Title: Marty Mcfly Vs Alex P Keaton
Description: Okay, here's an idea...

Let's think of things that Alex P Keaton has said, that we would never hear Marty McFly say - and vice versa. We could throw in other Michael J Fox characters, as well.

Marty would never say "Milton Freedman is my favorite economist."

Can you explain? I don't know anything about Milton Freedman - or do you simply mean Marty would be uninterested in economics?

Alex would never say, "What do I become, like a rich rock star or something?"

Of course, he would like the "rich" part of it - but he's really not into rock music. Alex and Marty are pretty different in that respect.

I thought that's what you might've meant, but I wasn't sure.

Let's see:

Alex would also never say, "Nobody calls me chicken!"

He's not the type of person to really care about what other people think of him.

Here's something Alex said, that I can imagine Marty also saying:

Look, *name*, just trust your instincts, okay? You can't go wrong.

This part, though, I'm not so sure of:

On second thought, ignore your instincts.

needles1987 - November 14, 2007 07:15 PM (GMT)
I can't see Alex saying "Holy Shit!!"

bttf44 - November 14, 2007 07:45 PM (GMT)
Yeah, Alex doesn't ever swear - but, then again, people can't exactly swear on a family show. Still, knowing how conservative Alex is, I can see where he wouldn't be the type of person to swear.

I also can't imagine Alex saying, "Whoa-ho! Rock and roll!"

What about "Get outta town"? Do you think Alex would ever say that? BTW, if you listen very carefully, 2015 Marty does say that in Part Two. It's just before the Jennifers faint.

Alex has said "hell", but to some people, it doesn't count as a swear word.

Right, and then the word "damn" was used, as well - which is disputable as to whether it's a real swear word. The word "crap" is generally not considered a swear word - and, in fact, many people use that as a better alternative to "shit". Still, there are a few people who do consider that to be a swear.

People have considered it to be a swear mainly because it was a replacement word for it.

I know you mentioned watching Recess. Do you remember that episode where the gang were busted for using the word "whomps"? The thing is, even if the gang did use a swear word, the school certainly overreacted. The appropriate thing to do is to call up the kids' parents, and have the kids go home for the rest of the day. They didn't have to turn it into such a huge federal case as they did.

I remember that episode.

Do you think they went too extreme?

Also, can you imagine Alex ever saying "get outta town"?

Yeah, I guess I can.
