Title: Would You Respond The Same Way Clara Did?
Description: If one told you they had a time machine

Okay, I assume that we're all fans of Back to the Future - or else you wouldn't be posting on this board! Okay, let's say you meet someone - and you become close to this person, romantically or otherwise. Now, one day, this person comes up to you and tells you that they have to leave. Now, they go on to explain that they invented a time machine, and they have to go back to the time they came from. How would you respond?
Granted, I would be very skeptical - but I wouldn't 100% disbelieve. What I would maybe do is ask if the other person could show me their time machine? Then I would maybe ask if I could take a little trip in the time machine. And, depending on what year the other person came from, and how close to the other person I am, I might ask the other person to take me back with them.

I wouldn't 100% not believe. I'd be open-minded about it and ask if I could use it.

Yeah, same here! Granted, I would be pretty skeptical - but I would be open-minded enough to give the person a chance to prove to me if he or she hadf a time machine. Yeah, I would also ask if I could use it - even if it's just to travel a few days forward.

Mhh, I felt bad for Doc when Clara didn't believe him, but I honestly don't know what I'd exactly do. I guess I'd ask the person to show me the time machine, trying to believe him but if he refuses I'd doubt... The thing is, why would a person make up something like that if he wants to break up? It's utterly offensive, so I'd do my best to believe him.

Well it would be one thing to tell a loved one that you are a time traveller from the future and have a time machine, but its different when Doc is basically saying that he has to leave and will never see her again. Perhaps if Doc tried to tell Clara he was a time traveller first and showed her the Delorean she would have reacted differently. Of course then there wouldn't be as much tension at the end of the movie.

I always wished the trilogy did end with Doc and Clara going back to 1985 with Marty, though. While both The Ride and The Animated Series do have Doc back in the late 20th Century, neither is really considered canon with the trilogy. I'd like to think that Doc does eventually move his family back to 1985, though.

Its a nice thought that he may settle down in one century, but knowing Doc he would not want to, and I were Jules or Verne I would want the same, just imagine growing up through-out history, granted they don't have a home as such, but I assume that they were born in 1885 so that would be a 'base' for them, not 1985. As for the 'breakup line', at first I would be hurt that they would play oin such an idea, but if they agreed to show me the machine and let me travel in time, then I would believe but not fully understand the reasons why they must travel back to their time zone. I'd be like: why must you go back, why can you not stay here. Also if I was close to them I would say: take me back with you. But that would still be very hard to do, leaving everything you know and everyone you love. It would be a really hard thing to do.

I guess I'm an '80s kid myself - I was born in 1977 - so I would prefer the idea of Jules and Verne growing up on '80s culture (rock and roll, video games, cartoons and TV shows, movies, etc).
Then there's also the fact that I don't like the idea of Doc and Marty being separated. I mean, poor Marty already almost lost his friend, twice.
Then, on a moe pragmatic note, all this journeying through time can cause a huge strain on the space-time continuum. I know, there's the common on argument of "isn't the history after 1985 just as important" - but think of it this way, though. The time machine was invented in 1985, and that's where the starting line is. Then there's also the fact that Doc tells Marty and Jennifer that their future "hasn't yet been written". Now, if Marty Jr or Marlene somehow ended up back in time - then the situation would probably be a little different.
Of course, in my ficverse - the Trilogy and Haven Universes - Marty Jr ends up with Hamony Brown, Jules' daughter. I really like the idea of Doc's and Marty's offspring tying the knot somewhere along the way.
