowlege!) I think we need to form our own support group then, LOL!
Most people on here think I'm ancient LOL! I'm twenty nine

I feel I must share with you all my Dr Who claim to fame.
I used to earn a bit of money playing drums, and I once played in a musical called "Something's Afoot" in a little Georgian theatre in Richmond, England. The guy who directed the show, and also owned the theatre, was a bloke named Bill Sellars, who was the same man who directed the Dr Who episode "The Celestial Toymaker", which I believe is a bit of a classic!
Cool, eh?

Lol, one of my friends mums seems to think that he is too! It kind of scares me and my friends though, because he looks like one of our teachers.
I haven't seen any of the other series, and I regret the fact that I have only seen 2 episodes of the latest one. I've been looking around for it on DVD though. Is it even out? Well if it's not then I'm going to try to get it as soon as it does.
Shandy - July 17, 2005 10:31 PM (GMT)
^ Classic Dr Who is out on DVD here in Australia. So I'm sure you can find it somewhere :)
And I really like Rose in the new series. Best assistant ever!!
Move over Sarah Jane Smith ;)
tranked_low-res_scuzzball - July 18, 2005 05:42 AM (GMT)
^Oh, lol. I meant the latest one. Thanks for the help, though. LonePineKath, I missed the war episode! I hate myself for it, apparently it's a 2 part episode so I might be able 2 catch up next episode. :(
LonePineKath - July 18, 2005 08:15 PM (GMT)
They're all out on DVD here in England but I think in Australia you'll have to wait until they've all been shown on TV (unless you have a multiregion player?)

From what I have seen, he doesn't really look 'mad' enough. The best doctors are the ones who look as mad as a fridge, whereas Mr Eccleston just looks like a bloke in a leather jacket - he wouldn't look out of place in your local on a Friday night. Wheras Tom Baker looks out of place anywhere - even in his own clothes! :)
This is, of course, all in my humble opinion.
LonePineKath - July 19, 2005 07:22 PM (GMT)
I'm going to have to disagree! I think that's one of this Doctor's best things! One minute he's standing there, normal bloke, the next, he pulls this insane grin and comes out with the strangest sentences!
He reminds me of the TV H2G2's Ford Prefect. Strangely unnerving but you can't quite put your finger on it!
deloreancrazy - August 6, 2005 12:29 PM (GMT)
I reckon that in some ways Ford is the Doctor... or at least some facets of the character. Since Adams used to write Who back in the day, I reckon we could exchange the characters and no-one would ever notice *writes a post-it "WRITE IT THEN FOOL!"* Lol ;)
I think Eccleston did a clever thing personally, although I'm sad to see his Doctor go. I think that the way he managed to get a huge fanbase for the new series and himself in only 13 episodes is quite ingenious, although we are running out of regenerations for the Doctor... 13 lives is not enough!
Anyone else get the impression from the series that Tennant is almost like Davidson? I know we only have 20 seconds to go by, but thats what I picked up on from his mannerisms at the end of the episode. Only 4 months until the Christmas special so we'll have to see...
And for those with a strange sense of humour, something I mocked up the other day (I apologise its not very good)

I loved the latest series of Doctor Who!! Like many others on here, I saw the first episode and was hooked!! :D
I can remember Slyvester McCoy as the main doctor from my youth and as he was the last one for ages, he's the one who stuck in my head as being the doctor. I was surprised with this series that Christopher Eccleston was only wearing a plain leather jacket and not bright scarfs, ties, etc as I remember other doctors wearing but I guess they were wearing bright colours as they were fashionable when the programmes were made and the doctor is wearing what is more fashionable now.
I think Christopher Eccleston was a great doctor, I love the storys and the effects in the new series and think Billie Tyler made a great assistant and looking forward to seeing her in the next series!!

I agree that Christopher Ecclestone was a great Dr too!
Sadly I think Billie quit too - soon after he did - so she won't be in the next series for long (if I'm right). Can anyone confirm this?
discokev - August 20, 2005 11:34 PM (GMT)
^I thought there were rumours that she quit in the press but in the end didn't it turn out that she didn't or something??
Madstunts - August 21, 2005 12:26 AM (GMT)
Her entry in IMDB says...
"Doctor Who" (2005) TV Series .... Rose Tyler (2005-2006)
...so it looks like she will appear in the new series (possibly only briefly), and that's it.
Apparently she wants to start a singing career
LonePineKath - August 21, 2005 06:31 AM (GMT)
^ Because she wants to?
Thanks for that, btw. I did wonder.
Dave - September 5, 2005 12:47 PM (GMT)
I never use to watch Dr Who i use to always think it sounded so boring and stupid and really old fasioned but i thought one day when the new series started ill give it a watch i was soon hooked to it now i like watching it
staticrhubarb - September 6, 2005 06:50 PM (GMT)
I really loved it! Sad that Chris Eccleston is leaving...nobody seemed to have heard of him at first, but now he's a household name!
I was watching "The Others" the week before the new series started, (which CE is in) and me and my brother kept laughing at him and calling him big nose.
Then we realised when we saw the first episode that it was him! "The Doctors Big Nose!!" - my brother put it. :D
You prob had to be there, really. Anyway...
Good Luck David Tennant! :)
deloreancrazy - September 6, 2005 09:48 PM (GMT)
Doctor Who (Newest Picture)Well its gonna be interesting that he's doing the series with his native Scottish Accent, I'm still going to watch, it looks like its going to be interesting how they're going to go around that!
I can just imagine the exchange;
Rose - "I thought you came from the North?"
The Doctor - "Well, how more North can you get?" :P
Dave - September 7, 2005 03:28 PM (GMT)
Im looking forward for the new series to start, There doing a Dr Who christmas special right? B)

^ right, Kath said it wasn't bad at all.
here's a funny news article! -
Saturday, October 30, 2004- Dr Who Fan Buried In Tardis Coffin.

Dr Who fan Tim Haws makes his final journey — in a coffin shaped like the telly timelord’s TARDIS.
Artist Tim, killed by cancer at 43, had a life-long love of the sci-fi classic, famed for Who’s foes the Daleks.
So when he died, brother-in-law Peter Brooker converted a closet he was making into the time machine casket. - The Sun
Madstunts - January 28, 2006 11:47 AM (GMT)
^
Unfortunately, being buried in a DeLorean would be far more difficult!
LonePineKath - January 31, 2006 09:27 PM (GMT)
^ Not if you rolled it off a very, very high cliff. It'd bury itself!! Sorry... getting a bit sick now! :o
But yes, who else saw the Christmas special? I thought it was very good actually - especially the Christmas tree shaped hole in Rose's bedroom wall! Funny!
As you know, I really liked Christopher Ecclestone as the Doctor but happily I can see the new Doctor might be rather good too! Time will tell but so far so good! :D

Madstunts - February 1, 2006 12:07 AM (GMT)
^ I really enjoyed it. From that one-off I think David Tennant will be a better Doctor. He has the 'slightly kooky' factor that I thought was missing from Chris Ecclestone.
Did you try the Doctor Who game on BBC-i after the program? It was really well done. Very impressed. 3 brownie points.
LonePineKath - February 2, 2006 07:06 PM (GMT)
^ I did and I thought it was very innovative at first but then I must admit I turned it off after the first part it as it was a bit annoying!
discokev - April 15, 2006 07:27 PM (GMT)
It's good to have a new series of Doctor Who on! Just watched the first episode and am liking what I saw!! Liked the way it's tied in with the last series too with Casandra making another appearance.
LonePineKath - April 15, 2006 09:10 PM (GMT)
^ You beat me to it! I was just going to hunt this topic down to post about the new series but I didn't have to hunt too much! Thanks! :D
Sadly I thought this first episode was a total let down!
I did quite like the new Doctor (so it's not like I'm just being grumpy because my favourite Doctor has gone!) but I thought that storyline tonight could have been written by anyone about anything! Where was the wit, the clever twist, the brilliant plot? All I saw was a bunch of people running one way, being chased by another group of people running towards them. Y-a-w-n!
I didn't need to hide behind the settee once! That's just not a real Doctor Who spisode if I'm not scared out of my seat at least once! I'm disappointed!
Bring back the spooky boy in the gas mask!
Madstunts - April 19, 2006 10:21 PM (GMT)
^ I saw it. Thought it was alright. I didn't know who Cassandra was because I've not seen much of the first series - I assumed she was the prophesier of Greek myth.
The main thing that let it down for me was the dreadful special effects. The matte painting of New New York when they were stood on the grassy hill looked rubbish. Coming so early on it kinda ruined the rest for me.
Plus, as you say, it wasn't in the least bit scary. Although, it was an interesting way of having zombies - they're just really really ill people!
LonePineKath - April 22, 2006 07:29 PM (GMT)
Tonight's episode was much, much better. It still wasn't as good as most of the previous series but it did have its moments! I was actually scared at one point this week because when a taxi beeped its horn outside the window while I was watching, I leapt out of my skin! Ha ha!
I think next week's is going to be even better though as it's set in a school so that looks like its going to be great. I love it when it's an everyday situation but with a twist!
discokev - April 22, 2006 11:48 PM (GMT)
Gotta agree Kath, this weeks was very good. Think the strange thing about last weeks was the fact it was hardly ever the Doctor and Rose as there was nearly always someone else in one of their bodies. This weeks was great although I was not amused!!!!
Madstunts - April 23, 2006 12:10 AM (GMT)

I thought this week's was excellent. I loved it! I think they always do best when they pick a fairly normal surrounding and give it a twist. This was certainly the best David Tennant episode so far! It was great to see K9 again and I just loved the bat Headmaster! Oooh scary!
discokev - April 30, 2006 01:34 PM (GMT)
Watched last nights episode this morning while I was nursing my hangover! It was a good one, I liked the way they bought back one of his old assistants and the way she noticed he'd "decorated" the tardis rather than just pretend it was the same set!
LonePineKath - June 24, 2006 09:04 PM (GMT)
I missed last week's (because I was at Butlins! :D ) but I really enjoyed this week's 2012 episode. I thought that was really, really scary and also was scared by the trailer for next week! Ooooooh!
