Title: Just Chatting Vs 'serious' Poster
Description: Is it okay to just come here to gossip?

LonePineKath - January 11, 2005 07:53 PM (GMT)
I was just wondering whether it was okay to visit this site regularly, but while here only visit the chat sections for games/chat/fun?

Now that bttf.com is back up I must admit I'll mainly be using that for main discussions (I'm a creature of habit!) but I would love to continue coming here for the fun atmosphere and for something I can't get at bttf.com - learning more about my fellow board members (who could have known that Mr Eastwood was so passionate about his teeth! :D )

My question is;
Is that okay or is it 'frowned upon' as being a bit cheeky?
I don't want to upset anyone if they think that's not right.
What's the general thought on this?

Let me thank Kath for making this topic, because this very concern is one I wanted to address. I would have brought it up by bumping the topic at BTTF.com, but I figured this wouldn't be a good time to do that, LOL.

First of all, any participation is better than none (and, hey, that's one reason the off-topic sections are here!). :)

In any case, I still would like it if members would contribute to the BTTF section of this board. Every board has different people, so two identical topics at both boards are bound to get some different responses. Maybe not daily, but I think just one or two posts a week wouldn't hurt, especially since we don't have a big "history" of posts like BTTF.com does.

It's very close-knit here, so it's kinda what BTTF.com was to me a year ago -- a place where I'm pretty sure whatever I post (or anyone else posts) will likely be seen by people who are pretty much like a big family, as opposed to how BTTF.com can get. With thousands of members, alot is bound to slip through the cracks (which is understandable, but a little disheartening sometimes, hehe).

Personally, as minor as it sounds, one big gripe I have about the new BTTF.com is that it takes a good 10 seconds between clicks to get somewhere -- and I always have a box popping up that says Do you want to install Macromedia Flash Player? or something to that effect. That gets annoying.

Plus, like I said, I'd been growing unattached to the board anyway, so maybe it's for the better. Plain and simple, it's got a different vibe than it did a year or two ago. 2-3 years ago, there were alot of insightful and intelligent posts. 1 year ago, it was like a big party, but with great posts too. Now it just seems kinda "blah" with alot of people I don't even recognize, and who probably don't know many of us.

(Besides, we're getting DeLorean in the Mine questions again, LOL! The quality of topics has been going down for a good 6 months. :( )

I don't think my time there was wasted. In my tenure, I became a much better writer, gave and received alot of great insight about the Trilogy, met alot of friends (many of whom may be reading this! :) ), and overall had a nice near-2 years.

I'll probably still post once a week or so, but my "hangout" days are over, I'm afraid. I have AIM, the chatroom, and PM's to chat with buddies; this board for BTTF, and my fanfics.

Just my $0.02. :)

Absolutely.

I agree with you that it's better to discuss BTTF at bttf.com, as more people see it and you can usually get more responses/discussion there. I think that a lot of members on this board share the same view.

What I like about this board, though, is that it's a lot more relaxed. We trust our members more to not abuse the fact that we don't censor swear words in posts and basically, if people are having fun in a thread even if it's a bit off-topic, we don't close it even though bttf.com most likely would. Also, you get to pick whatever avatar you wish as long as it's not offensive.

When I come here, I mostly participate in our BTTF Trivia, Polls, and Games forum as well as the general forums. It allows us as BTTF fans to get to know each other and have fun with each other, something that Stephen at bttf.com couldn't care less about, which is sad, IMO.

On a slightly different note, I'm really glad to see you frequenting this board more, Kath. Always nice to see a familiar face. :happydoc:

Now if you think that is bad, you should have been here when I was stalking someone named bellybutton, before someone here turned me in. Could you guess what avatar I had? :D

Now I share the same views as the people, I mean buddies, above. I mean look my first part of my post was a joke to one of my bttf "family memebers". Here at this board I have the oppurtinity to just do whatever comes to mind, now don't get me started on that.

I love coming to this board to post in all those general topics and learn more about you guys, which I can't do to much on BTTF.com, especially now when I can't find anything. I really feel like close with all you guys and even know you better then I know some of my friends in school.

While BTTF is being taken down by the newbies and unfamiliar folks and the horrible repeating-repeating-repeating-repeati- topics, and I can't find where I left all with everything everywhere. I am so overwhelmed there, while I am so relaxed here.

I love coming to this board even if I just post mostly in the "fun" chats and of course reading and viewing all the other topics, (especially since I am a moderator), and enjoying myself with my family. B)

While I didn't really answer anyone's question, you see on this board we don't have too because we all know eachother and know the answer without even asking. ;)

Thanks! :marty:
My only regret is that I didn't start coming here sooner.

I agree with all the comments. :jen1:

That sums it up perfectly. :D

This I have to agree with you on. Iwas just looking at BTTF.com (not realiseing it had a facelift) and I was thinking 'how crap is this, the old design was much better. The buttons are cool, but the way they have layed out the messageboard is shocking'.
Now I really do feel privilaged to be one a member of BTTF Online, and especially privilaged to be one of the first 100 members.
