Title: The Truman Show
Description: sounds like an interesting movie

I haven't watched this movie, yet - but I'm going to. It's not a "trapped in TV land" movie, like Last Action Hero or Pleasantville - but it's about a man who grew up in a similated reality called Seahaven. He's the only resident to be unaware that his life if the subject of a reality TV show viewed by millions of people.
From reading articles on it, I have a bunch of questions to ask about what goes on in Seahaven - and I'll have to see how many of the questions the movie answers:
1. How do they recruit "extras"? Do they look for people to fill in certain vital roles (teachers, doctors, mailmen, waitresses, salesclerks, cashiers, radio disc jockeys)?
2. Do they bribe people to live in Seahaven? Such as, maybe offering them a place to live at an extremely low price (or even for free)?
3. Has anyone (other than Truman) been born in Seahaven?
4. When and how are children made aware to the reality of Seahaven?
It does sound like an interesting premise.

It's been forever since I have seen this movie.

You seen that movie? What did you think of it?
It does give you a lot to think about. I don't think anything like this would be allowed to exist in real life. I think many would consider that a violation of human rights. While Truman wasn't being harmed physically, except for towards the end - there was certainly a lot of psychological harm being done to him.
All the extras were probably allowed plenty of freedom to live their lives as they pleased, as long as followed rules of how to interact with Truman. They probably picked people with actual MDs to play the doctors - and people who were chosen to be teachers had to have a teaching degree.
I'm guessing the mailman (or mailmen, if there's more than one) would be responsible for sending out and taking in mail - and that any mail that was addressed to Truman would have to be inspected by Christof and the crew.
It's an interesting concept to consider, but I don't think it was right for everyone to deceive Truman as they did.

I just thought of another query. What about during election times? For all intents and purposes, Truman was still an American citizen - so he would have his rights to partake in the US elections. Maybe they allowed the ballot takers to enter the dome on Election Day. I hope they, at least, respected those rights of Truman as a human being.

I don't even remember what I thought of the movie.

I hope to watch it later this week. I'm actually interested in movies more along the vein of Last Action Hero and Pleasantville (which includes crossovers between the "fictional universe" and the "real world"), but this still sounds like it would be an interesting premise. Wouldn't be something I'd actually want to see happen, though.
Of course, in my stories, there's generally a sense that the "fictional worlds" are just as real as the "real world."

Have you seen it yet then?
I cant believe you have not seen it already, its such an old film, although it is a good film. I really enjoyed it, had alot of sad moments. Even though the creators of SeaHaven were a bit sadistic, pretending to kill his Dad, what was all that about, all they were interested in was the ratings, where as to him, it was real.

Yeah, I did see it. I felt so bad for Truman. That could do a lot of psychological damage to a person. I mean, everyone who ever cared about and was close to was so fake - except for Sylvia. Even though his father also seemed to care about him.

Well, yeh. Cause he basically fathered him so he must have some sort of connection even though it wasnt biological, that connection that foster parents get for their adopted children. I'm gonna have to watch it again to refresh my memory, been a while since I last saw it.
