In other words, was there ever a timeline with an unsuccessful McFly family living in 1985 - and, yet, the ravine is still called Eastwood Ravine?
This is something to really think about. Personally, I'm leaning towards "no, it never existed".
However, this then leads to some other quandries:
1. What happens when Eastwood Ravine Doc goes to 2015? Does he see the same thing we saw in Part Two, but just with the ravine being called Eastwood Ravine? Or does he somehow end up being transported to the Clayton Ravine/Loser Marty timeline?
2. Then there would also be the question of if the Eastwood Ravine/Hell Valley timeline ever existed.
There's just so much to think about.
I don't think the timeline ever existed.
Yeah, I don't think so, either! Here ius what I think might've happened.
After Lone Pine/Eastwood Doc took off for 2015 - the self-preservation went into effect, and he turned into Lone Pine/Clayton Doc entering Lone Pine/Clayton 2015. I mean, let's face it, the events leading up to Eastwood Ravine wouldn't even be possible - if not for events of Parts One and Two.
Then, if Doc actually did end up in Lone Pine/Eastwood/Loser Marty 2015, we'd have the problem of Old Biff remembering receiving the almanac from his younger self in 1955. It could make the events of 1955 even tougher.
Then again, I don't think there ever was a Marty in that week of 1955 who remembered the Lone Pine timeline. I think, after LP Marty went back to 1955, he turned into TP Marty. Then, shortly after returning to 1985, he soon remembers both timelines.
I mean, there are so many ways you can go with the whole memory thing. I think I myself did ask, in the past, what happened to Lone Pine Marty. The question is probably moot. I think Twin Pines Marty and Lone Pine Marty simple end up merging wioth each other. He would have Lone Pine Marty's physical features (any possible scars - or, heaven forbid, tattoos) - and I think he'd remember both timeline. He would never remember the Hell Valley timeline, since he never was Hell Valley Marty - nor was he directly responsible for the creation of the timeline.
So when does Doc remember his past of the final timeline shown in the trilogy? I used to say it wasn't until after he and his family returned to 1985 - but I think, more likely, it would be after Marty left 1885 (to return to 1985).
So, does Gravestone Doc (the Doc who saw his own gravestone in 1955) ever become Eastwood Ravine Doc? This is a tough one. I already wrote a story for the Gravestone Universe, which played an important role in The Way We Could've Been. I'll have to think of this one a little more. All I know is that, since Marty himself wasn't directly responsible for the creation of that timeline, he can't ever have been the Marty of that timeline.
Man, now I'm getting all confused.
