While I wouldn't argue about some of the more uptight residents of Hill Valley (including Mr. Strickland and Biff Tannen) having a rather negative opinion of Doc, I would like to think that he did have other friendly acquaintences. I would like to think of Hill Valley as being a nice town, and that not every other person in town besides Marty and Jennifer think negatively of Doc.

Likewise, with George, I would like to think that he did have friendly acquaintences - even if he may not have had any close friends. Although, personally, I did give him two close friends - including Lester the Wallet Guy. I would hate to think that every single kid in school was mean to George.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I like to think that Doc had other friends.
