Title: Albums You're Listening To?
Description: Can be anything you're lately into.

Just thought I'd make a separate thread for this. When you have an album you like, just post it here -- it can be new or old - something you just bought, or maybe rediscovered in your collection, etc. Just anything you're listening to lately.

Here's a few of mine.

Bon Jovi - 7800 Fahrenheit (1985):

Before they broke out with Slippery When Wet, they did two 80s albums which only had minimal success. Overall this has a slightly more 'dark yet heavy' sound than their others did - it's just as good though. :)

"In and Out of Love" was the closest thing to a hit--very energetic hair metal. I also like the more melodic power ballad rocker "Only Lonely". "King of the Mountain," with its fast, almost rap-like singing and guitar riffs, sounds like Billy Squier. "Silent Night" is a very different kind of power ballad--more of an atmospheric and even symphonic backbeat. Really good, though.

Songs toward the end, like "Tokyo Road" and "Hardest Part is the Night" point toward their Slippery when Wet sound.

Hall & Oates - Rock & Soul (1983 compilation):

Overall, this compilation itself is pretty dated (far better ones have come out since) but it's still a fairly good idea of some of their biggest hits up till that time - although some 80s faves like "Did it In a Minute" and "Family Man" were left off.

Early 70's hits were more on the soul and R&B side, like the gentle "Sara Smile" and the bluesy pop of "She's Gone". "Rich Girl" later in the 70's had a more rock tone and sounded more like how they would in the 80's.

Megahits like "Maneater" were great fun and upbeat pop. Same can be said for the more rock-influenced stuff like "Private Eyes" and "You Make my Dreams" (great dancing song too!).

The two new songs for the collection - the rocking dance number "Say it Isn't So" and the harder-edged "Adult Education" also are among their best.

Night Ranger - Midnight Madness (1983):

Treading the line between metal and pop/rock. Many people have probably heard "Sister Christian"--a pop power ballad with electric piano and smooth guitar riffing. There were equally good songs, like the quasi metal opener "You Can Still Rock in America" (great duelling guitars there!).

The last half of the album is the best actually, with the 3 middle paced rockers toward the end. Especially the danceable "Passion Play" and the more poppified beat of "When You Close Your Eyes" (also a hit - sounds like it could've been a Journey or Loverboy song).

U2 - The Joshua Tree (LP)
This is one of U2's better albums, that features some of their biggest hits.

I'm thinking of throwing my ripped off version of the Back to the Future soundtrack on next.

^ I haven't listened to most of the U2 one in ages, but we've owned it since the 80's. Good album, but it's one of those where it starts off with a bang but goes downhill.

The first 3 hits are great--"Where the Streets Have No Name" is one of their heavier, anthem-type songs, "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" is catchy pop/rock all the way, and the more laid back "With or Without You" is a nice ballad - sounds like early alt rock.

Even the 4th song, "Bullet the Blue Sky" is cool if a little less catchy, but the remaning stuff doesn't seem as good. Then again, maybe I should give it another listen since it has been years - my memory could be off. :)

U2 has, only in my honest opinion, never produced a solid album. There has always been one or more song(s) that suck so bad you turn the album off. But overall they are good. and "With or Without you" is my fav on this album, I think its the best song they have ever made.

Eminem - Encore

A particular favourite album of mine at the moment is;
Tom Petty's 1989 album, 'Full Moon Fever'.
I'm nearly always listening to it, IMO it doesn't have a bad track at all!

I couldn't tell you my favourite track on here because I couldn't narrow it down between these finalists;
I Won't Back Down, Runnin' Down a Dream, Yer So Bad, Alright for Now & Zombie Zoo! Oh I just love them all! It just varies day to day as to which is my favourite!

I love the variation on here - Yer So Bad & Zombie Zoo are amusing, Alright For Now is a gorgeous lullaby, Runnin' Down a Dream is a great driving song! There's something for every occassion on here!

If you like Tom Petty then I don't think you can live without this album! 10/10!

As I type, I'm listening to the album "Sweet Liberty" by Cara Dillon - she has a gorgeous voice. It has a kinda "cute" quality to it, which is really nice.

Have a listen here...

My favourite track is track 1: High Tide

Also, she looks like a bit of a looker, but the photographer for the inlay has managed to take all the photos with her staring at the floor, which isn't particularly flattering. It looks like she's lost her keys, or she's falling asleep or something.

[EDIT]

I should mention that this is really really mellow stuff, so if you're into Linkin Park you may not like it. But then I like Linkin Park and I like this as well, so you never know.
:P
