BTW, first off, welcome to the board, Amanda.:D
Anyway, most of you guys know I've been into music since I was pretty little. Despite more or less having the same tastes, I admit I do have "phases" of being really into a certain song a teeny bit above the others.
Right now, I've been repeating "Kiss on My List" from Hall & Oates alot, as well as "Two Sides of Love" from Sammy Hagar. (Yeah, I know I'm kinda outnumbered on 80's rock here between you two, LOL.;) )

Metallica - Seek and Destroy

This changes all the time. Next week, expect to see new ones, but:
"Someday Someway" Marshall Crenshaw -- If not for the new wave production, this happy pop/rock song could be mistaken for a lost hit out of 1960. The 80's/oldies combo makes it unique and very catchy.
"Hot Night" Laura Branigan (R.I.P. :( ) -- A non-hit from Ghostbusters (amazingly). Lewis had it on when he got locked out of his apartment (again, LOL) at the party. I'd call this a pop/dance version of the arena rock sound.
"One Step Away" Ratt -- Mid tempo semi love/rock song from the LA hair metal band. Should've been as big as "Round and Round."
"You Got Lucky" Tom Petty -- I know this synth rocker is an old favorite, but I've been listening to it alot lately. Also, the DeLorean-type futuristic vehicle was in the video.:)
"Radar Love" Golden Earring -- Mid 70's pop/hard rock cruisin' classic which anybody who doesn't live under a rock has probably heard. I bet Marty liked it too.
Aaron - October 30, 2004 01:00 AM (GMT)
I'm liking "Pain" by Jimmy Eat World and "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" by Green Day lately.

Thanks for introducing me to "Someday, Someway" Blind Spot. I haven't heard it before you showed it to me and its a cool song. I also like the "you got lucky" song and the video reminds me a lot of BTTF.
Two songs I like alot now:
"number of the beast" - Iron Maiden
It's halloween time and this is a cool song even though it doesn't have the most family friendly subject material. I like the solo too.
"American Hair Band" - Tuff
This is a newer song by an older hair band (Tuff's major label debut was 1991 with the MTV hit "I hate kissing you goodbye", one of the few early 90s hits before grunge exploded onto the mainstream as nirvana also debuted in september that month) and they have since gone on to record material on independent labels. This song is from 2001/2002 and is pretty cool as it references almost everyone who was in 80s rock and lots of 80s rock songs. It's a good hard rockin' song (although a little harder/angrier then most stuff from the late 80s and early 90s). I wish we had more bands like these on major labels. It is also the parody of the Kid Rock song "American Bad Ass".
BeanieRobert2001 - November 12, 2004 02:35 PM (GMT)
Lil' Wayne-Go DJ
Outkast-Ghettomusick (yes, thats how they spell it)
NORE-Oye Mi Canto
Eminem-Mosh
Eminem-Just Lose It

More Than Love- I don't know the name of the band who sings it :(
Blind Spot - December 24, 2004 08:11 AM (GMT)
BUMP
Chris & I were again discussing Kix recently (a more heavy, AC/DC type glam/hair pop-metal band). I think their best album is 1991's HOT WIRE even though it pretty much went unnoticed. Sadly, they seemed to have pulled it together to make a perfect album, but it was too late and got killed by the grunge movement.:(
Anyway, unlike most hair metal albums of the same period, every song sounds unique in some way.
There's AC/DC styled metal (Bump the La La, Rock & Roll Overdose, Liar Liar-Pants on Fire), mid-tempo pop/hard rock (Same Jane, Girl Money, Luv A Holic), some bluesy stuff (Heebee Jeebee Crush) and even a nice power ballad (Tear Down the Walls).
A few other songs I've been listening to lately alot:
"Oh Sherrie" Steve Perry: Half upbeat 80's pop/arena rock song which sounds alot like Journey's material of the time (say, a cross between "Don't Stop Believin" and "Open Arms").
"Double Vision" Foreigner: I tend to prefer their 80's songs, but this was one of their best earlier ones, in 1977 or so. Classic rock with a medium, catchy beat which almost sounds like a precursor to later hits like "Urgent" and "I Wanna Know What Love is".
"Young Dumb & Ugly" Weird Al: A cross between 80's hard rock & grunge sound (!) where Al does a hilarious high-pitched parody voice narrating Beavis & Butthead-type dumb young guys in the mid 90's culture.
P.S. Looking at my last list of songs, the more I listen to a certain song, I'll hear it slightly different. For instance, Laura Branigan's "Hot Night" now sounds to me alot like Pat Benatar's "Heartbreaker" with the vocals and pacing (in fact, that's probably who I'd think it was if I didn't know).
Also, Ratt's "One Step Away" now sounds closer to arena rock then hair metal, but it's one of their best songs, so I'm not complainin'.:)

Welcome back, Amanda. :)
Cool, now that this is up again, I might as well do a few others, since I haven't posted on this in months (make fun of my choices if you want. I'm an old man at heart with my music tastes, LOL!):
"Centerfold" J. Geils Band -- Frat rock/arena rock styled pop song from 1982. I love the "na na na na na na" part especially.
"Heart & Soul" Huey -- Long-time favorite, but I've been listening to it alot again. I love the slight 80's hard rock slant here mixed with typical Huey-ish pop.
"That's What Friends are For" Dionne Warwick (I think?) -- Harmonica-based sappy love song, even for its time (1985/86) but I like it.
"Don't Bring Me Down" ELO -- Hard pop song from the end of the 70's. Reminds me of Rocky Horror Picture Show and "Time Warp" for some reason.
"Lucky Star" Madonna -- I've always liked her 1983-86 stuff, (even if I'm not that big of a fan in general). I call those her "cutesy" days, hehe! ;) This is a catchy dance/keyboard pop track.
"Give Me All Your Love Tonight" Whitesnake -- Somewhat 'forgotten' high-energy hair metal hit from their 1987 self-titled album.

These are my songs (no order):
Boston - More Than a Feeling
Boston - Peace of Mind
Boston - Foreplay/Longtime
Maynard Ferguson - Birdland
Maynard Ferguson - MacArthur Park
Maynard Ferguson - Gospel John
Boston is one of the most awesome Rock bands of all time (their first 3 albums [1976, 1978, 1986] that is), and Maynard Ferguson is a Jazz artist that I like quite a bit.
I do like such artists as Tom Petty, Bryan Adams, and Eddie Money, but they aren't my favorite.
I guess no one here likes Boston except me... :martyjr:

Heh, not true at all, mate. :)
While I don't think they ever equalled the success of their 1976 self-titled album, all three of their main CD's had some cool songs. "Amanda" was their 80's hit--a classic rock power ballad of sorts. "Peace of Mind" is another upbeat rocker from their debut - great track! "Party" and "Used to Bad News" are good too.
P.S. I like classic rock quite a bit too. Say 1965 to 1995 if you really wanna push it. Even though they were already 20 years old, I grew up on the Stones, Doobie Brothers, Beatles and the like, as well as "new" stuff (80's/early 90's).
Doctor_McFly89 - February 24, 2005 12:42 AM (GMT)
"Gimme Shelter" by The Rolling Stones.

Its hard to choose a favorite song when you've already listened to 130 CDs.
Mine right now would be:
The Show Goes On - Bruce Hornsby & the Range
Set Me in Motion - Bruce Hornsby & the Range
Whoomp! (There It Is) - Tag Team
Born To Be Wild - Steppenwolf
There's more favorites but I'm not going to list them all.

^ I'm somewhat familiar with Bruce Hornsby and those two songs.
I'm not that big of an overall fan, but I've always liked "Every Little Kiss" and "Mandolin Rain" from his The Way it is album -- 80's pop/rock with a unique sound I can't quite pin down, but it's cool.
Of course, "Born to be Wild" is the first 'heavy metal' song (well, at least for 1968 it sure was metal!) so it's a classic for that reason alone.

I heard of Mandolin Rain & the Way It Is. I might buy The Way it is album sometime. Set Me in Motion & The Show Goes On are on the Backdraft (Milan) soundtrack.
