FUTURE GIRL:
All writers have favorite stories -- or stories they like more than others. I can't remember if a topic addressing this issue has ever been established here, but if it has, it's been a while.

Anyway, for those fanfic writers:

What are your three favorite stories that you wrote? (Ranked in order of favoritism). And why do you feel a special place in your heart for it? Was it the experience of telling it? A nifty idea? A message you wanted to get out? Etc etc.

My pics for my fics... and I had to give this a lot of thought since I've written so much over the years....

#1: "No Place Like Home"
Reasoning: This was a fun story to write. I have a weird draw towards alternate/parallel realities -- perhaps it's my love of "what if?" stories -- and in this I got to go completely nuts. The story shows signs of that love -- I knocked out a chapter/week, and it's really really long and almost bloated. But it was such fun to do.

And I'm still proud of my explanation for the malfunction.

#2: "Tremors In Time"
Reasoning: When I wrote this the first time (in 1994, over 2 months) I was in love with this story. Not sure why. I think it was the first "Tannen-free" BTTF tale I ever did. I also have this wicked fascination with disasters, natural or otherwise. And when I did the revisions about 5 years later, I got to tap into my strange interest in nuclear apocalyptic stuff. Depressing as you-know-what, but I still loved writing all this out.

#3: "The Pair O' Docs"
Resoning: Like NPLH, this is a chase kind of story, with some visits in an alt timeline, and a lot of hopping around. I wrote this originally in high school, when I was a senior, and had lots of fun in spite of the 9 months of working on it. When I revised it, I had more fun. This still seems to be one of the most oft mentioned stories of mine by other people.

Huh, I just realized all three of those stories involve alternate realities in some capacity. Wonder what that says about me?

-Kristen

BLIND SPOT:
Nice topic as usual. Well, I'm constantly revising and changing stuff, but at this moment, I would have to say:

1) Old Biff's Adventures:
Since I was 8 years old, I always wondered what that guy did after he stole the time machine from 2015. Just reading subsequent theories from folks like Bruce Gorton (whom speculate he went to 1885 - thus explaining the flashing time circuits) mad me wonder that much more. I was really glad to weave my own idea together on it.

Not only does it span 130 years, but I think it makes Biff a little more human to us (which could be good or bad). I really tried to get inside his head and explain why he was as he was and went on this trip.

On some levels, it is serious and even a little sad. Yet I made myself laugh at my own work (which is rare) in some scenes -- especially he & Buford's conversation.

2) Look Me Up...:
The one where Doc succeeds in going to the original 2010. Yet another unexplored avenue in the movies I've wanted to tackle.

In fanfic circles, the "Twin Pine" timeline seems a bit forgotten (and I suppose I can see why - at the end of Part 1, everything is much better. Marty's family is happier, cooler, he has a truck, etc. Who would want to explore the depressing original time?).

Plus, I made my own predictions about the real 2010 and mixed it with the BTTF world. I can't wait to see how close I am. This also has its mix of seriousness and humor. I also liked being able to throw in some curveballs (such as Lorraine finally kicking the alcohol habit - and divorcing poor George).

3) To Be Written:
I normally wouldn't do this, but even though I'm still writing it, my upcoming fic about the original week in 1955, I think, is something I'll be proud of.

Did I just write all that?

SHANDY:
Nice thread Girl of the future

#1: Funtimes at Chlorine.com
Reasoning: Well, it was fun paying homage to a few message board screen names, and I found it a funny idea that Doc and Marty would go on the internet to look for information. (doesn't seem their style)

#2: I've only written 1
Reasoning: Well, I've been busy with other things, plus I don't want to write a story for the sake of it. It needs to be good.

#3:I haven't even got to 2 yet
Resoning: Well, since the last story got such a great, friendly, warm response from many people here, I will write more

TEKVA:
Three Quarter Time: The Last Dance: Because it incorporates two of my favorite films, Singin' In The Rain and BTTF, and because the characters were so much fun to work with on all levels.

Time of Life: It's always fun to fill in those missing ten years in Doc and Clara's life and this one just seemed to write itself. I can't go back and read most of my stories with much patience, but I can read this one without yawning too much!

Future Tense: Just 'cause it was my first BTTF. It's not the best, but it got the ball rolling so it has my affections.

Niced topic, Kristen!

DOC LATHROP BROWN:
Do they have to be finished?

JAMIE MCFLY:
#1. Brown Family Therapy: Me and my sisters all wrote it together after getting high off lots of sugar and watching part 3. It's my firt fanfic of anykind.

#2. Twisted Editions part 1: CAUSE IT ROCKS!

#3. Twisted Editions part 2: I'm only half way done but it's going pretty good.

These aren't my favorite fics I've ever written I write plenty of other fanfiction that isn't bttf. I write lots of fun little Harry Potter fics.

I wouldn't say it's not the best.

I favored it, but maybe that's just 'cause I've always loved time travel and meeing younger/older versions of the characters we know and love.

P.S. I really was hoping Marty would not believe that guy in '86. I sensed it before it even happened.

TEKVA:
Thanks!

DELOREANCRAZY:
1. The Ripple Effect

Although I still ain't finished it and it is all written up in my head, this story essentially is about Doc and Marty going back to 1885 to stop Buford Tannen from Doc's time in 1896 mucking up history after he stole Doc's train. It has the whole cast, the original De Lorean is involved, and a little visit into the future as a glimpse of what is too come in later fics. Plus it gives Doc and family an extremely good reason to move to the future, rather than an "what the hey" attitude that I have read on more than one occasion. Very dark plot in some places, but the movie had some of that as well (Libyans shooting Doc).

2. Close Encounters.

Doc and Marty have to rescue Doc's kids, who have crashed the De Lorean in 1947 at Roswell. Doc turns the Train into the large spacecraft from Close Encounters of the Third Kind, and Marty blasts that Alien tune from the movie with a rigged up amp to scare of the military! Essentially a fun cartoony adventure!

3. Time Bandits

Clara and Jen are sent to the future and stranded there in an accident with the train, and have to get Jules' help to fix the machine. A rather dark story about a future gone to pot, and add to that a cop who is after Clara and Jen for "assuming" their identities when they use their thumbprints. This came about after a thought on what the "Thumb Bandit" story was about on the BTTF2 newspaper. And no, this- appart from the title, which is a clever mix of the fact they are time travellers and chased as thumb bandits- has no relation to that movie of the same name about those bunch of dwarfs with the map of time!

Hopefully a site with these on will be up in the future so you can read them. Don't worry, I'm not into writing all dark stories (they scare even me), but most fics I have read do have that element in them and they do work well in the story that is being told. But most of my stories are mainly humourous, and sometimes I suprise myself how funny I can actually be when writing some characters like Jules and Verne!

BTW Kristen, "Tremors In Time" scared the beejezus outta me the first time I read it, and still does. Marty finding Nuclear-World Doc! *shudder*

--Simon

OUTATUNE:
What's so scary about Tremors In Time?

#1: They've Got Mail.
Reasoning: It's just a really fun fic. I get kicks out of Marty being freaked out by MJF. No, it's not an actor fic. Not a single actor appears once in it. Just the names... I liked doing all the crossovers, too; I think it's the largest book and movie crossover I've ever done. And the e-mail format thing was kind of experimentative, so...

#2: When Worlds Collide and Go Kaboom.
Reasoning: This was my first attempt at something 'serious'. I can't say I succeeded, looking at the number of people who reviewed saying that they thought it was really funny, but it was a good try nonetheless. I changed the story line at least five times and did an entire revamp the second time... this story's come a long way, basically, but it's not finished yet.

#3: Tales of the Flux Capacitor
Reasoning: I suppose I'm cheating, considering that it's actually 9 stories, but every story was fun in a different way. Admittedly #4-#6 were rather stupid, though. *contemplates kicking them out*

To Jamie McFly: YEAH! THE TWISTED EDITIONS ROCK!

DELOREANCRAZY:
I dunno what is scary about it. Oh wait, Marty finds the decaying rotting corpse of his best friend sitting in a Packard in a Nuked Out Hill Valley! That was a very disturbing mental picture once I read it.

I liked the Tales of the Flux Capacitor btw, and Jamie's right, The Twisted Editions do totally Rock!

HOT FOR DOC:
Hmm, the three favorite fics I wrote:
1. VDC -- my first official "Vampire Doc" story, and the first story I put up on FanFiction.net. It'll always be special to me.
2. Ich Liebe Dich -- One of my sappiest stories, and I would like to think one of my sweetest. Has caused me a lot of grief, but I got a warm glow when I wrote it.
3. Dark Half -- If I can scare myself writing a story, I think it deserves a special place. I'm a total sucker for angst and hurt-comfort.

QUIXOTE:
Considering I've only written two (and another in the works)...

1. Four Things and One (or, Four Things That Didn't Happen to Marty McFly (and One That Did)): If the title doesn't explain it effeciently enough, it's five ficlets - four describing something that could've, but ended up not happening to Marty, and one that did. The working title had "Never" instead of "Didn't", and I thought, "wait. Some of these things ended up happening to Marty, but were prevented, or changed...so who's to say they never happened?" So, I changed it to "Didn't".

2. Untitled - a story that I have only begun to write, much less plan out. I won't explain the plot...I'll keep you waiting! Hahahaha!

3. This would actually be my least favorite fic - I might go as far to say I hate it. "The Kind of Scientist" is it's title, and it has no relevance to the story (save that Doc uses the phrase in a sentence, minus the "The"). It's permanently unfinished. I began writing it when I had the sudden mental image of Biff exerting physical violence on Marty, in the scene at the beginning of BTTF I. It's the most plot hole-ridden fic I've written, and the only reason I haven't deleted it is because I'm lazy and enjoy looking at the reviews.

Edit: *cringe* *deletes similar post* I pressed enter. Silly me. But what I'm really edited for is: gasp! I just checked the reviews for TKOS and realized that Blind Spot reviewed them. I don't know why that makes me giddy.

Another edit: Okay. I reread TKOS and it's not horrible and I don't hate it. I just wish I had considered the plot more, instead of writing based on one vivid idea (which Kristen Sheley warns not to do

BLIND SPOT:
^ Thanks. Yeah, I sort of remember liking the suspense in that one and really wanting to know what happened.

I had no idea you and the writer of that story (with a now familiar name to me on FF.net) were one and the same.

Maybe it's my love of TP timeline fics, since it's the era most writers seem to skip over since it was depressing. That's why I decided to write 'em myself.

QUIXOTE:
I love writing in the TP timeline. The second chapter of Four Things and One is based in that timeline. I don't know why I love it...must be all that Marty angst. Gotta love that.

I'm a familiar name? *swoons*

But, quick, someone post about their own fanfiction before I make this skew too wildly into another topic.

AARON (May 10, 2004):
In countdown format, my favorite three.

3. "Reality Check"
My favorite of the three original universe fics that I wrote - the writing is better than in the first two and I just love how Marty and Doc are forced to make Biff miserable in order to be happy - I also liked giving Biff (somewhat) a human side.

2. "Doc Arrives"
Quite possibly my most well-received fic - about Doc's time spent in 1885 - the only reason it's delegated to the second spot is for the simple reason that writing was sometimes more a chore than I liked it to be. Too much stuff was already dictated to me from the movies, so I wasn't able to go in any direction that I wanted, and I'm still not at all satisfied with the DeLorean's burial. I glossed over it awfully quickly just because I wasn't in the mood (and it's not my style) to write long tedious passages about things that hardly affect the plot - but I knew it had to be there in the story and I couldn't just fast forward through it, so I did my best.

1. "Learn to Fly"
My favorite fic, I had a lot more creative freedom than "Doc Arrives" and I just loved linking Doc to both Marty's confidence and arrogance. Plus, I loved the connection of Doc teaching Marty to stand up for himself, who then went to the past and taught his father to stand up for himself.

Okay, the topic's bumped. Someone else reply.

MIZ CLARA:
heh i read some of those pretty neet.

first: **goes and checks in notebooks** ok first just going to the bank (not awailable on ff.net)
why? well I like the way Doc becomes soooo depressed after ____ death and all. It was very emmotionnal.

second:haunting me! that is one of my scariest fics and it was very.....hmmmm interesting. I liked the fact that some one from the dead came knocking on Doc's door (matter of speaking) and then killed everyone.

third: well its more of a series. It's called view of the past. It's what happened those 10 years that Doc was in the old west (I'm only at Jules birth!!! Must write more)

it's fun cause I can really write anything I want. There are no specific rules like you can't write this cause in the movie it doesn't say and bla bla bla. So I'm free like a bird

BLIND SPOT:
Well, I've decided to revamp/rewrite an essentially "new" fic called When Marty Met Dockie which takes #3's place. Before you ask, yes, it's a play on words of When Harry Met Sally.

Anyway, I'd alreay put this as a favorite 'cause it's one of those stories that -- although not done yet -- is the perfect mix of sentiment and humor, yet it's how I'd personally see the events. I also have never really written for Doc before (I've mostly done stories centered on Marty, George, Lorraine, and various versions of Biff).

It's one of those stories that really feels like it can't wait to be written. I once heard Tekva say that those are the best kind of fanfics to do.

I'm having fun at it too. I'm also trying hard not to be too influenced by other writers' take on Marty & Doc's meeting (well, I am inspired by 'em, but I still want it original).

bttf44 - August 24, 2006 06:20 PM (GMT)
Hmm, I'm still pretty new at writing fan fic, so it's kinda hard for me to decide. I've really enjoyed writing stories for my Marty Wept collection, as I like to explore the more sensitive side to Marty. I also had fun writing my three stories for Marty's Torment. I mean, I personally would love to tickle Marty McFly. Those aside, though, the three novella-legnth stories that I love the best include:

Like Father Like Son: I've really enjoyed writing Marty Junior as the next generation of the Marty that we know and love, and I've also enjoyed writing about Harmony Brown, an original charactor who was Doc's granddaughter and Marty Jr's best friend. I've also been able to explore the feelings of a couple of teens from 2016 who envied their parent's generation, and were actually lucky enough to experience a taste of life as a teen in the '80s. I know a lot of teens today are dissatisfied with their generation, and the form of entertainment that they are expected to like.

Down With Big Brother: When I first heard of Orwell's 1984, that book depressed me. As I've read other fan fic stories of Marty and Doc exploring alternate realities, I had thought to do a crossover story where Doc and Marty visit the reality from Orwell's book, and defeat Big Brother. I've really enjoyed the contrast between the '80s portrayed in Orwell's book, with the actual '80s. It was also my very first fan fic story.

A Tale of Martin McFly: I have had an idea for this story for a long time. I just wasn't sure how to go about writing it. I thought it was so uncanny that Seamus had mentioned having a brother named Martin, who also had issues with being branded a coward. As with Marty Jr, I figured it would be nice to feature a different generation of the Marty that we know and love. This story isn't finished yet, and I do tend to struggle with thinking of what teens back then did for fun. It's basically a variation of, what would Marty McFly be like if he grew up a century earlier.

In both Like Father Like Son and A Tale of Martin McFly, I like writing about the interactions between our Marty and the 'other Marty'.

Jennifer Mcfly - August 24, 2006 09:59 PM (GMT)
my favorite fanfics that ive writen would have to be

jennifers diary
