http://garydavidgoldberg.com/blog/2008/02/...keaton_d_1.htmlI think Gary David Goldberg does present some very good points. If we take that one episode of Family Ties as canon, then Alex was still a Republican by 2000. Since then, though, I think he would be questioning many of Bush's policies.
Also, we know he really wasn't a religious person - even though he did believe in God. I think he would strongly support evolution, and oppose the push for teaching Intelligent Design in schools. I think he would be pro-choice, as he would want the government to stay out of the personal lives of its citizens.
I don't think he would ever really be liberal, but I would like to think he'd eventually loosen his stance on gender roles. I was a bit bothered by the idea that MJF would think APK was just getting out of prison. To be fair, though, I think he kind of has mixed feelings about Alex. He briefly brought up Alex P Keaton in a few speeches for stem cell research. He basically mentioned that Alex wouild want him wearing a tie, but that Alex would also support his cause.
In the end, though, I think Alex has always done the right thing. He can sometimes seem a bit obnoxious, but I think he genuinely cares about people. I think part of why Michael may think he would've been in prison, is because Alex's love of money might get him in trouble. Still, I remember that episode from Part One, with his Uncle Ned. He was supportive of his uncle, but he also disapproived of his uncle's actions.
